Hotel Al Vagon

We booked our stay at the Al Campiello Inn, but were actually given a room at the Hotel Al Vagon (where they direct you to check in). We never did figure out how this worked between the two hotels, but the room turned out great with a perfect canal view (Room 25). The furnishings and decor were dated, but the hotel was clean and is in a great central location. The bathrooms are small, but not much different from most other places we stayed in Europe. I went a couple of years ago and the hotel AL Vagon was teh cheapest i could find!The room was very clean and well decorated ,the bathroom was quite new and clean.We didnt have a room with a view (as I said we were on a budget) so I can comment on that! Quiote good location,close to Rialto bridge,lovely coffee shop next to the hotel entrance and a pizza place next to it... All in all very pleasant hotel!!

For what you pay, the Al Vagon is perfectly pleasant hotel in an excellent location. My husband and I had a standard canal view room which was nice and large (although the bathroom was awful), and my parents had one of the refurbished superior rooms, which was very nice indeed. Perfectly adequate for our needs.

My boyfriend and I stayed here in May. The hotel is in a great location with easy access to all the main sites, easy walking distance. Though we did not get a room with a canal view (we had a view of an alley), the room was charmingly decorated with a nice exposed-timber ceiling. The room was a little narrow and long, but we certainly didn't mind. My only complaint is that the hotel did not have a breakfast, even at 110 euro at night. We stayed at the Al Vagon for 3 nights in September 2004. On first approach, it was not very impressive. The reception desk is in the old part of the hotel. Fortunately, our room was in the other section of the hotel which has been recently renovated. This part of the hotel is directly on the canal (although not all rooms have a canal view). My wife and I stayed at the Al Vagon in early Feb 2005. First impressions are that the hotel rooms look nothing like their website! They probably only have one room that looks like that and you probably won't get it. The hotel is old, shabby, and poorly decorated. That said however, the rooms are fairly large with good bathroom facilities. The location is easy to find, and there is a bank machine right outside in the square. We booked our stay at the Al Vagon based on what we saw on the web and boy did we make a big mistake! We confirmed the room twice before leaving but on arrival they claimed we had arrived a day late. Much stress ensued and after being assured we wouldn't be charged for the previous night (which we never booked) all we wanted was to get to our room and get some rest. Well, rest was not to be had. We stayed here in September 2004 and the room we got was nowhere close to what we actually got. 1. We got a better shower at a motel 6. The standard was just apalling. You could take a shower while sitting on the toilet, no separate shower or even a curtain for that matter. and it was just disgusting with mold and cobwebs everywhere on the ceiling. We spent 2 nights at Al Vagon in June 2004. It is centrally located and within walking distance of all the sights we wanted to see. The room was very nice and reasonably priced. We had little to do with the staff, but when we did, found them to be very pleasant. After reading other reviews of this hotel we asked for an airconditioned room. We were pleased we did because we could close the window at night to keep out the noise from the restaurant below and still remain cool. This hotel made our trip to Venice memorable. The room we had was on a side canal and we both greatly enjoyed watching the action on the canal and bridge near by. We were in room 2. The air conditioning worked very well. The room was clean and the sounds from the canal were only noticable when the windows were open. The hotel is in a great location and using their direction very easy to find. We would suggest this hotel to our friends and would not hesitate to stay there again.
