Royal Continental Hotel

I stayed for 5 nights in this hotel for a convention. Rooms that overlook the Napoli bay and the Castel del'Ovo are of course preferred and the view is great. Location is a little off-center but the area is safe to stroll even at night. My room was large and clean. The bathroom is large but the bath tube is narrow even to stand in. Breakfast is OK in European style- cereals, cold meat (2 types), hard cheese, canned fruit, cakes and coffee. I must admit I was a little disapointed with this hotel. After the fantastic reviews here on trip advisor and booking a superior room I was expecting a fairly special experience. Upon arrival the 'hotel' is quite definately two different hotels with different entrances, lobby's and receptions. We ended up going to the wrong one and were re-directed through to the reception in the Hotel Continental. The lobby of this hotel is much nicer than the Hotel Royal. If you ask for a sea view you will be surprised. Booking via Citalia seems to guarantee this. The hotel is right on the sea front with a view of the volcano and the castle across the road. The castle can be easily climbed to get a view back of the hotel and the bay area. Via Santa Lucia (5 min left out of the hotel)has a wide range of good eating places. Good sized room with comfortable but slightly dated furniture. Avoid the rooms in the back facing the street (noise) with no views. Good location facing the sea. Many good seafood restaurants nearby. A very pleasant place to spend a night or 2 in Naples. However, like most visiters to Naples, we had to deal with taxis to and from the main train station. We were a family of 4 and stayed in the hotel aug 05, children 14 and 11, hotel was ideal for us, very clean, quiet and the breakfast was good.Our room had a fab view over the bay and the loaction is ideal for eating out being near loads of resturants, touristy but hey who cares!!Roof top pool was great and the kids loved the idea of being able to order drinks and food form the poolside. Top tip though get a taxi from the airport as the bus was fine but stopped some way from the hotel and walking with kids and luggage on that busy road... more

We got a lovely room with a balcony looking straight out at the Castel Del Ovo and all over the bay of Naples. The views were great. The breakfast was good. The hotel itself is in a great location. We stayed pretty close to the area around the hotel as its very safe. The Royal Continental is a great hotel in a great location and when we return to Naples in the future we will stay here!

The rooms in this hotel are quite spacious and offer an excellent view of the castle and sea. This hotel is in the perfect location for Naples. It is in very close walking distance to a number of nice restaurants and to shops. It is also in walking distance to the major tourist attractions. I have heard that parts of Naples can be seedy, particularly at night. We did not have this feeling at all in this location when we went out in the evening. We stayed at the Royal Continental for a week in April. We had a very comfortable room with balcony. Although it was on the side of the hotel, we had a partial view of Naples bay and the picturesque doors and windows of nearby apartment buildings. The breakfast buffet was varied and delicious, including cereals, fruits, yogurt, cheeses, ham and boiled eggs. We stayed in the Continental side of the hotel, which we heard is the newest side. The biggest problem that we had was that our room was not ready upon arrival. It was vacant, but it took the maid nearly an hour and a half to get to it. We were told it would be another 15 minutes numerous times and just grew more and more frustrated. If we had been told an hour from the get-go, we would have gone and gotten lunch and not sat there in the lobby twiddling our thumbs. The room was fabulous. My partner and I stayed at the Royal Continental twice during our stay in Italy. 2 nights at the beginning of our holiday and 2 at the end. On both occassions we got a lovely room with a balcony looking straight out at the Castel Del Ovo, left to Vesuviss and all over the bay of Naples. The views were great.
