Great hotel, shame about noisy road
from BezzaWilson
Just returned from 5 days stay at the Melia Palas, and based on previous reports, couldn't wait to try the breakfasts. Pleased to say they lived up to expectation, suberb, could not have wished for anything more. Surprised and dissappointed that no-one mentioned the busy road and traffic noise. We were not there to lay in the sun, just as well as we had rain for 2 days, but if thats what you are seeking this hotel is not for you. Pool and sundeck on 1st floor face the road and the traffic noise is non-stop. Still a super hotel though.
Balcony Views and Location make this place

We stayed at the Melia Palas Atenea at the end of March 2007 for a long weekend away. The hotel is situated about a 20 minute taxi ride away from the airport. Expect to pay about 20 to 25 Euros for the taxi. If you don't have a lot of luggage there is the number 1 bus service that heads along the coast road and will drop off about 30m away from the hotel for about 4Euros. Located right in the middle of the harbour road crescent the views from your balcony (if your room faces outwards) are stunning. The lines of yachts stretch out towards the cathedral in the distance, the cathedral is lit up at night. Hotel lobby was empty and check-in was therefore swift and easy. New elevators where you press your floor button on the outside were really fast and efficient - I'm sure we didn't wait more than 10 seconds for a lift during our whole stay. The rooms are large and well equipped including a small TV and a minibar that was not overpriced. The kit provided in the bathroom was more than I've seen elsewhere and was replenished each day - comb, shaving kit, sewing kit, dental kit, make-up kit and the usual toiletries. The room rate didn't include breakfast so we just headed out along the harbour path to get a coffee and something to eat in the mornings. Plenty of bars and restaurants are located nearby in fact there's no need to trek into Palma central for a night out if you don't want to. A taxi from the front door into Palma central will cost about 5 Euros or you can stroll into town stopping off at the many bars along the way! The hotel is also located less than 10 minutes walk from the conference centre. Palma itself was impressive; I found it cleaner, cheaper and friendlier than Barcelona with a better selection of shops all close together. The cathedral takes your breath away! Well recommended for a touch of luxury on a short break or business trip.
One Night of Luxury
from MrandMrsSky
We have just returned from an (enforced) extended pre Christmas break in Palma. Due to the cancellation of our flight home we found ourselves needing one nights accommodation. We had seen this hotel during our stay and also on a previous visit to this wonderful city and thought it looked a good place to stay if we ever went back. We were not disappointed. We walked in off the street with all our luggage and were greeted with courtesy and efficiency bar non. The lobby area was well appointed and an absolute haven. The receptionist was most kind and helpful and soon had us checked in to a room with partial sea view. The room was clean and comfortable and had a lovely bathroom. The general decor in the room could have done with a little updating - settee, cushions etc. Breakfast was a lavish affair with everything you could possibly ask for the likes of which I have only ever seen in 5* hotels in Asia. We had joined the loyalty programme at check in on the advice of the receptionist, so breakfast didn't cost an arm and a leg either. (partner eats free) The only other facility we needed to use was a computer, the ones in the reception would not work so we used the one in the business centre - a comfortable well lit quiet area. The location of the hotel is directly across from the marina and an easy walk (15 mins) to the centre of Palma. Our checkout was as seemless as check in. We will certainly strongly consider staying here for the duration of our next trip to Palma.
I never tire of this hotel

I've been staying at this hotel infrequently over the last 20 years including two Christmas holidays in 2002 and 2003. I have just returned from a 3 night break, my first visit since Christmas 2003 and I am delighted to see that standards are being maintained. The opulent and spacious lobby encountered on entering the hotel is a wonderful introduction and a comfortable area to linger. As long as you have a room at the front of the hotel (which attracts a supplement) then the view is superb and at any time of year, you can sit out on the balcony and look over the Bay of Palma. Rooms are large with doubles having 6' beds (admittedly made from placing 2x3' mattresses side by side) and have plenty of hanging and working space. The toilet is in a separate room off the bathroom which makes it easier if two people share a room. The hotel is spotless throughout with room cleaning being particularly good. As other reviewers have mentioned, the breakfast buffet is one of the most varied I have ever encountered anywhere in the world and with the good quality sparkling wine available in limitless quantity, it is difficult not to end up having to have a snooze straight away. Some minor niggles: 1. There are about 40 channels on the television but the only ones in English are Sky News, CNN and Fox News. In these days of worldwide satellite television, and with a fairly large number of English guests then one would have thought that they would try to make more English language channels available. 2. The room decor is starting to look a bit 1990s, especially the settee and cushion covers and maybe a limited update is due. 3. The pool terrace area is open all year although the pool bar is not open during the winter. Guests still sit outside and use the sunbeds etc. I have noticed (not only on this occasion) that the standard of cleaning in this area is not up to that in the rest of the hotel during the winter months. For example the tables seem to be cleaned infrequently, the sunbeds are not always put straight at the end of the day and I even saw a newspaper left on one table which was still there 24 hours later. Apart from those minor gripes, this is one of my favourite hotels anywhere and I would not hesitate to recommend it.
Best Service, Fantastic view and Location. Sumptous Buffet Breakfast
from Jessica
My husband and I stayed at this hotel for three days in October. The hotel is in a fantastic location opposite the marina, with fantastic views of the marina, luxury yachts e.,t.c. As I stay in a hotels a lot, and do not accept shoddy treatments or rooms, I cannot find one single fault or problem, and I can be very picky, because I have stayed in some of the best hotels worldwide. We had a nice large room with a balcony and view of the Marina. The room was very clean, the bathroom was large and had a very good power shower over the bath. I think the only reason the hotel is a 3* must be because the building is not brand new, but the service is 5*. The staff could not do enough for you and they were fully booked. BREAKFAST - This is a champagne breakfast. If you are going to have breakfast at all, this is the place to have it. The breakfast is amazing, starting with a glass of Champagne. You can only compare this breakfast to the ones in Las Vegas or Orlando, It was that fantastic. The weather was good and the hotel was close to two shopping centres, cant remember their names, but both had Zara clothes shop e.t.c, and all other top designer boutiques where we bought bags like Gucci, Fendi e.t.c for a third of the price in UK. For anyone who likes Zara, it is a third less than UK. One word FABULOUS
Excellent Hotel

