Well worth the money

Oct 2008, melhawley

Myself, hubby and 13 year old son spent a week at the simar and was pleasantly suprised, food is definately the big bonus of this hotel. Well cooked, plenty of choice good food. Even our fussy 13 year old did not struggle to find plenty to eat.
The rooms are basic but clean. The maid comes every day. The staff are pleasant and helpful. The only down side to this place is evening entertainment. Sister hotel Don Pedro is the place to go if you want things a bit livelier, we did go down to the Don Pedro a couple of times but make sure you go down early to get a seat.
The hotel provides a free bus which you book on the night before. It goes to a different resort every day, so when you arrive at the hotel decide where you would like to visit and find out which days the bus goes. The free bus does go to the big market at Inca one day but if you dont fancy a whole day shopping there is a market on Wednesdays at Puerto Pollenca. Puerto Pollenca is about an hours walk away but it does get a bit rocky at one point so wouldnt recommend it for people with young children or walking difficulties.
This place is lovely family resort but if you want something wild and wacky its not for you. There are a few steps so the elderly and infirm may struggle. Teenagers may find it a little too quiet, ours did and we had to spend a lot of time entertaining him. Wished we'd haved took one of his pals and that would have made it spot on for him. Definately worth the money, Enjoy!

Me and my girlfriend spent a week in...
9 / 10
Aug 2008, poleontour

Me and my girlfriend spent a week in Simar in Sep 2007. Overall it was very nice holiday. We thought that the hotel is very clean. The room facilities are quite limited, it did not matter to us a lot though as we spent very litle time in the room anyway. We were very happy with the choice of food as we had AI package, there was always a good choice of food with selection of wine and draught beer to help yourself with. The service in the restaurant was good as well, especially Miguel who was in charge. There was also nice selection of drinks in the bar.
The entertainment was quite fun and you can choose between Simar and Don Pedro(sister hotel).
We cannot comment too much on the pool as we were going always to the beach. I'd recommend the visit to Port de Pollenca, which is very picturesque, and you can catch the bus to Alcudia 50m from the hotel.
We would recommend this hotel to everyone who looks for quite and relaxing holiday.

GOT BACK LAST WEEKEND HAD A GREAT...

Aug 2008, Mrs V Barmby

GOT BACK LAST WEEKEND HAD A GREAT TIME, SO PEACEFUL AND QUIET. ON THE BEACH PERFECT LOCATION, NO COMPLAINTS THE SIMAR IS GREAT GOING BACK NEXT YR. FOOD NOT BRILL BUT EDIBLE. YOU ARE ABLE TO POUR YOUR OWN DRINKS IN THE RESTAURANT. ALL BOTTLES OF SPIRITS. WINE AND BEER ON TAP, THOUGHT THAT WAS BRILL NEVER HAD THAT BEFORE.
CALAS SAN VINCENT RESTAURNT 2 MINS AWAY, BEST MEAL I HAD HAD IN AGES WORTH 82 EUROS. WE EVEN SAW JON TOURES FROM MASTERCHEF IN THERE WITH HIS FAMILY.
BARS - ONLY A FEW BARS OPEN UNTIL LATE, THE HOTEL BARS CLOSE AT 12 ASWELL AS THE ENTERTAINMENT. BUT TO BE HONEST I WAS READY FOR BED BY THEN AFTER YOU HAVE BEEN DRINKING FROM EARLY AFTERNOON. YOU CAN GET BUS OR TAXI INTO PORT DE POLLENCA WHICH IS LOVERLY AND LIVELY LOADS OF LATE BARS AND CLUBS.
TOBACCO - IS 25 EUROS FOR 10 PACKS OF 50G AMBERLEAF, THE SHOP IS LEFT OF THE SIMAR AND DOWN THE STEPS ACROSS THE ROAD ALONG WITH THE PHARMACY SHOULD YOU NEED IT.
THE PAPERSHOP IS LITERALLY NEXT DOOR THE SIMAR RESTAURANT. tHE DON PEDRO WHICH IS THE SISTER HOTEL HOLDS THE ENTERTAINMENT - IS RIGHT ON THE BEACH. BOT HOTELS ARE CLEAN AND TIDY ALL WE EVER SAW WAS STAFF CLEANING OR TIDYING UP FROM DUSK TILL DAWN.
GREAT PLACE TO STAY CAN'T FAULT IT. NOT ONE BAD REVIEW ON HERE BEFORE I WENT AWAY AND THAT IS WHY I BOOKED AS ALL REVIEWS WERE 10/10. THIS PLACE IS SPOT ON I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THIS PLACE IT'S MY LITTLE PARADISE. WILL BE TAKING MY KIDS NEXT TIME.

We arrived late and were sent...

Aug 2007, Mrs A Stanhope

We arrived late and were sent unaccompanied over the road from Reception to apartments.
Couldn’t find lights and negotiate loads of stairs. Fell over the suits of armour (yes!) to our dark room - generator view and noise all night. We suffered no running water for nearly 2 days because inadequate hotel tank.
Generally old fashioned, not up with sister hotel Don Pedro down the road. Swimming pool smelt funny. Everywhere bit tired and out of date. Move to Don Pedro much better.

