Rebak Island Resort - A Taj Hotel

If like us you are on your honeymoon in Langkawi this is the worst place to be. We were told it was a five star resort hence we paid 5 star prices. Only this is recognised as 4 star in Malaysia and only matches up to 3. If u expecting a long sandy beach, well you're in for a surprise. you can walk from one end to the other in less then a minute. We stayed at the Rebak Island Resort for 5 days from Dec 17th to Dec22 2007. We were on our Honeymoon. The Rebak is away from the main island and the only way there is a 15 min ferry ride. You have the whole island to yourself. So if you are on your honeymoon or just want a quite getaway this is a really nice place. Location is really great. this was a family vacation and the hotel made it even more memorable ....from the start (the Jetty) everything was handeled so nicely....the rooms the pool and specially the staff was amazing .i can understand how some1 can dislike the place ....the only thing i did not like was the beach is was too small and dirty ...rest was too cool

I should have rated it OK but I rate this as terrible simply because it is priced like a 5 Star resort. At that price it is crappy. The potential is immense because of the sheer natural beauty of the place. But the place is in very poor condition.I stayed here in April 2006. The Indian Taj group had just taken over this hotel. So I expect since then some improvements would have been made. The place is 30 min boat ride from the quay on the main island. And the people who pilot these boats go like maniacs. This resort provided just what we wanted - a complete 'chill out' break. The staff could not be more helpfull right from the pick up at the airport (even though our flight was 4 hours late) where we were met by one of the managers, the service in all parts of the resort through to the return trip to the airport. During our 9 night stay we never left the island, though many guests did and used the regular ferry boat. We did see some changes during our stay as the resort is in the hands of new owners. We stayed one week at Rebak Marina Resort (French couple, no kids). Two features advertised by our agent were not true: 1. the jacuzzi did not work, and had not for a while, according to staff (pool is wonderful, no problem there) 2. shuttle boats to Langkawi are not free (only on checkin and checkout), they cost 10 MYR round trip; they are not too frequent either, so we always had to plan all activities in LGW according to the schedule of the last boat of the day or last boat before dinner. The Rebak Marina Resort is quite a delight to those who want a quiet holiday and a spell of romance It is refreshingly a different place and the only resort on a private island on Langkawi. Being an Indian I felt quite at home as it was the only resort in Langkawi which served 'Home ccoked style' Indian food.

Stayed at Rebak in December 2005. If you are looking for a true beach holiday this is not the place to go. The pool is really nice and they are plenty of other activites like tennis, billiard etc. Nice service and ok food. But the beach is with very shallow water during the day. For my next time to Langkawi I will get accomodation on the main island on a long nice strecth of beach. We booked a 7 day break to Langkawi a year in advance, and managed only one night at this awful resort. In the brochure the resort is advertised as 5 star, we would estimate at best 2. The stay got off to a dreary start with the journey to the ramshackled quay where the speed boat service left. This looked more like my dad's shed on his alotment. The buffet food was the worst ever served, the beach is 25 feet wide and 2 feet in depth, but with the sewer pipe in the middle. Swimming meant dodging turds. Our sea view room... more

I can honestly say I cannot find fault with Reebak. The food and service was first class. The pool is a 20 paces to the beach...best of both worlds. If you do not want to exert to much energy this could be the place. We went to Langkawi a couple of times on sight seeing trips but was always glad to get back to poolside (and the pool bar of course). The island has a little wildlife with monkeys, eagles, hornbills and also saw a few monitor lizards.
