friendly & safe - but noisy
We just returned from a week's stay in sunny PV. At budget-priced Hotel El Pescador, you get exactly what you pay for. The hotel is basic: rooms are spartan and clean. The beds are very hard and the hotel is noisy at night (traffic, noisy guests til all hours and, of course, the wonderful roaring surf). Staff at the hotel are friendly and kind. The location is good, just a few blocks from the Malecon and very close to a good grocery store. Mini fridges are available for rent (about $5/day), but many guests just buy a styrofoam cooler &... more
My first vacation
This was me and my boyfriend's first vacation away as a couple. We booked it about four days before we left at a last minute website, which we got for just about $500 Canadian dollars with taxes inc. Personally, I love this hotel. The location of the hotel is perfect, as it is close to everything and you can walk everywhere (no extra cash spent on cab fare). The best part of the hotel was that it wasn't crowded and the pool was great, clean, and warm. The staff was great, my boyfriend actually made friends with one of the younger men... more
Would not recommend it.
This hotel's location can't be beat, but the rest of it is below par. We were given a room with no natural light. The only windows were one in the bathroom to an alley and another one that looked onto a stairwell. Our pillows also smelled dirty. To top it off, it was our honeymoon and we asked to change rooms and they wouldn't allow us. We decided to leave after one night and couldn't get a refund for the second night. If you are on a budget and care about location, it's an option. But make sure to ask for a street or oceanview room!
Would recommend El Pescador
We stayed at the El Pescador Hotel in Apr 2005 for a 2 week stay. Location was the best part of this hotel, as it is within minutes of the Malecon. Reception was always very kind, as well as restaurant staff. Room came with daily breakfast, which was quite acceptable. The room, at first, seemed a bit old; however, remember that this is an older hotel and that it is more affordable. We were fortunate enough to get a ocean front room with patio, and the air conditioner worked beautifully... it was so quiet that we sometimes didn't know it... more
Good and Bad
This hotel definitely caters to locals. The location is fabulous because of it's proximity to the Malecon and you can walk to many great restaurants and bars. Also, it is right on the beach which is gorgeous. However, the service left a bit to be desired. And don't expect air conditioning. We repeatedly asked to change rooms and they would not help. But our room was very nice with 3 single beds and a king size bed and a decent view of the ocean. Overall, definitely worth the money. But I definitely would stay elsewhere next time.
We would stay here again - great value
We stayed at the El Pescador June 10th to the 17th. We got an excellent deal from Toronto, Canada. The rooms were very clean and very quiet. Importantly, the A/C worked very well. Our clothes and other possessions were left untouched by the maids, so we felt safe. But we still used the free safety deposit box at the front desk for our passports, plane tickets, and wallets. Our package included an american breakfast daily. There was nothing wrong with breakfast. Eggs, bacon, toast, refried beans, coffee and orange juice. The... more
Worth it for the money!
This place was worth it for the money. It was super cheap - we paid only about $47 per night to stay here. It is located in downtown only a couple of blocks from the malecon (boardwalk area). The rooms were clean and neat. The staff people were really nice. If you don't plan on speding a ton of time in your room - this is a great location for the price - if you want a great pool and resort feel, you should stay somewhere else, but it will be three times the price. A couple of things you might want to know before staying here:<br... more
Save Your money for other things and stay here
EL Pescador was in a great location and it was probably one of the least expensive. It is right next to the ocean, and it has an excellent view of both the ocean and the city. The staff there was very knowledgeable and helped me get to every place i needed to go. The rooms are very spacious and clean. Everything was great and I would plan all of my trips to Vallarta, staying there. It was not right on the boardwalk(Malecon) it was 2 blocks from it so you have peace and quiet around the hotel. I loved it and would recommend it to all!
Great Budget Hotel
My friend and I from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada spent two weeks in Puerto Vallarta, Mar. 11-25. Booked the airfare and hotel together, having very little information about the El Pescador Hotel except what we read in the brochure. The hotel was in a good location a couple of blocks from the Malecon (seafront promenade). Breakfast was included and the price was right. If you decide to stay at the El Pescador be sure to ask for room with a balcony and ocean view. Some inside rooms are small and tend to smell musty, however check out the... more
I'd stay elsewhere next time
I had read several reviews prior to staying here and knew the hotel itself was nothing special so I knew that going in. For the price and the star rating I have no complaints. However the staff and service was terrible. We would wait over an hour to get a drink while sitting around the pool. Also my friend I went with stayed in the sun to long one day and got heat stroke and was feeling very sick. Our room did not have air conditioning so we asked to be moved to a room that did have a/c so he would be more comfortable and feel better.... more
