President Hotel Splendid

We booked to stay here for 6 nights at the beginning of August 07 but moved hotels after 4 nights due to it not being a pleasurable experience. The hotel has a great location being only 5 mins away from the main street with the restaurants/bars that attract hoards of tourists all year long and the room we had was not bad for a 2 star hotel. Myself and my boyfriend loved our stay in Taormina. Hotel Splendid was a basic hotel but suited us fine. We had the quad room which is like a mini apartment across the road from the hotel. It had a double bed, ensuite, kitchenette, small balcona, amazing views out the window and a couch and coffee table. I'd book this room if i could again because we spoke with others who were staying in the main hotel and they didn't sound very impressed with the main hotel. We stayed at this hotel for a week from 20th September. I had seen the comments made by previous visitors before we went, and this made me a little concerned as to what we would find. In the end, I have to agree with the last reviewer, I think that some people's expectations did not match the fact that this was only a 2* hotel. The room was clean and the view (with balcony) was beautiful. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and always had something to say to us when they encountered us. We stayed at the President Splendid for one week in early September 2006 in a twin room with sea view and balcony on the fourth floor. The room was very basic but clean. The balcony was small but the views were excellent. We were there for a friend’s wedding and we had a fabulous holiday! Despite being very basic I do not regret booking this hotel. Expected an average Standard for a 2 star hotel. Food Desperate we had booked Half Board. We lasted 4 Days eating at the hotel. We brought food to breakfast ouselves. We were asked by receptionist why we were not eating in the hotel, we told her the food was very poor!! She said she was sorry!!! We told her not her Fault. I would recommend not to expect too much from the hotel. The room I & my friends got weren't as bad as what was reported from others who were staying there at the same time. Breakfast is mediocre, mainly bread rolls with ham, nutella and they also have boiled eggs. Pool area is small and loungers go quite quickly in the mornings - usually by 9 am. My family and I (8 people)were booked to stay in the Hotel for three days starting on July11,2006.We were very disappointed.Upon arrival the hotel does not provide any place to pull in front of the hotel to unload your luggage.The hotel has room to provide this service,but instead allows cars to park there.We had to block traffic while we frantically tried to unload.Of course the hotel provides no bellhop.The rooms were dirty.The bathrooms were dirty and in a state of disrepair.The toilet seat, shower handle,toilet paper holder,and shower... more

Havin been to Sicily before I was delighted to be staying in the heart of Taormina, walking distance to Corso Umberto, the fashionahle shopping street, restaurants and main square. Myself and four friends stayed in this hotel end of June for a week. Upon check in we were given 2 rooms, 1 very small, 1 very damp and in serious need of decoration, both not clean. Obviously we wanted 2 new rooms and were thrown the keys abruptly (not before the male receptionist telling us there were no rooms?!!). this is a good basic hotel ,located just a few minutes walk from the main predestrain area of taormina. The rooms are clean and basic with beautiful veiws of the bay,breakfast is a basic continental . the staff all speak english and are very helpful with maps and bus time tables etc. we took a car( but parking is very limited )andso we did not use it,for fear of loosing our parking place out side the hotel we did not have hot water one morning but it was soon sorted out.
