Villa Ilias

This was our 2nd visit to Santorini and Villa Ilias. The views are to die for, the location perfect and the staff are so pleasant and very helpful. The first time we stayed there 3 years ago, we were in the Deluxe room upstairs and it was perfect, but this time we went for the standard room by the pool and that was our mistake. It is worth every cent to pay for the deluxe room as the only dissapointing part of our holiday was the very inadequate breakfast and the horrible bathroom in the standard rooms. We visited Villa Ilias in early September and can't recommend it highly enough. It's in Firostefani, which is about a 15 minute walk around the caldera rim (or a more dangerous walk down the main road - Greek drivers - need I say more!) from Fira. It's actually more of an extension of Fira than a village in it's own right, and is just as pretty. The main street is cobbled, so a bit dodgy for those a bit unsteady on their feet but the views are fantastic, and the sunsets are better than in Fira. Lets just say this, actually I had nothing to say because the Villa Ilias was breath-taking. I'm sure this is partly to do with the beautiful scenery. George the owner was great and the hotel was incredible. NOt to pricey with a balcony and pool which was a requesite for many travelers in the Greek islands. Clean, comfortable, nicely priced and some of the best service I recieved in Europe. Stay there, pretty good location.

This was a great hotel located in Firostefani, just a ten minute walk along the caldera to Fira - while the walk was up and down hills, it was such a beautiful walk any time of the day it goes by quickly. Also the hotel is easy to get to if you have a car compared to staying in Fira. The hotel is very close to a mini-market which was nice. Magnificent, wonderful, awesome, stunning views from Villa Ilias, especially the famous sunsets. Accomodation was basic and compact but cleaned every day with fresh towels and bedsheets. Staff friendly and always greeted us with a smile. We stayed in the top room (number 14) which offers extremely wonderful panoramic views of the whole island - although be warned it can get rather windy!!!!! but the views more than make up for that. This hotel has the most lovely view in Santorini! It is located in Firostefani (next to Fira centre and close to many restaurants, shops, bus station...basically all you need for your stay). Also what we appreciated was being in a town surrounded by other little hotels on a hillside (like the postcards), instead of being in a big freestanding hotel on the side of the road far from town. For the €90 we paid a night this was an absolute bargain for the fantastic views and service (recommend you ask for room no 6) as it has direct steps to the pool but great balcony for watching the great view. We hope to return one day, George and the other two ladies were very helpful. Its a great location - step free access to hotel (although steps down to pool).

Villa Ilias was a wonderful place to stay - particularly if you ask for room no 6! We stayed for 4 nights last week - it was heaven on a stick! The room was small - need to fix the shower holder - BUT - the view from the balcony was worth a five star hotel rating - for 90 euro per night! We loved the mini market and liquor store within 10 (30??!) metres of our room. Best holiday we've ever had! Simple living with a decadent quality about it !

George was very helpful and his hotel has great views of the caldera. Our unit was pool side, small but clean. It was a great value for the money. It is about a 10 minute walk into Thira. It is quiet but close enough to enjoy the nightlife. We met some vey nice people there as we sat around the pool or at breakfast. We would stay there again.

George is an excellent host of this lovely hotel. He was very helpful with our reservation and also during our stay. Our room (studio with kitchen) was a good size for the three of us and it was kept very clean. Perhaps as important as the the convenient 10min walk to central Fira is the 1min walk a friendly and well-stocked mini-mart just down the lane. Breakfast was just a little 'uninteresting' (but maybe on a par with other similar hotels?) however, dining on the pool deck with THAT view....... We're happy to recommend this... more
