Holiday Isle Resorts & Marina

The website and brochures are very deceiving. The place has inadequate parking, staff that never heard of customer service (the desk clerk wouldn't even look me in the eye or talk in complete sentences), staff that is unprofessional in that they bark back and forth at each other on radios, smelly and grimy rooms, cigarette holes in the bedspread in a non-smoking room, curtains that would not completely close, a small pool, and a very small beach area. I would have made my family sleep in the car instead of stay there.

We stayed at Holiday Isle for 2 night and the resort itself was OK. The place was a little run down and dirty. Many people come to party but we were not that impressed by the bars. But they did upgrade us to an ocean view room which was pretty nice. Carpet was a little smelly but it was for the most part clean. The view was very nice. One thing I DO recommend...go fishing! This place was not bad, considering what you get in the Keys, which is one of the most expensive places to vacation. The pool was great and the view was terrific. We stayed in a building away from the water, and it was loud late at night because of the live band at the Tiki Bar, but we were told that beforehand. Didn't see one roach, but that was because there were at least two lizards in our room... lizards are better than roaches, believe me. The atmosphere was fun, touristy and cheesy, but not any more so than most places in the Keys.

The website for the Holiday Isle Resort makes this look nice but its not! When we checked in they asked for a $100.00 deposit for security on the room - that should have tipped us off. The room had no windows, a broken closet door, chair and rollaway. It was located in a back corner of the resort and the rate was $185.00. We talked to three other couples that had bad experiences. This place is raunchy.

Run down, overpriced, tourist trap with horrible customer service. Went to check in and they cancelled my reservation and blamed it on me saying I booked the reservation wrong. There were two other parties checking in at the same time who were also having problems. One complained that their room was filthy and obviously a smoking room when they requested otherwise. The rooms were small, no closet, no towel or toilet paper rack, noisey (everything in the hall sounded like it was in our room) in one word, atrocious. Grossly overstated in their amenities. One greasey spoon restaurant, all others closed but signs still up, sending you on a wild goose chase, while in the grips of hunger!! But yes two bars, you can be the judge of them if you go. On telephoning this hotel we were given a rate of $185, however, the desk clerk said we would get a cheaper rate if we just turned up. On arrival in the very dated reception we were told we could have an ocean front room with effeciancies for $95 (maybe alarm bells should have been ringing due to the vast difference in rates)! We initially reserved our room on 10-30-03 for our Christmas vacation. Upon our arrival our room was not ready so we had to wait for the current occupants to leave, well at 2pm they had not left and we were told they had a late departure time, by 3:30 pm they still could not give us our room and offered us another room with no ac that smelled strongly of urine. My wife and I have stayed at the resort (and I use that term loosley), three times. The rooms are run down, the parking is tight and the music is loud, especially if you stay in the rooms next to the bar where the boats dock. That being said you can always go and stay at the sheraton or a brand name for $300.00 per night. The bottom line is that you pay a lessor rate for the atmosphere and its only enjoyable if you are looking for that particular party scene. We stayed at Holiday Isle the beginning of this month (November). We booked last minute and got a great rate of 89 for an oceanfront room. We had spent hours looking at hotel reviews and brochures from hotels in the area and selected H.I. based on the rate for the oceanfront room. Well, I wish we had paid a little more and stayed elsewhere. The place is OK, not great not terrible but the whole place could use a good cleaning. and upgrade.