We stayed for three nights (Thurs. Fri. Sat.) recently in a Junior Suite at this hotel. The suite was very reasonably priced at £120 per night, had as many toiletries as you wanted and was kept spotlessly clean. We were given one on the top floor (room 818) with two (yes two!) separate balconies, both of which had fabulous views of Palma Bay and the marina. Throughout our short stay, the staff were courteous, friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them. On two nights we ordered room service and an excellent meal was brought up by a smiling waiter. It may be true that the hotel is becoming a bit dated in terms of decor, but the location and the first class staff more than make up for any such minor shortcomings. We shall certainly stay here again. Very highly impressed by the stay.
Melia Palace Atenae
from DesperateHousewife3
Stayed at Melia Palace in August 2006. It is a great hotel. Dont be out off by the tiled brown 70s exterior. We used to lie on our fabulous bath chair type sun loungers, overlooking the harbour and spend mindless hours contemplating and designing its re-furb. It gives one something to do in between applying the factor 15 and downing chapters of Piers Morgan's inside story of a tabloid editor. Even now 2 weeks later I have withdrawels for that fabulous sun terrace... The breakfast is a gorgeous array of beautifully presented food and certainly worth risking a heart attack for. There is even bucks fiz to get your day off to a fine start... The maids all wear cute uniforms that would not be out of place in Paris in the 50s...I wanted one to bring home! A uniform not a maid. The concierge and bar staff are fantastic. I think the main man on reception is still looking for my bikini bottoms that fell off the balcony. They were never found but not for the want of his searching. The reception staff are all great fun and all very professional. If you want to be spoiled then treat yourself to a week here. We extended our trip from 7-10 nights just because we could not miss that breakfast. We had no probs getting a sun-lounger.....there was no mass enslaught of any nationality hogging loungers or getting up at 7am to put towels on the loungers ... Whilst in Palma book at the airport to visit PURO beach club for the day. It was outstanding.....Expensive for a day lazing in the sun but beautiful and I bet you are worth it. That said you cant go far wrong lazing on the sun terrace of the melia palace.... Not much cafe bar nightlife in Palma for the over 40s after 12. Not too much of a problem though because you dont want to stay out too late and miss that breakfast. We went to the bull fight. I am not going to say too much about that its a very individual decision. It was booked through the hotel and we had a bizarre experience of being on a coach full of russians with only a russian speaking guide. This may have freaked some less relaxed holiday makers but my companion and I and a lovely swedish lady who was also on the coach thought it was hilarious and also added to the evening. If you do go and it happens to you then you will find the coach where you left it and you just have to scramble in and sit anywhere... Apparently russian for bull is torro anyway.... We also had the treat of all the matadors in their lycra in the hotel reception before the spectacle...... Felt fonder of them before the fight than after! Was pleased to see one return with only half of his lycra... ole to the torrro!!
great location

Recently returned from Melia Palas Atenea after a very enjoyable four nights. Staff very helpful and had a nice side sea view over the marina. Only down side was the number of Germans who seemed to take over the pool area with no consideration for the other sunbathers. Weather was excellent and would recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Palma.
Great Hotel, good location, good value for money

Just returned from a three night break at this hotel. Staff couldnt do enough for you. Rooms were clean and comfortable and had excellent soundproofing as couldnt hear a thing from neighbours. Choice at buffet breakfast was out of this world. 15 min walk to centre of Palma but lots of shops and bars on way. If not wanting the exercise catch the number 3 bus from the rear of the hotel for a euro each. A five min bus ride takes you in to town. Amazing views from rooftop pool area. Would definitley use this hotel again.

I just did my check out this morning, I spent almost 30 minutes at the reception just to realize they charged twice the account to my credit card, then I called the supervisor of Guest Service and "Quality" to ask for a Taxi, because I was late to my flight because of them... more
