Great little hotel in Venice
I stayed here in mid August during a two week trip to Italy. It was the easiest hotel to find of all we stayed at, even after we took the wrong vaporretto and got a tour of Murano! What if you have to climb a flight of stairs to get to the reception room, Italy is all about walking and climbing and exploring. Our room was a family room with two double beds so there was plenty of room to more around. The room and bathroom were very clean and we had no reason to open the windows since we were using the A/C, there were no mosquitos to be... more
If you're not a good map navigator, don't stay here
We stayed here to have easy access to the vaporetto stop for Murano, which is two blocks away, and because the hotel had a family room that could accommodate four for a reasonable price. There are several disadvantages to staying here, however. The first disadvantage is that you have to drag your luggage up 20 steps to get into the hotel -- there is no elevator. The second disadvantage is that the rooms seem to be infested with mosquitoes -- my son woke up with 11 bites on his face. The property owner knows about this because our room... more
Great place to stay! Must strongly disagree with previous bad review
My wife and I stayed at the Alloggi Barbaria back in May. We had a wonderful time during our weeklong stay at the hotel. Our room was the cleanest room we've stayed at in Italy. The staff was wonderfully helpful and friendly. In May there were some mosquitos, but we simply closed the windows and asked Fausto or Giorgio for the remote control to the air conditioner. With windows closed there were no more mosquitos. Problem solved! I also find it very hard to believe that if a room was "infested" with bugs that Fausto and Giorgio... more
Definately not worth the price!
We just spent 2 nights at the Alloggi Barbaria hotel in Venice. Please please do not make the mistake of staying here due to its charm and distance away from the action. Although during the day it wasn't hard to navigate the streets to get to St.Marks, trying to find the hotel after dark was disastrous and scary. We got lost every night, searching down deserted alleyways just trying to get back (this is coming from someone who has great sense of direction and navigated every other european city efforlessly). Not only that, but our room was... more
Best kept secret in the real Venice!
After some really bad experiences in Italy, this hotel was clean, quiet and run by very pleasant helpful staff. My husband and I had a huge clean room with satellite TV and a new bathroom. The breakfast was really nice on the balcony in the sunshine. We also felt like we were staying in the real Venice away from the noisy tourist lanes. Its about a 7 min walk to St Marks Square and is easy to navigate too and from. Its also easy to access from the Vaparetto at the Osperdale pontoon if you have luggage. I would stay there again when we... more
Really clean, really convenient, really quiet
This small Bed and Breakfast type hotel was spotlessly clean. The large, en suite bathroom was excellent with a good hot shower, hairdrier and toilet (and bidet). We liked the fact the the towels were changed every day and soap and shampoo were provided throughout our stay (one week). Breakfasts were of the continental sort, with fresh white rolls and a sweet 'croissant' as well. The butter was exceptionally good! There were jugs of good, hot coffee and milk and a fruit drink. The hotel was very convenient for waterbuses with the... more
Loved Alloggi Barbaria would go back tomorrow
We have just come back from 3 fantastic nights there. The hotel is very basic but clean and has a mini bar that is very resonable, clean towls every day and maid service. It included breakfast which was very basic but did the job. Its location was superb just 5-10 mins walk to all the major sights and the water bus stop was a 2 min walk. The owners were very helpful and informative and went out of their way to make sure our stay was perfect. I would recomend this hotel to anyone wanting a budget stay in Venice. And I would stay there... more

There are many other options for travellers looking for quality and budget while staying in Venice. The rooms at Alloggi Barbaria were clean but management was very unprofessional when dealing with clients. Air conditioning was promised in the rate of the room, but it did not work during the length of our stay and we were still required to pay the full price of the room. While breakfast is included with the room, the breakfast was minimal and tea served from a dirty tea pot so that there were specks of rust and dirt in our tea. I am happy... more
Loved this small hotel
My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights in July 2003 after a Med cruise on the Golden Princess. The room we had was large clean and the bed was comfortable. We were in Venice during the European "heat wave" and the A/C in the room was able to keep up with the high temperatures and humidity. The room had an individual thermostat so we could crank the temperature down to a comfortable temperature. The room also had a refrigerator stocked with beer, wine, bottled water and soda. It was operated on an honor system. Since neither of us speak or... more
Nice little B&B nr centre of Venice
This small hotel is located in the Castello area, in the north of Venice, a 12 min walk from St Mark's square, the main tourist area. I would recommend this hotel as you are staying in the real Venice: walking from the hotel to the main sights is spent going down many small alley ways and crossing several picturesque bridges. It is about a 10 min walk from the Vaparetto stop Fondamente Nuove, which is the place where you catch the boats to the islands Burano, Murano and Torcello. Beware, if you have a lot of luggage, there... more
