Al's Resort

I originally stayed at this resort August 2006, then I occupied a Garden View Room for 6 days and found the resort good value for money with pleasant staff (night security being an exception) and a nice pool. I have just spent 2 nights in a Garden View Room and was disappointed at the apparent lack of maintenance and state of repair of the room, I also had issues with certain staff. When i reached K.Samui, its already 7.30 pm, we have called the hotel to arrange coach from airport to the resort. After waiting for less than 10 mins, a van arrive, and it only took us around 5 mins to reach the resort The staff are very friendly and help us on recommending some of the tour package but we decided to rent a car instead the room is cosy, and very nice although the toilet is pretty small everything is ok for the price we paid But the breakfast is a lil bit dissapointing, need to change the menu

Al's resort has two kinds of accomodations that could not be more different. DO NOT stay in one of the 'garden' rooms. There is a gap between the door and the floor so no matter how careful you are about trying to keep mosquitos out, they can come in and out all the time. Over night, my friend got bit in the eye and it swelled shut. The next morning, we checked out...but the front desk was less than helpful about giving us a refund for the rest of the stay. This was my second time to Koh samui and Al's resort. The last time i went was for my honeymoon in Jan2006. Me and my husband just loved the entire experience. This time we went there to attend my brother in law's beach wedding. We were a group of around 50people.The entire ceremony and reception was arranged by the hotel management. I booked a deluxe room and was really pleased with it. The room was clean, cosy and complete with outdoor shower and dvd player. I felt that with a bit of TLC around the pool area this could be a really great little hotel. The pool furniture is very old and is in dire need of replacing. Most of them didn't work properly if at all. The brown pool towels have seen better days also. The breakfast is ok, but as it the case with most buffets there is more quanitiy than quality. Overall a good budget hotel.

Upon arrival in Samui, exhausted after a flight from London then a connecting flight from Bangkok we arrived at our original hotel 'Samui Paradise'.... what they hadn't told us upon arrival was that the place was a construction site! After 3 hours of arguments they eventually transferred us to Al's Resort into one of the Deluxe Villas (NOT the garden rooms).... cheaper and so much nicer! This resort was horrible, its in bad need of a make over! we got a room which was crawling with gecko's! the bathroom smelled awful which they did try to mask with air freshners but this just made it worse! the pool and decking area was falling apart! the restaurant was dirty and the breakfast was average. The staff were really not helpful either, would not stay again. tried the banana fan afterwards, was more expensive but definitely worth it!

Great pool, buffet breakfast. Make sure you don't get room number 6. The sewer smell comes up through the pipes and it really stinks. They try to mask it with air fresheners but it doesn't do much. We only stayed one night because we moved to Lamai Beach, so we didn't bother complaining. Also there is room for improvement where the garden is concerned. Rooms are lined up on either side, but there are no tropical plants or palm trees. We prefer the thai style hotels, this one is too modern and stark for our liking

My boyfriend and I have just returned from an enjoyable12 day holiday in Thailand. Our flight from London took us to Bangkok and from there we had a flight booked to Koh Samui. We stayed at Al's Resort for four nights (after not finding room at Al's Hut Resort) and had the best time ever. The rooms are very nicely decorated, especially the villas. Rooms are all ground level, a few steps from the outdoor pool and amazing Chaweng beach. The hotel has nice beach beds, and the local merchants are always around to provide fresh pineapple, mango, coconut, corn on the cob, etc. These merchants are around but don't bother you (like they do in Phuket for example), they keep quite and simply give great... more
