Hotel Mela

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Mela May 9- 16. What a great find! We were in New York to celebrate my birthday and had booked a standard queen room. My husband contacted the manager of the hotel Mr. Lopez and he kindly upgraded us to a deluxe king room. The room was a good size with a large bathroom. Furnishings were lovely and bed very comfortable. Style of room was quite modern. Housekeeping was wonderful- so friendly and polite. I got my room for the Hotel Mela on Hotwire. It was a great value for the price. The location is excellent, close to public transit, and just off time square. The area is a bit touristy, but, its not a far walk to more authentic areas. The decor, and overall ambience were great. Service was fine (I didn't ask for much). The rooms were clean, comfortable and aesthetically appealing. They had wifi throughout the place, and the gym was complimentary. I've had bigger rooms in NYC, and I've had smaller rooms. . . My other half and I stayed at the Hotel Mela last month for a 4 day city break and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, we didn't have any qualms with the hotel at all. The location is fab, round the corner from Times Square and within walking distance to everything else. Yes, the rooms are small but they're also very clean and practical with everything you need, right down to a dressing gown, safe, champagne bucket, iron and flatscreen TV. Our stay at the hotel was GREAT! Friendly staff and quick check in. The room was beautiful and very comfortable. The elevator were a bit small but no big deal. Great location just around the corner from Good Morning America and Starbuck! I enjoyed my stayed and will return in November for some pre-christmas shopping. Cookie & Jorge

I booked this hotel mostly because of location.... and because they offer H2O+ bath products in the rooms (I have my priorities!) The hotel just opened in 2007, so it's nice and clean without any suspicious smells/mold anywhere to be found unlike in a lot of older hotels in the city. Reception area is neat and the staff is friendly and fast. The rooms ARE tiny but we were not staying much in the room anyway, so it worked well for us. This is definitely not your giant suburban Marriott room-- think small boutique space common for NYC.... more

The staff is fine but the rooms here are so small as to defy belief. I booked my room based on the positive reviews but after I checked in I began to question who these people were that wrote these great things. If you want to rent a room so small that you can't even open your luggage except on your bed, you've found the right place.

Nice, clean, new hotel. Easy check in. Staff was very helpful. We had a room at the end of the hall and it was pretty quiet. Room and elevators were a little on the small side, buts its NYC. Great location. Would definitely stay there again.

Started off auspicious as to the sounds of jack hammers outside their door. But we got a room on the back half of the hotel. Got slight upgrade to a queen -- not a ton of room -- but enough. Three of us in the room (2 adults and a 7yr old) was tight at times, but they had plenty of space for storage of clothes. Daughter had enough room for a pallet on the floor. I booked this hotel for a weekend without totally realizing the location - it was perfect, everything is literally outside of the door. I like the fact that it is on one of the side streets, so we took time to try all the restaurants and bars on that street (and avoid the tourist traps). Yes, the room is small, but it is clean and well decorated. I like staying at Boutiques because of the personal service and the Mela service delivered on that.
