Langkawi Lagoon Resort

We just returned from our honeymoon in Langkawi and stayed for 3 nights in this resort. Service generally is good, especially their concierge staff, who gave very advice on best spots to visit for first-timers like us! Breakfast spread is good with ample outdoor seating. Me, my wife and my 9yr son enjoyed christmas holidays in malasia. Aftersome good ime for my son at Genting, we moved to Langkawi for some chill-now-rediscover-rethink moments. Check in at langkawi lagoon....Our check in time was 12 noon and we reached lobby by 1215. We stayed in the Junior Suite Hill View room for 3 nights in Aug. We encountered some problem during the stay: - website states that there are 3 restaurants in the hotel. 1 is a middle east restaurant, 1 doesn't open at lunch. So if you have lunch in the resort and you don't want middle east cusine then it doesn't leave you much choice. - some staffs are very unfriendly. We had a lot of problem communicating with them. Nothing really to complain about. The service was prompt and polite. The food was as to be expected at a hotel - nothing out of the ordinary. The private beach was beautiful! It was a lovely place for some peace and quiet. There's no internet access in the bedrooms so be warned!

I am always unsure when it comes to booking 5 star hotels as you are never sure whether they really resemble british 5 star quality. Howvere it was wonderful to actually find that the hotel was exactly what i required, a wonderfull relaxing retreat for me and my wife. After reading the reviews posted before we travelled I was extremely worried that we had made a big mistake by booking the Langkawi Lagoon Resort especially as I had arranged the holiday for my husband, myself and four friends. However, from the moment we arrived we found the staff helpful and charming the rooms were clean and well maintained, the gardens, pool and beach area were well kept and very clean. My husband & I stayed in Langkawii Lagoon Resort from Christmas till New Year 2006 & it was no doubt the best & most romantic place, quiet, cosy & very relaxing. The resort will meet the expectations of those who want to escape of busy, noisy urban life. We had the misfortune of staying at the Langkawi Lagoon Hotel during Christmas and New Year 2005/2006 and would like to point out that this was our 8th trip to the Far East (5 times in Thailand and this was our 3rd trip to Malaysia). In our opinion the Hotel deserves a 3 star rating, even though they promote themselves as a 5 star. Have just returned from this resort. Never again! Many of the staff were pleasant but didn't have a clue as to what they were doing. The management and lack of training clearly let this hotel down. You may only have beer or wine in the restaurants - YOU will be directed to the beach bar if you require a gin and tonic or other spirit with your meal. Only enough sunbeds for a third of the guests. I have no idea if it was low season (we were there in November 2005) but this resort was very quiet. It is rated five-star and service (and the complimentary breakfast) lived up to (my fussy) expectations. Unfortunately, the exterior decor is tacky (imagine a melange of yellow, pink and blue walls) and the room decor is bland, standard tropical Asian.
