Fantastic
Stayed here in October 07. Have stayed in Can Pastilla before, at the Alexander-which is Ok, but 3 star, the El Cid is worthy of it's 4 stars! Two huge outdoor pools, and one indoor. We stayed in October and the weather was good for the most part but we did have a day of thunderstorms! The indoor pool was a god send then (small but warm!) Food couldn't be faulted, breakfast the best I've had anywhere. Staff lovely! Entertainment OK! Can Pastilla is lovely, but not for you if you like rowdy! Plenty to do though. lots of shops, bars, cafe's etc. Visit the new aquarium, pricey but worth it! Arenal is either a long walk away or jump on the tourist train 3 Euro's return. If you want a night out try Ricky's bar, right next door with a free quiz at 10pm each night, good laugh or the Buckingham Palace Bar with Bob and Vicky. All in all Can Pastilla is a great place to go, a bit of a hidden secret from us brit's. We took two friends with us this time, their first time in the resort and they too loved it and will return! If you are going enjoy your stay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
well positioned
My daughter and i had 4 nights here and we found it to be a comfortable, friendly hotel and very well positioned on the seafront. There are two good sized outdoor pools, one overlooking the sea and the other on the back of the hotel. There is also a small indoor pool. We travelled up and down the seafront and thought that the el cid was definitely in the best position and in our favourite part of the playa de palma...further down it was much busier and very commercialised. We enjoyed the buffet breakfast, especially the freshly cooked omlettes. The dining room was bright, clean and airy but rather 'canteen like' and not really a place to linger over a meal..the food, however, was ok. There were very few children staying here at this time of the year but I think it is a hotel that would be ideal for families and also anyone with a mobility problem as there is easy access to the beach for wheelchairs and also along the promenade. The resort seems to be very popular with wheelchair users.
4 Star ????
We arrived and asked for the bellhop to help with our luggage, and was told this was a 4 star hotel and they were not required to have a bellhop. When we finally reached our room there was only 2 large towels, 2 medium, and 2 wash cloths for 2 adults. When we asked for extra large towels, we were told that was the policy of the hotel. Eventually, after begging, we were each given a large towel, but only for that day. This went on each day. We had half board and the food was good quality and plentiful. We don't understand, doesn't food cost more than lending towels? The hotel was fine, large balconies and fairly clean rooms. Playa de palma does not have any 5 star hotels, so either one should stay elsewhere or make the best of the situation as we did.
Overrated
Definitely not a 4 star hotel as presented. And 'all rooms with sea-view' is a joke. It's not possible to see the sea from the room where we were staying, the only chance to see the water and the beach was to go on the balcony and look left. The floor in the room had black stains on it and in the very first day we've found the bed sheets stained. One of the towels was also torn. We were in the honeymoon an requested one king-size bed. However, we've got a room with two beds, one near the other, and the mattresses were sliding apart. Thus, many times we had a small 'crater' in the middle of the bed and each one had to stay in his own bed as it was not possible to sleep on the middle. The food is ok, plenty of choices, although not as tasty as in other places. We were staying a week before to another 4star hotel in Cala Fornells, which was above ElCid in every aspect. Overall, this is a good hotel if you lower your expectations. Probably we would not go back there again and will try to find a better place, but we've enjoyed the stay there.
Loved El Cid
Hetrosexual couple - The El Cid Hotel was clean, well presented and the food was acceptable! Although i was a bit disappointed by the not being a ironing board and iron in the room, and no room service, but i did not enquire wether or not this was the case, but other than that, the hotel was excellent and I would defianatley recommend it anyone, the staff at the hotel were friendly and helpfull, which made our stay enjoyable!
Loved the El Cid
We arrived at El Cid C'an Pastilla, expecting a run of the mill hotel, but were pleasantly suprised. The El Cid is very clean, friendly and the rooms are of good size. The two pool areas are great, but could do with a few more parasols. The hotel is on the sea front, our rooms were on the side, but we still had a great view of the sea and harbour. The area is flat and central, and great for walking and cycling, with a cycle/walking path taking you all the way to palma cathedral. The food was good, the dining room clean and airy and overlooks the pool area and beach. We would stay here again without doubt, as its only 6 mins from the airport, yet the aircraft noise is minimal in the resort.
Fantastic trip, beautiful island, Clean, friendly hotel. Loved it.
October 2006 Our trip to Palma was fantastic. The EL Cid Hotel was conveniently located and more than we expected. The room wasn't large but certainly more than adequate for 2 people. Everything in the hotel was spotless from the time we arrived until our departure. The food in the dining room was plentiful and good. I highly recommend Palma and EL Cid. Have as much fun as we did.
Cid is in a perfect location...4 star for sure!!
I agree with all the reviews below, the Hotel Cid is in a perfect location. Right in front of the beach, 10 minute drive from the airport with the plane noise limited. The buffet food was plentiful with a huge variety of fish and other delicacies. The waiter staff (Andre, Vera, and Encarta were very nice and helpful. Both pools were clean and there were plenty of lounger chairs to be had. The bar staff of Abel and Tomas were nice and spoke English. The reception area was very clean and the clerk named Johnson was so nice and helpful in giving directions. The rooms were clean and nice and every room has a ocean view. The one drawback is the walls are thin, but this hotel is not a party hotel which is what we liked. The local transit bus system was very efficient and cheap. Catch Bus #15 for 1.10 Euro to go from Palma to El Arenal, all day long and it runs by the Hotel Cid every 10 minutes. We went to Palma and saw the Cathedral which is worth the trip. El Arenal is party central and reminded us of a mini-Oktoberfest. Definitely will be back in the future and recommend this hotel.
GREAT STAY AT EL CID
Second time stayed at "El Cid" have recommended to friends & family. Excellent location, hotel spotless & food FAB!!! Will be back !!! Paula - Liverpool
Fabulous view
Long weekend to celebrate Husbands 50th. Could not have asked for a better hotel, pleasant staff, food good, and plenty of it, always fresh. Asked for high floor and were lucky to be allocated one with 2 balconys to allow panoramic views. (ROOM 302) Do not be put off as near to airport, hardly noticed the comings and goings at all. Fantastic choice for a long weekend Enjoyed every moment. The Manchester bar closeby (no noise) is one we would normally avoid, typically British but as we arrived at 1.30am only place open! Very friendly welcoming staff and we enjoyed their hospitality for 3 nights! Prices same as home really for drinks, snacks good value too.
