You get what you pay for
After reading some of the reviews on here, my husband were hesitant to make reservations, but it was in our budget. We arrived late at night and was nicely greeted by the desk clerk. He gave us specific instructions on how to find our room, and we did. Its not a fancy place. It is old, but if you are traveling on a budget and would rather spend money on food, shows, shopping it is well worth it. We had daily maid service. The bed was decent, the bathrooms were clean, contrary to some postings, and we saw no sign of bugs or anything... more
Not the Ritz, but excellent value for money
Reading the other reviews on this site, I'm not entirely sure we stayed at the same hotel! I found Hotel Riverside Studios to be excellent value for money. Our room was clean, the bed was decent, I never heard any other guests, only once was the bathroom occupied when I wanted to use it (so I walked 12 paces down the hall to the other one), and we felt safe and secure! Although the phone in the room doesn't dial out, people can leave messages for you on it, and there are payphones on the ground floor. All in all, the hotel suited our... more
Don't do it, its not worth it!!!!!
So you've read the majority of the reviews and they all say it was a little sparse but good value for money and you think ok why not give it a go? Well don't that is exactly what I did and it ruined my trip to New York, I've personally stayed in quite a few different places including YHA's and tents as well as some gorgeous place this is a -- hole in comparison to all of them! I decided that the Riverside wouldn't be a bad choice for a short trip to New York, seen as it was my 21st not long a go and I just graduated. We arrived at about... more
Clean but old and sparse
We stayed here on Halloween night--it was a bit warm and there is no a/c, but left the window open and it was ok---the beds were terrible (hard and lumpy), but we got the room for $100.00 (with two beds)--no decorations or extras--old beds and old carpet---generally old place---BUT--was clean and the staff friendly enough. The location is good and the neighborhood is GREAT---and the Pizza place at the end of the street is good too. Even though it was old and rundown, I would probably go there again, just because of the good neighborhood... more
worse than college digs...
I went to this place after having read reviews so I thought I was prepared. I know these places are old, but when the bathtub looks like 100 years old, how bad would it be to replace it? The bathrooms were really gross. Saw a cockroach in the hallway... where there is one, there are lots more and a friend saw a few scatter in another bathroom when she turned the lights on. But if you can put up that, the rooms were fairly clean, staff were pleasant enough and the location and price are good.
Worse Than Dante's Nine Circles of Hell
I'd give this hotel less than zero stars if I could. I know it is cheap but don't stay here, DON'T! Please note my frame of reference; I have camped out in a tent in an earthquake, stayed in a one star hotel in Florida with Palmetto bugs, and have slept in an outdoor loft in mosquito netting in Alaska with bugs flying around me all night. This hotel is WORSE than all of that combined. (For true reference, I've also stayed in the Ritz Carlton Huntington, the Marriot Financial Center in NYC, etc.). So, let's get to it. I checked in November 3... more
Horrible!!! So bad I had to leave!
This hotel was horrible. I travel to NY occassionally and have stayed in various locations. This one was by far the worst ever!! I have stayed in places with shared baths, etc. before so I wasn't expecting anything fancy by any means. I checked in and was taken to my room. I was shown several bathrooms I could chose from. Only was even half way usable. The others had huge brown rust stains and the ceramic/paint was peeling off. It was gross. The hallway was dark, big trash cans in the hallway and the floor was completely uneven. I... more
Great price and great location!
We chose this hotel because of its price and we were not disappointed! We stayed in a family room that had two double beds, a sink, a fridge and a television all as standard. It must be said that the building is quite run down and the sink and shower were rusted in some parts but it is not unbearably shabby. Toilet roll is provided for you in your room so you must remember to bring it with you to the toilet down the hall. I forgot it a few times, which was a bit annoying! The hotel is located near the Hudson river, close to a highway... more
Could have been worse to quote someone else...
Booking one day before we were happy to get this for $95. The room is spacious, comes with a fridge & sink. The shared bathroom was average and you had to carry your loo paper in every time. Don't expect to sleep a lot - the bed was awful and it sounded as though the windows were open, when they were shut! But that's the charm of NYC so we got over the noise, but not the bed. Great location - a couple of blocks from the subway, few more blocks from Central park and a great little corner diner / cafe nearby. It was a safe... more
Great bargain for budget travel
I stayed at Hotel Riverside Studios for two nights (9/10/06 - 9/11/06). I was traveling on business by myself and needed a cheap place not too far from the Lincoln Center. I was skeptical of any place with shared bathrooms and these prices (around $70 per night), but I saw decent recommendations at tripadvisor.com, including one from a single woman who said she felt very safe here. The place is no frills whatsoever, but if you are just looking for a place to sleep, it's great. The hallways are reminiscent of an old fraternity house - drab,... more
