Loved it!
There is nothing wrong with this hotel! I was a bit worried after reading some reviews, but I adored my 10 day stay. The rooms were clean, the staff was kind, food and drink were more than adequate and plentiful, and I had no complants about the pool, lobby, or restaurant. I travelled during low season when the hotel was not fully booked, which may have helped matters. Other than the beautiful beach in front of the hotel and the very basic hotel entertainment, there wasn't much to do around the hotel (or so it seemed). There were,... more
Not Great
I recently arrived home from a stay in Havana, Cuba at the Tropicoco Hotel. Average facility yet not a great stay. We stayed in a group of 29 girls and 4 chaperons for a sports exchange trip. We had problems with front desk first of all; They were extremely rude to the entire group and refused to help individual girls needing assistance. The food was awful; no variety and the fruit was rotten. We experienced cockroaches in one of the rooms and stained/dirty sheets in another. Also, the entertainment lacked to say the least. Safety... more
Great experience!
I stayed in the Tropicoco Hotel for a week, during March 2007, as a teacher accompanying a school group from Canada. The service in the rooms was very good, as well as the food, and the hotel staff was always helpful and friendly. Tropicoco is located on a wonderful section of the beach. There is an International Clinic (24 hours open, with great doctors and nurses, as well as a pharmacy) just 50 metres from the hotel, and a grocery store accross the street. Overall, it is a very good hotel, with great staff.
OK
I wandered into this hotel after trying my luck at a casa particular in guanabo (total nightmare), this hotel is pretty decent for the price.. defiantely not excellent by any means. plusses: free shuttle to havana city fun to have hallways semi-outdoors staff are nice beach is nice negatives: _NO_ nightlife.. i hope you like sleeping or going to havana city. food is NASTY.. if you are vegetarian you are totally done.. _SO_ nasty.. the other reviewers would probably happily eat spam.. not that many... more
CHANGES Since January 2006
Here is an update after my last comments in January. Interesting to note is the fact that this hotel was shut down for 3 months over the winter so that Venezuelan patients needing corrective eye surgery would have a place to recover after their Cuban surgeries - an interesting exchange for the government to receive Venezuelan oil ! A benefit for tourists - the place was spotless ! The hors d'oeuvres table was back on ! Such is life in Cuba- on again and off again - supply and demand is not a part of their economy. Still no internet. I went... more
Tropicoco forever!!!!
I agree with was has been said about rep. Elias Valor. Great guy! Always willing to help you out. It is my second time in a Cuban all-inclusive and what I like most is the food. It is healthy, it is fresh (especially the fruit) and there is always plenty of it. Of course, if you are a junk food junky, this might not be the place for you as McDonalds, Pizza Hut and Kentucky chicken do not operate here (another plus!) What gives Tropicoco an edge over Varadero Hotels is that you can easily go to Havana on a day excursion. The beach... more
Addressing the deserved Positives :-)
What an awesome review from the TripAdvisor Member, Hamilton, Ontario. I agree with him that this is a great hotel, and I’ll even kick in an extra point because of the price. As a single traveller I paid 35 CUC per night in March 2005 - and that’s All Inclusive! You can check out some video and pictures of the hotel at http://cuba.atheart.dk SOLYSUN/HOLASUN REPRESENTATIVE: This guy is amazing! I tried out his Spanish, English, French and German and it wouldn’t surprise me if he also has Italian in the... more
Feb 22- Mar 2, 2005 - Addressing the ill deserved Negatives
Hotel Tropicoco SOLYSUN/HOLASUN REPRESENTATIVE: Wow!!!! is the only way I can describe him. Elias Valor my hat is off to you. This gentleman is an awesome person. A 10/10 does not adequately represent his value compared to tour reps we have had in Mexico. Maybe 12 or 13/10 is more apt. He very quickly makes you feel welcome in a foreign country and unlike most tour company representatives he is “VERY VISIBLE” and willingly offers whatever guidance and assistance he can for whatever need you have. He has very good fluency in at... more
Just a Recent Review of the Tropicoco
Hola all! I just spent 8 days at the Tropicoco in the Playa del Este region about 18km east of Havana. I found this hotel to be somewhat utilitarian in nature, functional but not dazzling. The room had air, cable, free safe, good hot shower and little else but a wardrobe. Maid service was good and it was reasonably clean. They also did laundry (personal) on site for a couple pesos a load. The food went from a poor standard (breakfast) but I didn't try the fresh omlettes made to order so I had fresh fruit, an egg, a roll, coffee.<br... more
Tropicoco hotel - Cuba 2004
The hotel was nice and the saff was friendly. The food was adequate. More specifically, the fish was excellent but the variety (fruits) was limited to local production. It is relatively cheap and clean. We went to this hotel not knowing what to expect and we were not disappointed. Service is good and drinks are OK. Ther are only a few umbrellas available for hotel guests on the beach, so show up early to get one. The sea is great and sand is very nice. However, there is always one or two jerks who insists on leaving some thrash on the... more
