Hotel des Grands Hommes

This charming, rather expensive hotel is situated in a fabulous position on the West Bank, right near the Boulevardes St Germain and Michele. Rooms are small and inadequately accommodate an international traveller with a normal size suitcase and handluggage. Friendly staff who unfortunately had selective understanding when it was pointed out that the furnishings in the room were greatly in need of a good clean. I chose this hotel because of its immaculate attention to Empire/Biedermeir decor and was amply justified to pay a bit extra for a room that almost transported me into an Ingres painting: the walls covered with period fabrics, the antique writing table and the mirror, the bas-relief over the bed, the crown moldings, a charming lobby and a winding staircase all added authenticity and credibility to a spectacular view of the Pantheon from our window. We stayed (4 adults and 3 teens) in Hotel des Grands Hommes for 6 nights (April 16-22). We had 3 rooms (32, 33 and 53). The rooms are decorated beautifully although small. However, the rooms are quiet and comfortable. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. In short, it is a fantastic hotel in a fantastic area. I agree with the previous reviewers with regard to the location and the nightlife. We will stay there again.

stayed for 5 nts at this hotel with my 13yr old son, read the reviews on small rooms so i was prepared, however the rooms had a beautiful french decor theme and were very clean. we had a view of the pantheon from the first floor which was lovely- hotel within a few mins walk to the luxembourg gardens and metro which goes directly to CDG airport ! My Sister and I stayed here for a shopping trip. If you are looking for a small hotel with plenty of french charm then the hotel Grands Hommes cannot be beaten. The Views from our room ( Fifth Floor) were outstanding and the location was perfect for all the nightflife and shopping of the leftbank. The rooms are really cute & quirky with lots of lovely period touches and detail and although small they are perfectly comfortable. Our family of five (three tenage daughters) stayed for three nights over Christmas 2005. The hotel could not be faulted. Rooms clean, bright and comfortable. Staff welcoming and extremely helpful. Breakfast, great quality and plentiful. Location is excellent and quiet. Thoroughly recommend it to those who want personalised service from a boutique hotel.

My wife and I spent 3 great nights in Paris in January at this hotel. It is fantastic both in price, location and quality of service. The lobby is beautiful, the staff very friendly (and not averse to speaking English!) and the rooms quaint, warm(it was January), clean and comfortable. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking a city break to Paris.

Stayed here for a romantic long weekend for wife's b-day. Room was tiny but cozy -- once i got used to how small it was i really liked it....the decor was great - authentic empire but not in the cheezy obligatory way....also nice modern bright bath. literally NO room for luggage and the tiniest of closets (once we unpacked we gave the bags to staff to hold). The location is the best thing about this place. The front desk people are friendly. But: The rooms are ridiculously small. Everyone knows that hotel rooms in Paris are usually small, but this is too bad. The rates are definitely too high for ca.12m2 rooms. It's so and so enough for one person with very little luggage. My room was supposed to be a "superior room" and assumably more spacious than the standard ones. This hotel is gorgeous, the location is fantastic, aprrox 10 mins walk from Notre Dame, close to shops, metro etc. We had a wonderful view from our room (number 60) and our own balcony which was fantastic. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The only downside is the breakfast which is 12 euros for some croissants and coffee which we thought was a bit expensive. I would definitely recommend this hotel as a romantic, cosy and inviting place to stay in Paris. Jessica - London
