I stayed her with my 20 year old daughter, great hotel and great location for restaurants. Just a lazy holiday by the sea(like the idea of your own sunbed which they reserve for you for the duration of your stay). Short walk into town for strolling along the prom. Lovely people, great holiday, definately recommend. Would not pay extra for sea view as you are only in the room to get showered and changed.

We have just returned after a fortnight in Paphos, at the Alexander the Great. The hotel is excellent with a high standard of accomodation. We opted for B&B arrangements as we like to eat out each night, but we did take in a couple of hotel meals.
The public areas i.e. reception, lounge, bars, pools etc are all of a very high standard. Our advice would be to opt and to pay extra for sea view rooms. The hotel backs onto a pretty busy main road and at night boy-racers and motorbikes like to make lots of noise. In addition there are a couple of music bars/clubs nearby that like to belt out the music late at night. The sea view rooms get you away from all of that. The sea views are stunning, especially the nightly sunsets over the harbour. Well worth paying the extra for views and peace.
Staff are polite and attentive. Because its such a nice hotel, some of the prices are a bit silly. Drinks and food from the pool bar are pricey as is using the mini bar. Lots of shops, cafes and restaurants over the road can supply at much cheaper costs.
Paphos is a lovely resort, with something for everyone. A good base from which to explore or to simply chill out. Lots and lots of quality restaurants to chose from varying from local cuisine, Italian, Tex Mex, Chinese, Japanese, Indian etc. Something for everyone in the food department. Car hire was cheap and available locally.
The beaches in Paphos were a little dissapointing even though blue flag etc, still thats just a minor gripe. Watersports on offer were good.
If we have a minor grumble about the hotel its that its not very child friendly. Inflatable are not allowed in the pool, nor isjumping in etc. Thats just a bit of a problem for the younger guests but the other hotel qualities more than make up for that. In summary a great holiday in a great hotel.

We have just returned from one week Bed and Breakfast at this Hotel. Together with two other relatives, we opted for B & B in order to dine out every evening in Paphos which is home to so many fine restaurants.
The Hotel , architecturally is imposing. The reception area is beautiful and the outdoor pool area is very nice. There is also a Pool Bar where drinks and snacks are available. The rooms, particularly with a sea view to the front, are comfortable and adequate.
The room chamber maid service is extremely good, with daily changes of linen and toiletries, by a smiling friendly staff. The majority of the waitresses in the dining and bar areas are from eastern european countries, with a limited understanding of English and whilst they work extremely hard dashing around; they look very tired and at times you have to wait a long time to get their attention. Breakfast offers a superb range of menus, but our experience, when ordering Tea was that it was mostly cold.
The Hotel has an entertainment officer,who is a charming young man, but I found this aspect to be a little like Butlins, or as I imagine it to be.
Another disappointment for me is that the Hotel is frequented by SAGA clients, who even have their own lounge with free drinks available. I found the number and ages to be a little too much. The Hotel is not for those with young children, or indeed for younger minded people.
Whilst I enjoyed the facilities, I would not return to Alexander the Great. !!

I have today returned from a memorable holiday in the Alexander the Great Hotel. I was impressed by the entrance and lounge area. Our room was very clean and comfortable and was checked throughout the day. The staff were excellent and very attentive. We had a meal one evening in the Garibaldi Italian restaurant. Were were advised to book but on the evening we went we were the only customers all evening. We were made to feel very special. The chef came to see us before and after the meal which was excellent if a little pricey. Paphos is spoiled a little by the "Timeshare Touts" along the harbour who unfortunately mostly English. The first we encountered was a young girl who gave us discount tickets for the local store. We were then taken to the store which in fact turned out to be a very lengthy time share presentation. We felt a little silly as were were taken in but have no problem saying NO. On leaving the presentation were were told not to go to one again as were were wasting there time Cheek!! Overall we have had a very good holiday and would have no hesitation recommending the hotel

I stayed here a while ago with my family and we had the best holiday ever. I can't fault the place on anything at all. The staff were very helpful and we had a lot for them to deal with as we were there for a family wedding. We ended up staying in in the evenings as I don't think there was a better view than that from the terrace to see the sunsets. It was nice to have the local hotel cats roaming around the grounds and we made friends with a particular local cat who was pregnant at the time, they were all lovely and not badly behaved at all. I think we all enjoyed the place the more for their presence as it makes it feel a bit more relaxed, even though its so very immaculate and shiny inside.
Also, had one of the few hotel lobbies ever that I have sat and socilaised in voluntarily. It was luxurious but welcoming.
Only ever issue we had was the lack of CD's in the lobby. Mainly played Micheal Bolton but we had a word and they broke out the compilation CD's. I think the staff were as glad as we were really.

