Good choice in Old SJU
I stayed two nights at the Milano 31 March-2 April. The hotel is very centrally located with nothing more than a ten to fifteen minute walk; the staff were friendly and helpful. While not a "luxury" property, it is a good choice for anyone on a budget or who enjoys a smaller hotel. Fortaleza at night is truly noisy; a room in the back will help if you are a light sleeper. Complimentary continental breakfast (fruit and cereal) is served every AM in Panorama, the hotel's rooftop restaurant; lunch or dinner is reasonable and easy if you're... more
Our favorite hotel in San Juan
We have spent a week at Hotel Milano every year for the past 4 years. It is small but clean and very well run. It has a pleasant rooftop restaurant and bar, the Panorama, with good food, drinks and a great view. The location is excellent for several of Old San Juan's best restaurants, bars and sightseeing, some of which are just a block or two away.. Rooms facing Fortaleza St., can be noisy, but they are larger than the rooms in back. This year, (March, 2005), we had the pleasure of... more
Convenient hotel, friendly, helpful staff, however...
We spent two nights here, Monday and Good Friday. Overall, the hotel is clean, safe, very friendly, helpful staff. However, if you want to sleep at all, do not accept a room facing Calle Fortaleza or what they call a "front" room. The traffic runs right underneath your window, backs up at all hours of the night with horns blaring and such, due to bars and night clubs in the area (one way street leaving Old San Juan just under your window). The noise was not from night clubs, just people out and about. The restraurant on the 4th... more
nice but don't expect charm
if this were a cheap hotel it would be a different story. but it's not. so you should know to expect strange oriental pictures with clean and simple rooms. there is nothing carribian or spanish-looking in the hotel, and absloutly no "old town" charm. but the location works. you could do worse.
avoid a room overlooking Calle Fortaleza
I agree with every positive remark made about this hotel. It is a great value, the staff is very friendly and the location couldn't be better. I did not heed the warnings of others about the amount of street noise since I have not been bothered in the past by rooms overlooking busy areas. Unless you plan on staying out all night you need an inside room. There is an almost constant stream of cars coming down Fortaleza at night with horns honking, engines revving, stereos blasting and voices shouting until 4am. I am not exaggerating.
Great place, great view, right price
We could not have been more pleased with the accomodations at Hotel Milano. The location is smack dab in the middle of old San Juan and just steps from great restaurants and shops. The roof top restaurant offered good food and a great view. I am surprised that more restaurants have not opened their roofs to the views and breezes. We especially enjoyed watching the cruise ship we had just disembarked, leave later that night. As many have stated, the rooms were not particularly spacious but certainly the cost and location more than made up... more
A Great Stay at the Hotel Milano! (March 2005)
This cozy little hotel is perfect for travelers looking for a comfortable, clean place to stay, without all the excessive frills. The only "frill" is the owner, Juan San Emeterio who is as charming, warm, and friendly as his hotel - we hope you will have the pleasure of meeting him. The hotel is smack in the middle of Old San Juan with its cute cobblestone streets and fabulous restaurants, night clubs, and shops within just a few blocks radius. The hotel has its own roof-top restaurant called The Panorama with a pretty view of the harbor... more
Friendly and quaint
The hotel is in a very fun area (Old San Juan) and has a VERY friendly staff. The room was clean, but a bit modest. The restaurant (where we ate their nice continental breakfast) offers a nice view of the port and much of the classic old city. Parking is tough, but the town wasn;t built for cars. They will help you find a place. Good value & friendly, helpful service!
Come for the charm, stay for the view
Wherever you stay, be sure to have dinner, or at least a drink, on the rooftop terrace at this hotel. (Walk down Forteleza St. and look for yellow saw horses.) The view is wonderful, the breeze is cooling, and the pina coladas are tasty. This was my first visit to San Juan. I was supposed to stay in Condado, but I'm glad I ended up in Old San Juan. (Condado has the beach, Old San Juan has the forts, shops, and a walkway that runs along the old wall.) The hotel was comfortable, the staff was very friendly, and the owner, Juan San... more
Perfect hotel in Old San Juan
My husband and I found the Hotel Milano (307 Fortaleza Street) perfect for our 3-day stay in Old San Juan. The hotel is walking distance from all the restaurants and sights of beautiful Old San Juan, and has a delightful rooftop ocean-view restaurant where free continental breakfast is served. Rooms are small but clean and well-furnished; the staff is warm and helpful, and all speak English; the atmosphere is quiet. Don't expect luxury, but rather a tranquil and comfortable hominess.