Booked this holiday as a last minute...
7 / 10
Jun 2007, Mrs Z Padfield

Booked this holiday as a last minute deal the week before we went. There were me, my husband, and our son who is nearly 4.
I was a bit concerned when I read the reviews beforehand regarding Cala san Vincente as none of them made this resort sound too good.
The hotel was very nice, rooms clean and quite spacious. Reception was manned 24 hours so there was always someone there if you needed anything.
The hotel was very quiet and not greatly suited to small children as people just wanted to relax around the pool, however, the hotel next door, Don Pedro, is part of the same chain of hotels and you can use this in the same manner as the Simar.
You can get your food and drinks there, two pools are available to be used (one if which is a children’s pool) and the better evening entertainment is held here.
Nights were kind of holiday camp ish, kids disco, and bingo and then a show which ranged from parrots, magicians to 70's music and karaoke. Kids loved it.
The hotel runs a free bus to and from Alcudia twice daily except for Saturdays, the beaches here are better and you would need to do this for any shopping you wanted to get. We got a return taxi into Alcudia one night which cost around 50euro, this was money well spent as we had a lovely evening.
There are a few restaurants in Cala san Vincente and a couple of souvenir shops which are handy for any little things you might need.
We wouldn't actually go back to this resort because it was so isolated but if it's a nice family holiday in a good quality hotel that you're after this is the place for you.

Unsure what to expect when we booked...
9 / 10
Sep 2006, Mrs J Graham

Unsure what to expect when we booked at The Simar as it seemed cheap as it only cost 236GBP for a week half board.
However, it was a marvellous holiday and we would certainly go back. Upon arrival we were not very happy with the room as it was down several flights of steps, but when we asked if this could be changed we were moved to a room on the first floor, with a sea view.
All the staff were very helpful, courteous and spoke good English. The food was varied, there was lots of choice but I would have preferred a more Spanish menu than some of the traditional English dishes that were offered (shepherd's pie one evening!). There were lots of salads, cold meats, cooked meat and fish, fresh fruit and various desserts, so something to please everyone, including vegetarians. Breakfast was either a full English or more continental style. It would be very hard to complain about the food, there was a lot of choice with a serve yourself buffet for breakfast and dinner, as much as you could eat. In the evening half board guests had to pay for drinks, even coffee, but these were very inexpensive and after our meal we took coffee out onto the terrace, having paid the waiter in the restaurant for that and any wine we had.
The Simar is situated in a very quiet resort, there is very little happening here unless you want to visit the English bars that have been mentioned in other reviews. For us, the nightly musical entertainment at the Simar was fine. This ranged from keyboard players to guitar players, and one evening there was karaoke but even this was not too rowdy.
If you want a holiday with lots going off, with rowdy pubs, bingo and amusement arcades, then this is NOT the place to go. Neither is it good if you have mobility problems as there are steps in the hotel up to the dining room and to most of the rooms, (there is a lift, but not to every floor) and there are also steps or a walk downhill to the beaches.
This is the place to go if you prefer a quiet, relaxing atmosphere, away from the holidaying masses of Brits abroad. We hired a car and visited other parts of the island, but you could spend a relaxing time here by the hotel pool or on their sun terrace, or on the beach.

Hotel is very nice, clean and has...

Aug 2006, Mrs BW Smith

Hotel is very nice, clean and has very comfortable beds. The food is lovely, not for those who like fish and chips!
Or bingo etc, thank goodness! The air con. Was switched off at some point during the night which was a bit uncomfortable, but we were able to hire a fan for a few euros from the nearby hire shop.
Our tour operator was smashing, we were treated as individuals and I would certainly travel with them again. A place we will be going back to, fabulous holiday.

When we arrived at the hotel we went...
3 / 10
Aug 2005, Not Specified

When we arrived at the hotel we went to check in. The young man on reception spoke hardly any English, which maybe is a bit arrogant for us o think, but should know the basics of English.
We got into out room (eventually!) and didn’t have any electricity. We later found out you had to put a card off you key in a slot. Anything that breaks the beam will also work if you want to leave the air con on all day.
We were pleased to find a fridge, sink etc in the room. Something we didn’t expect.
Food was monotonous. The only good thing was the waiter called ******* from Austria, however he left at the end of August. One morning we found a piece of wire in the fried egg! We complained and later we discovered through our ways and means that this was a piece of wire wool that is used for cleaning. the manager did not apologise but simply said "these things happen!"
Our fridge broke for 5 days. We complained 5 times but nothing was done about this. It started to smell rather funky too!
There was a water ban while we were there. The government turned off the water. We had a dribble of cold water some days and hot for about 1 day. Not good when you are there for 2 weeks!
The room above must have left their taps turned on because when the water came back on, their room flooded and was coming into our room through our light fittings! Maid service was everyday but the long brown hairs in the bathroom that were there for the entire fortnight, were definitely not any from my family!
The pool was very cold and often very full!
Negatives aside! The beaches were nice, there were 3 small cove type beaches which were quite clean. the sea was sometimes rough and you weren’t able to go in it! Gutted! Erm... A few bars around. Definitely go to MARINAS opposite the hotel. Makes home made chips! Mmmmm! Trotters is very English. The resort is very quiet! 3 hotels, about 6 shops and bout 8 bars! Bar Mallorca down the 77 steps is lovely! Definitely not for you if you cannot walk up steps! they are everywhere. go into Pollensa. lovely village!
Overall: fairly nice hotel, not very good food, people friendly enough but wouldn’t go again. Too quiet for me.
