Great hotel!
A really fantastic hotel in an excellent location. I stayed there for 6 nights in Januray this year and for $99 a night it had everything I needed - a comfy doubl bed, tv, basin, and shower and the staff are really friendly and attentive. I shared a toilet just outside my room with another person, not that I ever saw them. I also had a great view of the Empire State Building from my bedroom. For people on a budget I can't recommend it highly enough.
Wonderful hotel!
We stayed at the chelsea lodge for 6 nights in june this summer. It was our first trip to New York. It was a lovely small hotel with nice country-like rooms. The rooms were always clean and tidy. the staff was nice. Once in the hotel it was very quiet and peaceful, even though it lays in the center of Manhatan. It felt like you were'nt in the city anymore. Which was a good feeling after a hectic day in New York. The rooms were also very cheap. It was a very pleasent excperience!
Great value, Awesome location
I stayed at the Chelsea Lodge in April 2005 and wasn't sure what to expect, even though most of the reviews I'd read about the place were positive. I loved it. The location can't be beat and neither can the price. My room was even cheaper than listed because if you pay with cash you get a discount! The room was small, which I expected, but it's just fine for one person. Having your own sink and shower in the room makes dealing with a shared toilet much easier. In fact, during my 6-night stay, I never had to wait to use the facilities and I... more
fabulous & friendly in Chelsea
my husband & i stayed in one of the garden suites down the street with our own private bath & kitchenette. it was fabulous fabulous fabulous! it was very clean, the staff was very helpful & friendly & the location can't be beat. it felt like we were living in Manhattan, not visiting. the bathroom was huge, the only complaint i have is that it was a stand up shower, making it really difficult for a girl to shave. ;) the garden was huge (by city standards--don't expect a football field) & so serene & quiet... you could totally... more
Great place to stay, Great City
My husband and I recently returned from New York City for our 10th anniversary. We had a wonderful time. We stayed at the Chelsea Lodge and we were not disappointed. Like most of the other reviews that I read here, the place was clean and safe. The room was more than adequate and it was very quiet, especially considering it was a full house! The W/C down the hall was just fine. We didn't have to wait in que at all. You can't beat the price and the location was incredible. Everyone was friendly and willing to help. The restaurants in Chelsea... more
A clean bed, not much more
Convenient. Price was right, but the bed was hard and sheets were itchy. Noisyish street. Look, this is a no frills experince, a bare step up from a backpacker. Still, in NYC, a good clean bed in a safe place is all I wanted and all I got.
A very nice experience at a low price
Stayed here one night in early May. I came into NYC just to see a concert and was determined not to spend a lot of money on a room. I paid $95 to stay here and could not have been more pleased. This was my first experience in a B&B type of place, and initially felt a little weird about the idea of a shared bathroom. But I adjusted easily enough (and so will you, believe me). It felt much like I was staying in someone's house....which I probably was, come to think of it. Anyway, it's on a safe quiet street practically around the corner... more
Good enough, and a good value
I stayed in NYC over Memorial Day weekend and was determined to find lodging for under $100 a night. The Chelsea Lodge was only $95 per. If I'd been with my wife I probably would have passed, since she wouldn't have wanted a shared bath, but I was on my own, and I don't have a problem with that. I thought the place was fine. The room was clean, I had my own sink and shower, and the toilet (there were 2 on my floor) was kept well-cleaned. The hotel is a converted brownstone, and has a certain charm in that respect - it feels more like an... more
Good and Bad
The absolute worst service I've ever experience anywhere when we first got to the place. A grumpy overweight guy gave us the "what''s YOUR last name," as if it was a struggle to even look at us. Besides that- the room was clean and well kempt, though it was small. Didn't mind the shared bathrooms. Service got better.
Comfortable Hotel
I stayed in one of the suite rooms for a couple of days and then around four days in a standard room with a mate this April. The suite was very comfortably, roomy and clean. It was a ground floor room that faced the main street which made the room a bit noisy in the morning and sometimes late evening - though nothing that caused a major concern. The bathroom had a shower (with great hot water) and the kitchenette was handy though we didnt use it. The standard room was very small and dark even though decorated with light colours.... more
