Riad Al Zahia

Riad Al Zahia turned out to be a great choice. The riad is in a perfect location--on a quiet street but only a couple of minutes walk from the plaza, the souk, and one of the forts right on the ocean. It's colorful, handsomely decorated and very clean, with several comfortable little places to hang out downstairs. Breakfast on the rooftop terrace was simple but well presented, with lots of sunshine! The ownership of Riad Al Zahia changed hands early this year. Our host, Clemente Navarro, from Valencia, is a hands-on owner/manager. The rooms and public spaces are tastefully decorated, the service cheerful and roof top terrace affords a lovely view of the Atlantic. This is a first class establishment. Look no further should you decide to spend some time in Essaouira, which is much less hectic than the bigger tourist spots, at least in early April just after Semana Santa.
