Aana Resort & Spa

We stayed at the Aana 'Koh Chang' April 08. Is a beautiful get away hiden away at the top of Ah Klong Prao beach. With the amazing rainforset backdrop and river running past the resaurant, it was a unique and beautiful hotel. Set back from the beach, you had to Kayak for 5 mins to access the beautiful golden sandy beach with private Aana sun loungers, bar and hammocks. Husband and I and 4 friends just returned from the aana resort in mid november. it was amazing. the hotel is not directly on the beach (we didn't care about that.....it makes for a more quiet vacation). the friendly staff is willing to canoe you to the hotels private beach anytime...or you can kayak yourself. there is a great bar run by some thai hippies, they had a grea music collection and took requests (janis joplin, the doors etc). great food and cheap beer...don't forget the $8us thai massage. make sure you have 100% deet.....then the... more

Book a Villa. You will not regret it. Get a view of the water. Go to the spa. This place was amazing. A perfect weekend. Just make sure you get some industrial strength bug spray because this is a back to nature type of place so the bugs will attack you. Visit Koh Chang before it gets too big on the map and becomes another Phuket or Samui. The only thing I did not like was the 10 minute walk from the road after the songtaew dropped us off. Also it is better to fly to Koh Chang because you will be all day going via bus.

We stayed at the top villa, so we got the best view of the canal and the sea, eventhough it's not on the beach. The hotel was setup in the way that you would feel so relax. I like that when you need to go to the beach, you cayak a few hundred meters along the calm canal to reach it. We even saw a lot of jellyfishes that day. Breakfast was very good. Dinner was perfect. I can't wait to go back again.

Pros: Beautifully landscaped grounds, meticulously maintained. Well-appointed, tastefully decorated rooms. Very nice complimentary breakfast. Cons: When paying 10 times the average Thai rate for accomodation, it is reasonable to expect some concierge services, at the very least a functioning phone and internet access. We had neither and as the result, had the most difficult time booking a flight and making other travel arrangements. The disinterested staff was no help at all and completely unsympathetic. I loved this place, beautiful surroundings away from the hiustle and bustle and a super beach (which you canoe to) The only down side was the restaurant. We stayed 10 nights and used the restaurant a lot. The breakfast was good but for lunch and dinner they only had 10 items on the menu (3 Thai dishes not including a Thai curry!). It's also not the place for you if you get bitten by mosquitos. I used my repellant, mozzie net, etc and still got bitten so badly I ended up seeing the doctor when I returned home with large yellow blisters... more

My friends, just came back from aana resort and spa last month. the resort is fine in term of concept but not for the location. the problem is with the infos given. the fact is that the resort's photos have implied that the resort is on the beach. but not that really. you have to do kayaking about 400-500 meters to the beach and overthere there is only one toilet. the resort private beach does not look like beach. it seems like they have rents a small beach front and put the deck chairs on. when it rained you have nowhere to go or even hide... more

This hotel, like most, advertises only its strong points. I stayed at a villa. The room was clean, the plunge pool cleaned up nicely after the pump was run awhile. This is a natural place - there a few insects that make there way in; you are in a jungle and the doors don't seal. The resort is on raised decks that keep most of this to a minimum. This is not a place for kids - but really a natural place for adults to relax. You are aways from the main road where transportation is easy, but the resort will give you a ride in a van, and book you... more

This resort is a classic case of misleading advertising, and misrepresentation of facilities. My kids still bear the scars of the swimming pool with its sharp rought hewn stone lining. From checking in ....sooo slow and soooooooo hot.......to trying to open the front and back doors....My God...The jacuzzi/plungepool was green and thick with leaves, the room was smelly and full of mosquitoes, the bedsheets partly torn. Just completed a week at Aana Resort & Spa in Koh Chang, an island located in the Gulf of Thailand. This resort & spa is truly sublime. Superb architecture, contemporary, unfussy...The villas (where we stayed) have their own private, outdoor plungepool, great for honeymooners (as we are) so we sat watching the sun set with a glass of great, ice-cold white wine. The villas are perched on a hillock or rockformation and then elevated on stilts as it were, and have magnificent views all round. There is a restaurant by the water, yet another... more
