Damon Hotel Apartments

We have just spent 2 weeks at the Damon Hotel, 15th june- 29th june,2011 Room 316. On arrival we were greeted with a friendly welcome by the staff. For those who feel that having no lift and carrying your own bags up to your room is a problem, so what. This is a great hotel. The room was spotless and well maintained. The maids came in every day to clean the room, empty the bins and make the beds. The pool area was cleaned and maintained every day by a maintaince crew. All cleaning and maintaince was kept to a high standard. The hotel is in an ideal location close to bars and restarants for lunch time and evening dining. There is also food available in the daytime at the pool bar which is of very good quality. This is a quiet, friendly, happy hotel and i wouldnt hesitate to go back. And finaly. Olyimpia, you are a star.

i thought this apartments looked nice but they where a discrase. normaly i dont lok at review's because they are a lode of rubbish. the staff are rude. some staff nice but mainly horrid. the pool was green!!! reallt drty. but the surounding area nice! all nice apart from the hotel pool and staff!

After being bit nervous about apartments, they were very nice. Cleaned regularly.Staff friendly. Pool very nice.Facilities fine for self catering which we used a lot as very expensive to eat out! Used Kefalos beach village pool every day as it is lovely.Good playground for children.Entertainment was good on occasions. Fire show was brilliant and surprised when really enjoyed Elvis impersonator!Didnt bother with anything else but looked ok for young children. Hired a car which was helpful as harbour bit far to walk to and biggest supermarket is near harbour.Waterpark well worth a visit but expensive,90 euros for 2 adults and 2 children. Damon apartments near lots of bars and restaurants.Would definitely visit Damon again especially as able to use facilities at kefalos village.

We went to the Damon Hotel in Paphos as a family , there are 6 of us.
We had 2 rooms and went on a Bed and Breakfast basis.
But there was Amenities to make our own meals which we did.
The rooms we stayed in were so clean, the maids always made sure we had clean towels and sheets and the bins were emptied everyday.
There was A/C in the rooms which was welcoming.
The staff were so freindly especially Sofia she went out of her way to help us all the time.
There are plenty of shops around, and about 10 mins bus ride you can shop at a Huge supermarket which sells everything you need.
We ate at a restaurant called Piatsa Greka Tavern which is 5 mins walk from the hotel the meal was so delicious and the owners were so freindly.
We took a coach trip to the Troodos mountains which was breathtaking.
I can write so much more but there is no space.
I would definately go back again.

i was very disgusted with the accomadation it was filthy and very dangerous as our air conditioning was faulty and they would not move us so we moved to another hotel instead the atmosphere was awful and the pool was like a kidsmswimming pool not very big .room was not cleaned and the meals at the snack bar was off another planet i think would not go to the damon ever again rather have teeth pulled out.

If you like Britain, you will LOVE this place - it is like Britain except very hot!
The hotel itself was clean and well maintained, although it did not warrant a 4* rating - it was more of a 3*. The staff were friendly and helpful. The maid service was good. The only problems with the rooms were the cooker and beds - otherwise they were ok. The beds were very uncomfortable and kept skidding across the floor due to the wheels and also, take matches to light the cooker. Ladies, also take a hairdryer if you can't do without one. The rooms don't have them and when I asked at reception they said that the one they rent out to people was stolen!
There are two pools - having discovered the one at the back on the first day, we went there everyday. It was nice and quiet as most people were in the main pool - sometimes we even had it to ourselves, which was nice! I don't know how quiet it will be from now on as just before we left we saw lots of cypriot families arriving for their hols - and having read other people's reviews and experiencing them first hand, they can be quite loud and annoying, so beware! I wouldn't have liked to have gone a week later!
Also, although the alcoholic drinks are relatively cheap at the pool bar, the soft drinks are 1.88 Euros but can be bought from the Damon Supermarket at less than half the price - a can of coke was 50 Cents! If you are just lazing round the pool, this may be a cheaper option. The only downside was the pool bar food - it was not very good. Lack of choice and not very appetising! Also, not a great deal of choice for vegetarians!
The hotel do a BBQ night - it cost around 13 Euros each (6.50 Euros for kids) - and while it was ok, again lack of vegetarian choice - although it is probably the only REAL traditional food you will find around this area. The entertainment that was promised never went ahead, but we were told we could go to their sister hotel to watch it, which kind of defeated the purpose, but nevermind.
There are plenty of 'greasy-spoon' style restaurants and pubs around the place - too many in actual fact, but I guess they were just catering for the majority! There were a couple of nice restaurants which did good deals 15 Euros for a 3 course meal - The Raffles and Sisyfos were the best we went to! There is also a pizza hut and KFC - weird!
The Tomb of the Kings is just a 10 min walk away - it was very good and only 1.75 Euros to get in, but you need to go either first thing in the morning or last thing at night before they close - otherwise it is far too hot. We went at 8am and were back by 10am as it was so hot - it was not underground as we had thought!
Overall, this holiday did what it was supposed to do - we had a nice relaxing time. But if you are looking for luxury of any sort, or indeed to escape the brits you usually get on holiday, then this place isn't for you! I enjoyed the rest, but will not be returning. That said, it was a cheap, last minute getaway and did it's job!

