Cheap as chips at the Troc
Booked this hotel for 15 of us who wanted to watch the tennis Masters in Monte Carlo. Despite the air of not quite being finished & a wide variation in the standard of rooms the Troc is great value for money. It's spotlessly clean, new towels every day. decent sized rooms, good location being an overhit topspin Federer backhand from the station (trains up to Monte go every half hour). Most other places of interest were a 10 minute walk. The area is scruffy but lots of local character, like the skip and the --- shop opposite. Breakfast round... more
Excellent Value for Money
I booked this hotel at the last minute in August for my mother and I to stay for 4 nights. I had reservations after having read previous reveiws but the price was excellent to decided to "go for it". I was really impressed with everything from the time I arrived to the time I left. Location is excellent just near the railway station. It is a walk to the beach and the old town but you can happily meander along and get to see Nice. (approx 20 mins)You can get a bus if you want also from the top of the road. Room: This was really... more
Excellent value at Hotel Trocadero
We stayed at the Hotel Trocadero for 2 nights at the end of August 2005, having booked online after reading other reviews on this website. The hotel is situated almost opposite the main railway station in Nice. This type of area could be considered slightly seedy, particularly at night. I have stayed in this area numerous times, and find it extremely convenient, with excellent value 'local type' restaurants on your doorstep. The area feels very safe. The main Promenade des Anglais is about 10/15 minutes away on foot. The hotel does... more
Horrible place
I stayed at Hotel Trocadero last April and never again. When we walked into our room all we didn't know whether to laugh or cry. In front of us was a tiny dirty looking bed, the curtains were falling down and a tiny tv was just hanging form an old rack on the wall. When we ventured in we discovered that the bed was in fact dirty i.e there were stains on the pillows and I immediately got rid of the dirty looking blanket which was on the bed. The only good point about the room was the bathroom which was immaculate and was newly tiled from... more
Beasty Hotel
Hotel trocadero much be one of the cheapest Hotels in Nice, But what matters most is the fact that it is a good geniune Hotel that offers exellent value for money, this hotel turned out to be better than what I expected considering the small amount of money I payed for it. There are 3 staff that do shifts throughout the day, Firstly the dayshift woman is helpful and polite, the manager person is also helpful, but the man who does the night shifts offers terrible service, he does not speak to you unless he is spoken to and is often... more
dont tramp, come inside!
This hotel is the most legendary that i've ever stayed in. Some of these other reviews seem to suggest to the reader that there's nothing special about TROCADERO but there is!! Take the nightshift man for example, when you go up to him he seems grumpy but when you enquire about how he cooks his fish or, where something is in the city then he's very helpful. He can also give you a good betting tip if you want, he's famous for getting them right every time!! The other staff are very friendly and this is probably because there is a very... more
Nice hotel
This hotel was quite nice considering it was quite inexpensive. The room was clean, newly decorated, with a new (though small) bathroom. Our room had a little balcony overlooking the street. The location of the hotel is excellent - right near the train station but also only a 10 or so minute walk to the beach. The staff were nice. I would recommend this hotel.
Good Value For Your Money
For £40 per night for two people, I thought the Hotel Trocadero was excellent value. The rooms were small, but clean, and the fittings & bathroom were brand new. It was very close to the train station and an easy 10 minute walk to the beach. The staff were friendly, and there's a really cool 1930's lift you can use to avoid the stairs! I would stay here again.
Adequate
Having viewed reviews and photos of this hotel, I was initially disappointed when I saw my room. I am 44, female and was alone for 3 nights. All I required was a room that was clean, had a bath/shower/toilet and was secure. I had all of this, and for 40 euros per night it was fine. I am sure the rooms featured in the photos of the hotel were double or bigger, but my room was tiny and a little depressing at first glance. All the essential elements were there, with tv and even cooking facilities (microwave and four ring cooker - although... more
great hotel!!
Hotel Trocadero is a 3-minute walk from the train station, very easy to find. The surrounding area is rather gloomy, not much scenery and a few "adult" stores with neon signs, but not in a frightening way. We walked at night and were not scared in the least bit. A 15-minute walk from the beach and Vieux Nice. There are 4 or 5 floors, but there is an elevator big enough to fit two people and their luggage. Staff is quite proficient in English. You have to leave your key at the desk whenever you go out. We stayed in early 2005 and the... more
