I have to say I totally disagree with the other review about the hotel cactus. Me and my partner have been to this hotel twice and we found it was brilliant.
The hotel has an official rating of a 2 star accommodation so its not 1st class luxury but the rooms are clean, the staff are really friendly and even remembered our names when we returned the next year (especially Stergos at the pool bar) and there is a good atmosphere.
You can't expect the quality of accommodation in Greece to match that in other European countries as standards in Greece are basic. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday to the hotel Cactus and being a travel agent I have recommended this hotel to a lot of my customers who have also really enjoyed their holiday.
Rhodes itself is beautiful and the old town is truly amazing and a shoppers paradise. I would not hesitate to go again.

All of our accommodation in Greece was perfect, except for the Cactus Hotel in Rhodes. Our room was exceptionally small, with no veranda and the bathroom tiny.
The shower recess was so small that a large person would not have been able to fit into it. A tap stuck half way out into the recess, making it impossible to bend over in the shower to pick up soap etc. as there was nowhere to put it in the shower recess. There were cockroaches in the bathroom as well. The mattresses were so old that the springs were broken and stuck into my back. They were also sagging in the middle. The pillows were so flat and the bed linen old. The towels were only changed every second day, something we were not told until we asked. Being summer, and swimming, it is sometimes necessary to shower 3 times a day, so where were we to dry the towels?
There was nowhere in the bathroom to hang 2 towels. We complained to the receptionist about the mattresses and asked for them to be swapped. She was quite surprised that we had a problem with the beds. When we arrived back in the afternoon nothing had changed so when we asked again we were told we could change rooms to the only other room available.
The mattresses in this room were marginally better. Handrails on the stairs were lose and came off the wall when touched. This would have been a real hazard for any older people needing the support. Overall the hotel lacked any style whatsoever. We were so glad that we were only there for 3 nights, as it was not a comfortable hotel in any way.
