Good value
Good value for price, right on the beach in south part of town, loved the location. Two pools, one quiet one. Didn't try the restaurant/bar, only there for one night, but pleased with the room, very comfortable. Would stay there again.
Great Holiday
March 19 - April 03, 2004. The San Marino is a great mid range hotel. The location is so perfect - on the beach (where you make the choice of whether to sit by the pool with a view of the beach or on the beach in the sand under a palapa with an opportunity to barter with the vendors). The rooms are clean and large. We opted for the breakfast plan and were pleasantly surprised at the choices and variety. Of course there are Mexican foods offered, why else visit another country but to experience new things and appreciate new foods. The front... more
hotel great food horrible
we just got back from holidays and found the hotel room great with ocean and mountain view. the beach was wonderful. Poor bar service, only 1 bar, the ala carte was closed, breakfast the same every day, in 8 days we had the same menu twice. no variety in food, same vegetabes and beans every day. we moved from the buena ventura hotel 3 1/2 star to a 3 star because of the beach. they charged us an addl $50 which was a rip off. the sunquest rep did not tell us it was a downgrade.
Loved the location
We just got back from Puerto Vallarta and we had a great time!! We stayed at the San Marino and it was ok, the rooms need a little work but the staff was very helpful and attentive. Particularly, the staff for Chicos Dive Shop, Erick was incredibly helpful in setting up excursions such as diving and whale watching. All without the pressure of the people on every corner ready to jump out at you to book with them. I highly suggest looking him up there if you are in the vicinity of any of the hotels on that beach. The location was great,... more
good value for the money
Well, this review is a little late in coming. This was our 1st all inclusive;sept.,2001 and we loved it.Wife and I, mid 50'slocation: If you like to walk around; the city is right there. the beach was wonderfull: not a wide beach but perfect for swimming and playing in the waves. There is a public walkway along the beach so you can sit at the outside tables and watch the people walk by.Also there is a pier there that you can see locals fishing;and albatross sitting on boats. This place is for those who want to have an inexpensive holiday. <br... more
We Loved It
We just got back yesterday. We stayed 1/29/2004. We loved the place. We only had one night in Old Vallarta. We had spent 3 nights at La Jolla de Mismaloya. A 5 star plus resort in Mismaloya and yes it is. The difference here is price. The price at San Marino was very low for what we got. A view that was so incredible. We had a balconty overlooking the ocean/mountains. We had a window overlooking the town (also a great view). Since we only had 1 night, we didn't do the all-inclusive. We wanted to go into town and eat/shop. We did have... more
Location, Location, Location
First time in Puerto Vallarta and I will go back, the San Marino had a lot to do with it. Sure the foods mediocre but what can you do with a daily buffet. They have a new onsite restaurant, an adult only pool and I was lucky enough to get an ocean view room without asking. The view was incredible. Located right on the beach and within walking distance of pretty much everything you'd need to see. Friendly, helpful staff, clean rooms and a reasonable price.
good times, bad food
The hotel was in a great location! It was my second time to Puerto Vallarta and I went with my best friend and we had an amazing time. The only complaint we had was the food. We talked to some of the kicthen staff and they clearified that they have no decisions on what they make. It wasn't even that the food was discusting it was the same thing every meal, every day. Other than that we had a great time and I would go back again. It was alot better staying downtown in the heart of the city because there was way more partying.
Perfect location, beach etc for great holiday
We were there the last two weeks of February 2003 and took the almost-all inclusive (for our first time anywhere). First off, the location is unmatchable. The beach, view, restaurants, shops and internet cafes are all within a minute or two walk from the hotel. Beach is perfect even when busy on the weekends. We were in a superior room on the 7th floor facing the mountain/ocean and it was perfect as well as amazingly quiet (because the street below is busy with traffic). The staff in the dining room/bar were exceptional for service and... more
Hated San Marino Hotel
I was not happy from first arrival. -- I was told that I had not paid for a ocean view room, which I had. I was told I would have to pay $300. U S to get an ocean view. I notified travel co. rep. to see what they could do, to no avail. Second day I asked front desk manager if he new what the Internet was, he said yes he did, You would not believe how fast I got that ocean front room. Surprise Surprise. Third day I happened to lose my key for safe , was charged $100. U.S. to open safe. Food was not very good, so ate out most of time no fridge... more
