Hyatt Regency Kinabalu

We actually stayed here three times (1 and 2 night stays before and after various overnight tours to Mount Kinabalu and Sandakan). It was meant to be our "budget" hotel (compared to the ShangriLa Tanjung Aru where we stayed afterwards), but actually turned out much better than anticipated (was a bit worried because of some negative reviews on T.A.). You really can't go wrong with Hyatt hotels and this is no exception. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, esp as I had to send a parcel, which I had not packed, to another hotel in Kuching. They kindly sent everything by DHL and boxed everything for me. What a great place, next to the south china sea with veiws over the islands. We stayed on the club floor in a suite and the views were unbelieveable. The staff were always very friendly and helpful and the rooms always clean and tidy. There are some elements of the hotel that need a lick of pait, like the corridors, but the lobby and the inside of the rooms are amazing. I would definatley go back.

I stay at the Hyatt Regency two or three times a year, since 2005. I really love it, and it's the highlight of my time in Sabah. As a business traveller I stay on the club floors, and the complimentary evening drinks in the lounge are just spectacular, floor to ceiling windows along the whole floor. Stayed there for only one night and thought it was quite clean and tidy, its where the airline staff stay. It has excellent spa and gym inside and a pool outside. The breakfast was A1. Also on downstairs floor it has Shenanigins which is a Irish themed nightclub, beer prices were a bit steep though. It is at a good location next to some clothing markets and right across from the harbour and fish markets.

My family and I stayed here the week of Christmas and had a great time. The only complaint that I have about the hotel is that it's quite run down. My sisters' bathroom was leaking (they didn't report this because they didn't feel the need to). If you're looking for a standard hotel, then this is the place for you. I would've preferred to stay at one of the nicer resorts, but that's just my preference. After reading the reviews of this hotel on Tripadvisor, I was a bit apprehensive about making a reservation here. But the price was significantly better than other hotels of apparently comparably standard, so I took a chance. I am glad I did. My room (on the 11th floor) was excellent; it well appointed, everything was in working order, and I saw no signs at all of the shabbiness or decay some other reviewers had mentioned. Great service and wonderful staff, it isn't the newest of hotels but that doesn't matter, a bit of aircraft noise, but all hotels in KK get this. Nothing is too much trouble.

This hotel is definitely not 5 star. Many 3 stars in Asia are better. it is probably 30+ years old with all the problems that go with it. It is in a noisy area with 24 hour fast food restaurants outside the windows. The pool is totally bereft of any inviting features. The fitness centre you can hardly swing your arms around in - and this is the new one! The only good feature is the old shopping centre next door. Stayed in one of their suites for 3 nights. I know this hotel is old but it's in town and the rates seemed cheap. Anyway, the room was big but everything is just so old and worn. Nice view of the offshore islands and the sunset was a sight to behold. Nothing much to complain about but nothing much that really impresses either. I liked the bakery (everything is half-off after 7.30 pm) and also the Chinese restaurant (guests get 15% off).
