Absolutely unique
I have have just returned from three days at Il San Pietro. The hotel is magnificent and the service is good - I found the waiters to be "too friendly" but foreigners seemed to like it. Our room was 53 - supposed to be the best as well as 54. Stunning views, huge room, bathroom and balcony but old-fashioned furniture. The pool is nice, but a bit on the small side. The beach is very hot. We dined there twice but it was very disappointing - Donna Rosa in Montepertuso is the best option in the Positano area. What makes the... more
Perfect
We stayed at the Il San Pietro on our honeymoon in June 2006. I'm surprised to see a negative review posted here because we found the Il San Pietro to be the most memorable hotel we've ever stayed in - and we've stayed in quite a few. The building itself is stunning. All the public rooms and terraces ooze Italian elegance. Our bedroom was beautiful and the views breath-taking. We didn't eat dinner at the hotel - preferring to take the free shuttle into town each evening - but breakfast (which we had bought to our balcony each morning) was... more
Please don't stay here
Oh dear, oh dear, for those of you thinking of booking this hotel please look at the review dated 28 May 06. I cannot say anything good about our stay. The breakfasts reminded me of the Travel Inn (a very cheap bed and breakfast Uk chain). If you don't order from the a la carte menue you get your cereal in a packet (seriously) and it comes all at once to ensure you don't get more than you are entitled to. the bus service into Positano was fantastic as it enables you to escape their overpriced restaurant. the boat ride at night was... more
Stunningly Beautiful, Perfect Stay
This hotel was absolutely perfect in every way. The grounds are beautiful, the common rooms - lobby, restaurant, the terrace pool and beach all were just stunning. The staff in this hotel ranges from politely formal to warm and friendly - all were very eager and prompt to please. Our room (a double deluxe) was spacious and beautiful with a wonderful view of the coast. Lunch at the restaurant was very very nice and dinner impeccable and romantic. We used the complimentary car service to and from Positano every day and it was unfailingly... more
knock out location
We long ago heard raves about this exquisite hillside gem. The location and views are arguably primo. The rooms are palacial. A highlight each night was hors d'oeuvres and cocktails on the huge stone terrace overlooking two towns and the rocklined Amalfi coast. The hotel provides free shuttle service into Positano. The weakest link was the food, which ,although good, did not match the service, physical plant or location.
Magnificient
My huband and I spent five nights at the Il San Pietro in mid September as part of our honeymoon. We were a little concerned as we only booked a standard room and know that the rooms in Europe can be a bit smaller. We were pleasantly surprised upon our arrival as everything about this hotel is beautiful and the attention to detail is amazing. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and plush. The lobby is beautiful and well appointed and we found the staff to be very pleasant and helpful. When they took us to our room it was clean,... more
A fine end to a fab honeymoon
We ended our honeymoon here in July and were delighted with our choice. The room with a view was amazing, the staff were attentive, friendly and efficient. Food in the restaurant was fab, and if you don't fancy a 200 euro dinner every night (the wine list is extensive and expensive), then the hotel car will drop you off in the village and pick you up again when you call - for free. Positano is also a good base to explore the rest of the coast
Magnificent Hotel
May husband and I are in our 40's and stayed at the Hotel 13 to 18th July 2006. I agonised between il san pietro and le sirenuse as I'm very fussy. They are both beautiful but very different. Il san pietro is out of town so its a more relaxing experience. I cannot fault the hotel even though our room was a little small. Next time we know which rooms to ask for. The service was excellent, the food the best I've eaten around the world, the wine fantastic, the private beach divine, gorgeous lunches at the private beach where you could take... more
Absolutely Amazing!!!!!!!!
WOW! This was our first experience at The Il San Pietro di Positano. I knew that the hotel would follow the 5 C's of Relais & Chateaux (Calm, character, cuisine, courtesy and charm, but the hotel went far above and beyond my expectations. We were welcomed immediately and made to feel at home. We were escorted to our room by the reservation manager and were absolutely delighted. Our room was marvelous. White walls, white ceramic floors with floral tile inserts, a lovely sitting area, beautiful draperies and bedspreads opened onto a... more
The time of your life...
The descriptions and pictures of the San Pietro posted online don’t begin to give this property justice. We had an amazing experience from start to finish. You are guaranteed to start missing this place as soon as you leave to head towards the airport on your departure date. A family run hotel that includes two dogs that walk freely around the property never disturbing anyone and stopping to say hi only if you want them too. A nice small pool upstairs but an even better private beach area below cut directly on the coast. We arrived on... more