The Damon apts are a great place to holiday wether it be with children, as a couple or group. The staff are very friendly the apts are large and clean. The pool area, lobby and bar are also well maintained. They are in an ideal posistion too with bars, restuarants and shops only minutes away. A 15/20 minute walk will take you into the harbour where you will find lots of places to eat and drink throughout the day and night as well as many shops. Hire a car and get about, driving is easy as they also drive on left. Go for a trip into the Troodos mountains as the drive up will give you some breathtaking views and you get to see some nice villages on the way too. A trip to Polis and Latchi are also a day out ( take your cozzie and a towel) and have lunch in the marina at Latchi great fish restuarants. Coral bay is one of the best beaches in Paphos so a visit is a must, water sports are available there along with sun beds and parasols and a snack bar, can get very busy so go early but a good day anyway. We would definitley go back to Paphos and stay at the Damon apts again asap.

Hi all,
Just back from two weeks in Paphos, booked through Freedom Direct, here are some thoughts:
Cyprus joined the Euro zone in January 08, and are still displaying the Cypriot pound sign, which looks like ours £, and the euro sign, beware the Cypriot pound was not the same value as ours.
If you go to Nicosia bring your passport, then you can go into the Turkish side of the border.
If we were going around springtime again we would probably go the last two weeks in April or the first two weeks in May, we reckon it would be hot enough by then but not too hot!
Be advised, Cyprus is running out of water! The Cypriot government has stated that they must reduce water consummation by 30% as we were leaving the various water boards were switching off the mains water for 12 hours at a time, on Friday 28th March Nicosia (the capital) switched off the mains from 10am to 11pm, limassol and larnica were also rationing but not Paphos (so far) we saw in our travels a number of the dams, and they are very low, maybe 20%–30% full, and there won't be any significant rains now until winter.
If your leaving via Paphos airport, at the time of writing you can’t take liquid through the security check points, so when you go inside the first shop/outlet you come to on the right (something express?) is the place to buy your water, much cheaper than the outlet further in on the left.
Damon hotel apartments
Although basic, it has no pretensions, it does what it does very well, they have excellent staff, the rooms were large and clean, with four English channels on the box, we definitely thought it was ok, and will be going back there, just a couple of points about the Damon:
1. The plug sockets are three pin (UK style) we bought with us (thinking we were clever) a two pin electric mozie repellent and a two pin travel kettle, there seems to be a mixture of two and three pin sockets in Cyprus, some places have one sort, some the other.
2. There is a internet café on the main road, it is better value and has a faster connection than the one in the hotel, come out of the main entrance, turn right onto the main road and its on the right (100yds?)
3. Nearest (decent) supermarket within walking distance, come out of the Damon (main entrance) and turn right, follow the road up (50yds?), and on the right there is a tardis like supermarket, well worth checking out.
4. Or alternatively you could come out of the Damon turn right (away from the lights) and drive to the end of the road, turn left, and follow that road uphill, until you see Carrefour on your right, big supermarket fair prices, and a restaurant upstairs.
5. The breakfast @ 2:60euros was samey, but good, so if you are buying it from receptions don’t buy a week ticket, but pay as you go.
Driving in Cyprus
While I was there I drove over 2,000kms and didn’t have a problem, they drive on the left, but there are a couple of things to remember:
1. Indicating seems to be optional.
2. Although the local drivers do stop at red lights, they tend to crept forward, and sometimes jump the lights altogether.
3. There are not many fixed speed cameras but there are a number of mobile speed traps, the speed limit on the motorway is 100kph (about 60mph) shockingly on the motorway I didn’t speed!
4. The price of petrol is 1:06euros per litre, diesel 1:08euros
5. You need a decent road map,
6. A lot of tarmac roads peter out and you are left with gravel “roads” at best, we had a Nissan Note, and took things slowly, but next time we will hire a 4x4, more for the raised ground clearance, than its ability to do off- roading.
Walking
I only managed a couple of walks, in the Troodos mountains, and the Akamas Peninsula, fantastic scenery, the walks in Troodos were long but relatively easy, the ones in the Akamas area are a little shorter but a lot steeper!
You need good walking boots for both areas, be reasonably fit, and observe the usual advice when walking in mountainous (Troodos) areas
Eating in Paphos and surrounding areas
We are not big food fans, and thought the food in the many restaurants we ate in was nothing special,, if we were to recommend somewhere it would be the following:

1. Demokritos on Dionysou street, Kato Paphos
2. The Imperial Chinese Restaurant, Kato Paphos
3. Peyia tavern in Peyia, good for meze, and used by Cypriots
Evening meals tend to be from 7:30pm onwards

When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised at how clean and spacious the rooms were. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Location was fab ,in the middle of everything. There were some great restaurants nearby,reasonably priced and good food. Overall we had a great time and felt the hotel deserved a higher rating.I would definatly recommended this hotel to anyone,we are hoping to go back this year!

Damon is excellent value for money. We upgraded to a two bed apartment and paid an extra £5 per night after haggling him down from £11 per night!
Rooms large and clean. Reception staff very pleasant and helpful. Barman miserable, it’s a wonder anyone has a drink in the hotel bar! Good position of hotel, near many bars and restaurants.
Sisifos restaurant opposite does a very good value set meal. Chip shop two minutes walk towards town is very good. Need to hire car and see the whole of Cyprus. Go into the mountains and drive on some very windy roads.
