Villa del Palmar Beach Resort & Spa

Four of us just returned from vacationing at the Villa Del Palmar in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and we have nothing but excellent things to say about our stay. Reading the reviews posted we were very worried and concerned about going to Villa Del Palmar because of comments about the rooms being dirty, service being awful, the beds being hard and terrible ratings. We just got back from VDP and we were not happy people. When we first arrived (after a full day of travel starting at 4:00 am), they told us that the concierge would help us. Needless to say, we thought she was going to welcome us and give us some advice about the city. Before we got our keys we had to listen to her about signing up for a timeshare meeting during our visit. We said that we weren't interested because we already had one and that we traded ours to stay at this resort. She begged us to still listen because she got points. and... more

We had read about the aggresive timeshare people at the Villa Del Palmar, but no problem. We were asked a couple times but they took our not interested answer well. On the street is a different story, as well as at the Marina - a lot of aggressive hawkers. The hotel is very nice - we really enjoyed our week. While in PV, try the vegetarian restaurant near the church and the main square. We had a great buffet-style meal there, with no health worries. Just got back from vacation..first time in PV and will never go back ever again. Most of the people you meet are most likely have one thing in common....to sell time share. Wherever you go, at the airport, hotel lobby, downtown, at the market and the most ridiculous is, in a jungle restaurant in one of the tours. I attended Villa Del Palmar sales presentation in order to get discounts from their gold card. Not a bad experience. Our studio was roomy and though the bathroom was not classified as wheelchair accesible, we made it work. The bed was firm-just like we like it. The staff was Ok, and our room was clean. We had to go through the time-share bit for a gold card that gave us discounts at the resort and around town, but our salesperson was not pushy or hard-sell. If you get a room in building 3 (lobby building), it can get noisy at night. They didn't enforce the 11:00 pm silencio as well as they should. The warmest our shower ever got was... more

Stayed here 28 JUN- 5 JUL 03. Overall, it is a very nice resort. The grounds, pools, spa and workout facilities are all really nice. Our room, the smallest available, had a kitchenette and fridge and was also nice. The furnishings are all generally well kept and have all the amenities. However, the beds are indeed very stiff w/their concrete foundation. The beach was really just a very small strip of sand and the water during this period was not exactly pristine. After reading resent reviews I had some concerns about our holiday to Villa del Palmer, however everything was perfect. Having travellled for 24 hours from London we were warmly welcomed and quickly were able to enter out room. The bed was extremly comfortable and massive ( by UK standards). The rooms were cleaned daily to a very high standard, as was the rest of the resort. the hassle for time share presentations was not OTT, we opted for the gold card ( which gives 10% off, at the bars, restuarent and shops) and took a presentation. A group of 30 for our son's wedding stayed at the Villa del Palmer-absolutely loved it, great staff-completely accomodating and gracious. Cleanest place we ever stayed in, we've owned time-share 20+ years. The grounds were fabulous, pools & palms to provide much needed shade were beautiful. I had read complaints re. the platform beds, they were absolutely fine, we had chiropractors in our group & noone needed their services because no one had any complaints. Great choice of swimming pools to relax by. Staff seemed more interested in selling time share units then waiting on hotel visitors. We were greeted upon arrival and ignored the rest of the week.

May5, 2003Just returned from our first visit to PV and found everything great except for the resort. we'll certainly return to PV, but with another resort. We holiday only with exchanges with both RCI and Interval International, and this has been our only disappointment. Resort is rated 5-star, but that is only for the agressive marketing. One could hardly get directions to the restrooms without being pressured into a sales pitch. Finally said "yes" and did not show up. That provoked even more calls.Beds were about as hard as the bathtub.... more
