Sofitel Essaouira Medina & Spa

Position wise and facilities are good - but it ends there . Book online and go for the cheapest B+B deal - but leave it at that . Do not buy lunch or dinner here as it is ridiculously over priced and the service is awful . Staff are slow and management do not give a damm . We stayed here for the first 3 nights of a week in Morocco, and experienced none of the problems that some of the previous reviewers had mentioned. Location is as advertised, 5 mins walk from the Medina along the front, miles of beach opposite. There is a road between hotel & beach, so you gain a view but also some traffic. We were on the inside overlooking the pool, so can't comment on how loud the traffic noise might be at night. This is a hotel where the service is poor and where moroccans are not welcomed at all,the management has slearly stated that if a moroccan person is interested of having a drink they should go to a Cafe and not to come to sofitel, the food at the restaurant is tastless and expensive,a country where vegetables cost vey little,the srvice needless to say is almost non existant,too many new and good hotels are opening up in Essaouira and soon this hotel will be a thing of the past. We stayed at the Sofitel Mogador Essaouira for 2 nights a part of a package tour After two weeks in Morocco, heavy European influence at this hotel was a welcome change. The facility is well located across the street from the primary beach and a pleasant short walk to town The rooms were large, clean and well appointed with all the expected amenities of a five star facility. We booked Sofitel hotel as we were travelling with our 2 girls (6 years & 1 year old baby) but i won't recommend it for families, it has no kids club, no children's menu, no gardens for them to run arround, no one spoke english.Poor service, lack of facilties ( no tennis courts), unfriendly staff, cold tasteless food, rubbish breakfast, no help with luggage, list is endless. Essaouira is beautiful but very disappointed with Sofitel.We 'll never go to any Sofitel again.

My husband and myself stayed at the Sofitel in Essaouira for a fortnight. The hotel was very comfortable, and very relaxing. It is within easy walking distance of the Medina, the port, everything really. A nice walk is to be had to Diabat, once a 'hippy' hangout, but now a rustic village, with a river running down to the sea. The massive beach is opposite the hotel, a shortish walk will bring you to the fabulous dunes - through the gauntlet of camel drivers, a camel ride is well worth going on though. We stayed here at the end of a 2 week trip travelling around Morocco. By the time we arrived we were really looking forward to spending some time by the pool, relaxing, using the gym and the spa. Firstly the facilities lived up to all expectations. The rooms were lovely, clean and spacious. PROS: Very relaxing, just across the street from the beach, 5 minute walk to medina, delicious food, wide variety at breakfast buffet, room had view of the beach, decor CON: Not all of the staff members could speak English, but then the non-English speakers would find an English speaker to communicate with us; the vegetarian options at dinner were limited

We only stayed one night and that was under protest! Would not reccomend this unless you are French or Maroccan. Booked via Kuoni as part of twin centre holiday which cost £2000 for 9 night (6 at this Hotel). On arrival we were told that the hotel had no reservation for us and was fully booked the following night. They said we could stay one night but would then have to find other accomodation. We spent 4 nights here at the end of a 12 day tour of Morocco. It was an ideal way to relax after a busy schedule. The hotel is very comfortable, it is clean, the food is excellent and the staff couldn't be more helpful. Drink prices are not unreasonable for this class of hotel. We paid a suplement to stay here but it was a good value for money and all the other Brits we spoke to said the same.