My wife and I have just returned from a lovely week at this hotel. It fully merits it's 4-star rating (although I have a healthy respect for this often arbitrary scoring system). The breakfast buffet was very good, with a wide variety of different European breakfasting scenarios catered for. The hotel was very clean and professionally run, and definitely exists at the top-end of the market, with some mild dress codes for the public areas.
We did, however, have one gripe which prevented me from giving 8 as a score. Our room, with a semi-sea view, was very clean and comfortably furnished, and well serviced every day. It was, however, uncomfortably warm during the day, and at night became stiflingly hot. Each room has air-conditioning as standard, but we discovered that it was set to 'fan-only' with no cooling (or heating) facility. We did ask at the front desk about this, thinking that it was a fault with our room alone, but were informed, curtly (not rude, I stress, just a little abruptly), that during the Cypriot 'winter' the hotels air-con was switched to 'Neutral', so that no temperature control was available.
Now the weather while we were there was very pleasant and warm, low 60s, in fact, a pleasant english summers day really. The heat in the hotel we felt was intrinsic to it, and not really influenced to a great degree by the outside. Anyway, the upshot of all this was that we were obliged to sleep with the windows open, and as a result, in spite of the application of a powerful insect repellant, we both were subject to mosquito bites. I have in excess of 25 on my body as I speak, and my wife has a similar number. I felt that our concerns were not addressed, and we felt that if the rooms are advertised as fully air-conditioned, then that is was we should have had. It's surely about choice- the choice to activate climate control or not, as you see fit. It did cast a little bit of a shadow on what was a lovely break.

This was the best holiday I have ever had, the resort is fab for a lively night out or a quite night. The beach is nice everything is great, with water sports nearby. Just a great family resort and the hotel was really pretty.

I recently got married in Paphos and myself and my wife stayed at the Alexander hotel where we also held our wedding reception. From the moment we arrived we were treated like royalty. We were given a full sea view room at the top of the hotel with a balcony that was too big to describe and had its own gazebo and sun loungers on it. The hotel had champagne on ice along with a box of sweets waiting for us in our room, all the staff were very friendly and always did what you asked of them.
The breakfast buffet every morning was lovely and you have a huge selection of food to suit all tastes. The hotel has its own beach as well right in front of it, the outdoor and indoor swimming pools are excellent. For our reception the hotel provided an excellent selection of foods and the night was just brilliant!!!!!
I would recommend this hotel highly if you are getting married and I will definitely be making a trip back in the near future.

When you first arrive in reception you can't help but be impressed. You are invited to take a seat and complete your details at your leisure whilst your bags are whisked away to your room.
The rooms are nice although we knew when we arrived that we would get a side view - could see both the sea and the main road. It wasn't a problem, we don't sit on the balcony much anyway, but the road is noisy. There are double doors and great air conditioning which meant that we slept soundly and were not affected by the noise.
I was mortified on the first night when we found cockroaches in our room on the 3rd floor! We rushed down to reception and they dealt with it immediately. Put us off for a few nights but then we forgot about it.
Breakfast is excellent but the roaming cats can be a bit of a pest, some guests do feed them despite being asked not to.
The sun bed allocation system is fantastic, there are loads of them, covering a fair bit of land but they are fairly cramped together. Just means that you get friendly with your neighbours! If you see another spot you would rather have and it becomes vacant, then the pool attendant is always happy to change you.
Waiter service around the pool during the day really helps with complete relaxation as does the excellent spa and health and beauty treatments.
We had older teenagers with us who found the short walk to Bar Street easy and enjoyable. There are lots of nice restaurants and bars close by if you chose not to have half board.
It’s a nice hotel and a good experience.

I got married at the hotel during a 2wk stay and only had one fault with the hotel during my stay.
During our holiday it rained for 4 days and during this time the only activity for my 20 month old son was the indoor pool, which was heated, however the hotel had the doors around the pool open allowing the rain and wind to blow in.
They do have a kids club for over 2 year olds which looked great if he had been old enough.
The hotel is for older people or couples wanting a relaxing break and I would stay at the hotel again with older children only. The hotel is ideally situated as we had friends staying at different hotels either side of us the harbour is approx 15 minute walk from hotel.
Breakfast at hotel was very nice and the only other meal we ate at the hotel was our wedding meal which was perfect.
They did leave a bill in our room for the mini bar which we had not used however when I advised reception they simply removed the charge without question.
I stayed in a full sea view room which was lovely however I do not think the rooms at the front of the hotel would have been very nice with a main road as the view from your balcony.
