Good value for money
We stayed 2 nights in August 2005. Our room overlooked the canal and the bathroom was across the hall. Airconditioning was a plus, external bathroom a minus - the shower was dirty and only a hand-held hose. Location was excellent, minutes from the Rialto bridge. We arrived late at night and found it thanks to the map on the hotel's website. Hotel owner Bruno pushed his 3 hour walking tour - beware! Breakfast was standard. I would stay again, but pay a bit extra for an ensuite.
Fantastic
Fantastic location, lovely staff, yummy breaky, great view of the canals from our window, great value for money. Air condition is a real bonus in summer.
Good Choice.
After staying in 5 hotels in Italy in the same price range in a one week span, I can say that this one was the best. The location is excellent, and while it is tricky to find, we found excellent directions online before we left home and found it with no problem. It is quite close to the Rialto Bridge which makes the train station and general transportation easy. The room was spacious and clean, although we were only there for one night so we did not experience the maid service. The hotel staff that we encountered were lovely and helpful.
wonderful in Venice!
We stayed in the Caneva in September 2004 for all four nights, it was a great place to stay as it was central to everyplace in Venice. We walked all over Venice everyday to all the different neighborhoods. Since the Caneva was so close to all the sites we could have dinner anywhere in the evening without too much trouble because walking back home wasn't all that far. The Caneva was at first a bit difficult to find as we weren't use to the small streets, the cracks between the buildings are the streets we found out later. It is really... more
Basic but Great Location!
GOOD: - Great Location - Clean & Tidy - Canal Side (nice view from room) - Large Seated Communal Areas BAD: - Small Ensuite - Pushy Owner (BRUNO) - Fresh Towels not provided Daily - Canal side location can get noisy My wife and I stayed here during October 2004 in a clean double room (number 42) with a small ensuite but nice view of a canal. The shower was tiny - no space to move - and my wife cut herself shaving her legs! We didn't get fresh towels everyday (sometimes the maid just shoved... more
Loved it
We stayed at Caneva for 2 nights of our 4 night stay - and wish we could've booked for all 4 nights but it was impossible to book all 4 due to the weird weekend booking rules. The hotel is in the most fantastic location - it's clean and our room was spacious with an en suite bathroom. The best thing was the large window over the canal - i sat on the windowsill watching the gondoliers float by - perfect. Finally, the air conditioning was a life-saver! We were in Venice in mid-july, it was very hot and when we couldn't stand the heat... more
Best 1 star in Venice
We spent two nights at the Caneva Hotel in July 2004. We had two rooms that overlooked a small canal. One room even had a balcony and we could sit and watch the gondoliers and tourists go by all evening. The hotel is conveniently located near the Rialto Bridge and is an easy walk to most attractions. The rooms are fairly plain, but comfortable. Probably the best deal for your money in Venice. The breakfast was typical and included coffee, juice and a roll of some sort. The staff was helpful with suggestions, though one desk person... more
A real find , once you've found it.
We stayed here for new year 2002-2003.,paying 88 euros (for cash - they charge an extra 10 for credit cards) per night, with breakfast. for a quite spacious double room, with a working shower etc. en suite. room well heated and comfortable. The room overlooked the confluence of 3 quiet canals with a small pretty bridge. remarkably well located - only a short walk from either the Rialto bridge , or Piazza San Marco. can be difficult to find which is to be expected in Venice. Breakfast is nothing special, but are they ever?. Helpful staff on... more
Nice 1 Star Hotel
We discovered Hotel Caneva on a student website. I think we paid maybe $30 a piece per night for the room. We arrived and the lady behind the desk wasn't that nice. She first said she didn't have our reservation but later discovered she read our name wrong. She had a little attitude going, but then actually walked us up to our room. The rooms look exactly like they do on the Internet. They are small, but very clean. There were two twin beds that were head to head and a sink. There was a small closet and we had a window that... more
Best 1 star hotel in Venice
Very good location, beautiful view overlooking canal and very clean. The staff was very helpful, and Bruno's walking tour (ask at reception) was very informative. The rooms are big and airy and comfortable. We highly recommend it.
