More Traveller reviews of Latham Hotel
Basic but good
from canadian_live_abroad
My boyfriend and I stayed at the hotel for 4 nights in the middle of july. I wasn't expecting much from reading the reviews and considering the price we were paying but all in all it wasn't bad. We were in a private room with bathroom. Some complained that the rooms are small but coming from Europe I have to say the rooms were a decent size. I was expecting to be in a box a bit bigger than the bed but the room is actually big enough. The only down side is if you like daylight you're not going to like the rooms. I guess the hotel...

Very Rude Staff

This is for the General Manager of Latham Hotel, Mr. Stephen J De Fazio! I have already sent an email but no response to your reservation people asked that it should be relayed to you. I was there at your hotel on June 16, 2007. I just came from an early morning flight from Washington DC and was in a hurry to check in or at least have my luggage stored to catch another meeting. I chose your hotel despite the bad reviews because of the proximity of the location to my meetings that day. There I met your receptionist who seemed so unhappy...

Management response from lathamhotel
July 9, 2007
To whom it may concern:
My sincerest apologies for the late response, this was due to the fact that I was on medical leave (I recently had open heart surgery).
First and foremost I read your e-mail and all I can say is I am extremely sorry for any inconvenience that was suffered by you and your guest. I will council all that was on shift that afternoon and discipline decisively.
Here at the Latham Hotel we try to treat every guest like they are the most important person in the world, we might not be a four star hotel, but we try to give four star service.
Again after reading your e-mail I know there is work to be done, please accept my apologies.
Sincerely,
Stephen J De Fazio
General Manager
A Good Night's Sleep
from Susan1958
The Latham is very basic, but the staff are friendly and I felt perfectly safe as a woman traveling alone. I had a "family" room (quite small but had two bunk beds). The room and the private bath were clean and the bed was comfortable. The window opened onto an interior light well. At this price, I wasn't expecting a view and found that the interior room made it marvelously quiet, which was a blessing for a light sleeper. I actually slept much better than on other (business) trips to Manhattan when I stayed at hotels that were 3-5 times...

Slept really well
from DeeLittleHobo
Okay so check it out....this place is definetely not the Hilton, but the location is excellent (very close to the Empire State Building and within walking distance of Time Square, Penn Station etc) and the staff are very accomodating and pleasant. We stayed there for 1 night on May 21, 2007 and after a whole day of walking all over Manhattan, I was grateful to get into a comfortable bed and enjoy a good night sleep. This hotel is housed in an older building and yes, there are long-term residents in this hotel (I gather they are single moms...

Bare bones, but leaves more $$ for everything else!
from Shaunsmom
After reading some of the reviews I was skeptical, however, because I was meeting my son in NY and would be alone the first night, I chose this hotel because it is also a residential building for single mothers. Being surrounded by mothers and small children seemed safer than the other possibilities. This hotel is definitely a low budget choice, but you're not in NY to sit in your hotel, right? I got a room with a shared bath and only had to wait once for the bath, and the room was always clean. Any time I EVER needed to call the desk...

great location
from werk4travel
this is a hotel for anyone who wants to stay right in the middle of new york city and not pay a fortune, really for the budget traveller. you can choose between shared bath or private bath. the shared bath was clean. the room was small but clean. it seems like it was also a residential hotel in that families with small children lived there, but we never heard any "kid"noises. there is a disco downstairs, beside the hotel and it starts up on thursday night and was loud, so don't stay there thursday to saturday. the staff was great,...

Really good choice!
from latintravelerarg
I spent a week with my wife and dougther. We were in a share bathroon floor and we never felt unconfortable with this. People in hotel are very friendly, and floors are ver quiet. Rooms are cleaned every day, and you feel safety about your bags and things. Recommendation: if you travel with babies, book a crip before arriving. Really good choice.Highly recommended.
Why stay anywhere else?!
from vicgit
We have just returned from a week at the Latham Hotel in New York City. The hotel is the best value for money hotel that we have ever stayed at. The room was cleaned daily, with fresh towels and linen, this is the same as the shared bathroom, which we always found to be very clean and tidy. You also get a sink and soaps in the bedroom. The staff were friendly and helpful, especially when organising the shuttlebus back to JFK for us. The location (5 blocks from Empire State Building) was also excellent. Although there is no food available to...

Great Deal!

If you are looking for the Ritz then keep looking! If you are, however, looking for a hotel which won't destroy your vacation budget, which is clean and staffed with friendly, helpful people, then stay here! This is hotel is perfectly situated in the area around the Empire State Building. Very local! There are lots of places to eat and shop just around the corner. And the staff is overwhelmingly helpful & very friendly. What more can a person want???
