Alila Cha-am

i was blown away from the start by the unique architecture of the hotel arrival area. The car drove in and onto a green grassed enclosure, there we were greeted by the staff by huge umbrellas to shelter us from the sun. What was awesome was the arrival area which was a huge all marble steps that lead up to a wooden arch that was the hotel reception. that was amazing. ALiLa Cha-Am near Hua-Hin is about 2 hours drive from Bangkok. Transport can be arranged either by the resort hotel or you can arrange your own. ALiLa has a grand entrance to welcome us! Once we reached the "top" of resort, we were overwhelmed by the beautiful seaview and sea-breeze. The place is new, so it's in pristine condition. The rooms are modern, with walls and floors of concrete, very minimalistic but without being cold. The private villas with its private pools looks very very nice. Its not that near to any centre of activities so it might not be a convenient place to explore the area. My wife and I (with a few other couples) stayed for 3 nights Absolutely architecturally beautiful hotel - zen unlike other hotels in Hua Hin which tend to be traditional. My wife and I loved the enormous rainshower and Alila toiletires (think Grohe & Bvlgari). But some might find the concrete flooring too noisy for the room and lobby. First impression always last. I could not remember the last time I let a 'hotel' impress me. Alila impressed me. I stayed here for 2 nights, part of my once per month boutique hotel tour. The entrace and the lobby, is a work of art. Lots of 'space' used to create the sense of 'space'. I got checked in, got a deluxe terrace room, which is on the ground floor. The hotel had been open a month or so when we went, but it didn’t seem as if all rooms were ready (the room next to us was being used for storage). The hotel itself is architecturally impressive and the staff were all very attentive and reasonably efficient. The design of the room, with high ceilings and concrete floors and walls, wasn’t to my taste but was a change from the bland design you normally get in boutique Thai hotels. I have lived in Thailand for 5 years and during this time due to business have stayed at a lot of hotels in Thailand. Hua Hin is a great place for Bangkokians to get away from it all - at around 2hours drive from the polluted city, it's so easy and quick, plus it's a lot nicer than 'New St.Petersburg' or Pattaya as it's known to English and Thai speakers. Honnestly, i highly recommand to avoid this hotel, one of the most terrible experience we have had since a long time. We arrived at the beginning of the afternoon and immediatly when the car stopped in front of the white marble steps, we have had a bad feeling.
