Not so wonderful
I followed the tripadvisor reviews which where enthusiastic... but travelling trough Portugal during two weeks, I think it was the last place I would recommend ! The staff is not friendly at all (you can say hello in the morning, nobody wil answer...). The room was small and the double bed was a twin in reality (two single make a double, ok, but what about the sheets ?). The bathroom, where there was also the toilets was separated from the room with a window panel... great for your intimacy ! Hopefully the hotel is very central and the... more
Nice and Simple
Very nice hotel. Great Location. Restaurants VERY close by. Shopping district close. Breakfast was nice. Rooms were clean/comfortable. AC worked great. Would definately recommend this place and stay there again myself.
Disappointing
Based on the reviews on this site I booked my stay during Euro 2004 here. I was disappointed. They were generally unhelpful-it took 3 days and countless requests for them to fix the remote and tv in our room. We had a street facing room so it was VERY noisy til the early hours-it didnt help that the hotel workmen started banging away at 8am each morning.
Loved It!
My husband and I also stayed here during the Euro 2004. This was my third trip to Lisbon and I would say that this hotel was the best of the three hotels we've stayed in. I have previously stayed at the Hotel Metropole and Hotel Splendid. The Hotel Metropole comes in a close second, but for value for money, you can't beat the Florescente....especially if you do pay 80 Euros a night for the renovated rooms. Location is great...near the metro, just off Rossio Square, plenty of good restaurants on the doorstep and there are two... more
Worth persevering
When contacting the Florescente you may run up against the problems noted by one of the reviewers. Stick with it. Don't try in the evening when the night porter is on - in our case a reproachful e-mail got the required fax - and the Florescente does prefer faxes. It was worth the struggle. Don't be put off by the shabby stair carpet. The rooms are clean, cheap and, despite the very central situation, quiet. The central situation could not be better. Ideally placed for exploring almost any part of Lisbon, it's in the perfect street for... more
Excellent Choice
We decided to have a break in Lisbon on the spur of the moment and chose Residential Florescente after reading reviews on Trip Advisor. What a great choice. We booked directly with the Hotel - 70 Euros for a suite although more of that description later! Their response to my various e-mails was almost instant and when enquiring of the best method of transport from the airport to hotel, they said that they now have a pick up service. Sure enough on arrival, there was a lovely new Mercedes to carry us to the hotel at no charge. RF is... more
The cleanest rooms
Rooms were spotless, location was very good, very accessible, breakfast though... was decent, but predictable. But all in all, a very very excellent small hotel.
Recommendable
Our room probably was the smallest of the hotel ( I am a little bit jealous of the folks with the spacious room and the view of the castle) but for 45 Euros including breakfast (in February 04) Residencial Florescente is highly recommendable: centrally located, clean, relatively new bathrooms (there is enough hot water from the shower) and the beds were not too bad. There might be little difficulties in booking we booked two rooms per mail but there was only a reservation for one room - anyway the man at the reception (cool is the right... more
Sorry about the previous folks. Great hotel!
My sweetheart & I stayed 7 nights early February. Spacious sixth floor room, view of the castle, huge modern bathroom, 60 euros per night! (we were allowed to shop all available rooms when our 1st floor room on the initial night proved too noisey). Carlos at the front desk is cool and efficient. Nice breakfast room, but have to agree the coffee is deplorable (cut it with the hot water & it's OK). Elevator is fine, and they seem to be doing constant renovating/upgrading. The hotel is on restaurant row, but there are so many cool places to eat... more
Wish I could share your views......
After 3 faxes, two e-mails and 5 telephone calls (3 in Portuguese) we failed to get the Florescente to respond to our request for a booking for 6 people. So I regret we will never get to find out whether it is really as good as every one says!! I wonder if it is about to change hands and that is why they were unable to confirm whether they had rooms available or not.....???
