Great location, excellent value
from NL1982
Stayed 4 days at the Onix Liceo for a conference at the Fira Gran Via which is a 15 minutes taxi ride away. The location of the hotel is excellent: just 100 metres from the famous Ramla and Place Reial and very close to the seaside (not beach) and Place de Catalunya is also within walking distance. Plenty of taxi pass by (they are extremely cheap in Barcelona compared to other European cities) and I also saw a metro station within 200 metres distance. The hotel is refurbished (modern style) and the rooms clean (no frills) with walk in...

Rudest hotel manager ever encountered
from MemberGuildfordUK
The Onix Liceo is a newly refurbished hotel in Barcelona. The rooms are well designed and reasonably nice and the bathrooms have excellent walk-in showers but no bath. My visit on Sunday 2nd November 2008 was ruined by the fact that the hotel denied that I had a booking when I arrived. The front desk clerk was very polite but the night manager was the rudest and most unpleasant hotel employee I have ever come across. It was too late to find alternative accommodation. I was made to pay for my room a second time and was denied access...

great!
from B5star
We stayed at Onix Liceo for three nights and had a great time. Even though the hotel is near a really bustling area and is quite busy at night the hotel is quiet and relaxing. Hardly saw any other guests!! The decor is very chic and stylish. We had a basic double room and it was very clean and comfy. The maid service was excellent and reception staff helpful and welcoming. We didn't have breakfast and weren't up early enough to see it so can't comment on that. Any earlier review claims that the area is too dodgy.....we too...

Best Bargain in Barcelona
from Eleanor26
We arrived in bustling Barcelona and walked from the metro to the Onix Liceo. Okay, so the street isn't that great, but the Onix Liceo is a gem in a strange neighborhood. Far enough from Las Ramblas to be quiet, close enough that you'll never need a taxi. And, if you like British and AUssie pubs, you're in the right part of town. The hotel is modern, very crisp and clean. We were met with English speaking desk clerks and prompt service. Our room was small, but it had a real double bed (not 2 beds shoved together) that was quite...

Clean Modern Hotel convenient for the Ramblas
from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel was booked by a friend for a trip to the Spanish GP. So basically, we didn’t spend much time in the Hotel. The Hotel is very convenient for the Ramblas (south end near the harbour). On arrival, I used the airport bus (4.05 Euros) which takes you to the Place Cataluna – it is then about 10/15 minutes (depending on the number of tourists) walk down the Ramblas and then a right turn. It is a very modern hotel and the room was reasonably furnished (twin beds). However, there was no dressing mirror in the bedroom...

love/hate relationship with this hotel
from reggie2005
I booked a 3 night stay at this hotel as a surprise for my husbands 40th birthday. We were originally checked into a smallish double on the 5th floor with a good sized balcony. I read a recent review stating that the walls were really thin and boy were they!! it felt like the people in the next room were staying with us. The most disapointing thing about our stay was the poor or lack of air conditioniong. The first night was unbearable so the next night i asked the night porter how this could be resolved, he fobbed me off with a suggstion...

Diamond in the (not so) rough
from champduchamp
Ignore the negative reviews. This is a great hotel- reasonably priced, a location which couldn't really get any more central and a beautiful, unusual building. The nearby El Raval neighbourhood (what use to be the slums) is easily avoided- walk 100 metres down the street the hotel is on and you'll be on Las Ramblas. We did take a wander through El Raval, and whilst it is not as picturesque and beautiful as the rest of the city, we didn 't feel threatened. I'd probably compare the street life in Ev Raval to Amsterdam- there are a few...

Great hotel for price and location
from sonjausc
This was a great steal! I read about the Hotel Onix Liceo in Conde Nast Magazine - a quick little write up. This hotel was more than $100.00 less per night than other hotels in the area. The area is fine although they "alley" that it is down looks a little shady. WIth that said - if anyone has traveled around Europe you see the metal coverings to shops that have grafitti on them. When the shops open all of this is gone. The staff of this hotel is excellent. All of them spoke great English - although if you know a little Spanish...

Well I liked it!
from lynnP
OK, I’ll grant you, the neighbourhood’s not great - I was also put off when I my taxi drove along the Carrer Nou De La Rambla - but we arrived from the Drassanes end. It seems a shame to write off the hotel bacause of this. I was staying there on my own, and once I'd established that it was close to the Ramblas and I didn’t have to use the route the taxi took, I felt perfectly safe - after all this is Barcelona not South Central LA. Crime is a fact in most modern cities today, and Barcelona is known for its pickpockets rather than...

Whoa-- super sketchy neighborhood
from crashbpm
Picked this hotel via Conde Nast article on cool inexpensive hotels in BCN. Arrived with my wife and her friend at 1 AM -- didn't even check in. What the Conde Nast article failed to mention is that this hotel is located in an incredibly sketchy neighborhood -- cheap dive bars, drunk (and rough) looking characters on the streets, and prostitutes on the corner. I have lived in some marginal areas and am not afraid of exploring and staying in areas that aren't totally developed -- but this felt UNSAFE. My wife grew up in NYC in the...
