Nice place but the location was not what we were expecting
This riad has most of the makings of a nice (even if not really luxury) place to stay. The house is confortable and the owners as well as the staff are helpful and friendly. The only point that was quite disappointing was the location of the riad which is less than average. The bab doukala area where riad Massarah is located is about 1 km from the main square ; one could think that it is just a nice walk but the hustle and bustle of the narrow streets of the medina is rapidly getting boring when you have to crowl your way 4, 5 or 6... more
Fantastic introduction to Marrakech
We loved our time in Marrakech mainly due to the care that Michel & Michael lavished on us. They really do make you feel at home. Each meal was fantastic from the french toast in the morning to the delicious dinners. You really have to try the home made chocolate ice-cream ...its amazing. The riad itself is a delight and there was nothing better than returning to the oasis of cool calm, tranquility after a day out in the scorching heat and chaos that is the medina and sipping the best mint tea in town! Its obvious that each... more
The new standard for personal service
Our hosts recently opened the lovely Riad Al Massarah. It was clearly their pride and joy. They lovingly restored the building and paid attention to every detail along the way. The rooms vary significantly in size and layout, but all are comfortable and well built. The common areas are a delight to hang out it. After a day trecking around the souks of Marrakech, it is wonderful to return "home" to this comfortable and well appointed retreat. Our hosts did everything possible to ensure we were comfortable and enjoyed our visit including... more
Peaceful Oasis in the Medina
This is a beautiful riad. No details are missed. Its a perfect blend of calming neutral tones with splashes of bright color. We had a delicious meal there our first night and great breakfasts. We also experienced the in house hammam, which was a unique and relaxing experience we enjoyed. But what makes it are the owners, Michael and Michel. They were there to welcome us at the end of a long hot day with drinks and snacks. They went the extra mile to help us organize an excursion to the Atlas mountains and dinner reservations. Michel even... more
Best guest rest nest in marrakesh!!!
Yes, it was wonderful!!...you are all right trip adviser reviewers!!...i never doubted you for a second .... This is a wonderful treat of a hotel, tucked away from the madness that is marrakesh. A good twenty minute walk from the main square but in it's own enclave with some of the city's best restaurants a short walk away (namely Dar Moha - don't have lunch before this feast!!) Michel, Michael - I hope you read these wonderful reviews - you are both so incredibly lovely and welcoming and both Mum and I will recommend your Riad... more
The perfect complement to the hustle and bustle of Marrakech
If you've never been to Marrakech, you should know that despite the impression of a beautiful sun-scorched city (which indeed it is), it does have a lot of noise, energy and intensity. At the end of a long day visiting the main square, souks, gardens and maze-like network of back-alleys, the Riad Al Massarah provides the ideal location, atmosphere and refinement to escape this. Both Michael and Michel go out of their way to help with everything and anything; from booking; when you will be offered a personal collection and meal if... more
Perfect for a romantic break
This is really as lovely as everyone says. You will be looked after from the moment you arrive at the airport. The riad is a beautiful oasis in the fascinating but crazy streets of marrakesh. The rooms have been tastefully refurbished. The breakfasts are amazing and throughout the day tea and delicious pastries are in constant supply. Oh and the massage we had in the hamman was amazing. Couldnt reccomend it more for a relaxing romantic break.
The best homemade chocolate ice cream!
Not the first thing that I would have mentioned, but the wife insisted! i booked this riad after reading several reviews on this site as a surprise birthday present for my wife. She has always wanted to go to Marrakech, but rather that book a room in a big fancy hotel ( and there are a few), I wanted something a bit different. This place is amazing, the alley where the riad is adds to the impact of opening a door like every other onto a quiet paradise. Its beautiful, peaceful and you immediately feel relaxed. Michel and Michael are wonderful... more
An oasis of tranquility
We booked our stay at the Riad after reading some of the other reviews and were not disappointed. You feel like you are guests in the home of Michael & Michel and not in a hotel. They could not be more helpful, transport is provided to & from the ariport, Michel is happy to spend a morning with you showing you the different areas of the souk, restaurants are recommended and booked. On returning from your days out exploring you are offered cold drinks or a dip in the lovely pool. The in house hamman is also a treat as is the... more
Wonderful & Welcoming Riad
Having travelled extensively over the last few years and sampled literally hundreds of guesthouses and hotels, it is safe to say we have never stayed somewhere so wonderful and welcoming as the Riad Al Massarah. Not ones to take holidaying lightly, we thoroughly researched our accommodation, ploughing through numerous Riads via their own websites and checking reviews, before choosing this one and boy it was worth it! Tucked away down a small alleyway in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the old town, lies a very ordinary looking... more
