We stayed here for 3 nights as a city break. Although the room was on the ground floor, the outside noise didn't really bother us at all. The room was clean and bed was nice and firm but the pillows were a bit rubbish really, the shower lacked much power, and the lighting was a bit dim. The hotel is very close to the sea front and there is an excellent bar serving very, very good food just round the corner. Very close to Las Ramblas and within walking distance (30mins) of Sagrada Familia etc. Although the hotel was okay, we... more
Marvellous Medinaceli hotel
The hotel has an excellent location - a corner away from the action at Ramblas and just across the road from the Acquarium and the shopping/restaurant complex Maremagnum. The staff were extremely helpful and polite - nothing was too much trouble for them. The breakfast buffet was plentiful and good with a good variety of stuff on offer, from chorizo sausages to salmon to churros and hot chocolate. I would recommend this hotel and would return
Good location, okay hotel
We (three adults from the same family) stayed here for two nights in December 2007. The hotel is in a very good location, a short walk from the bottom of Las Ramblas and the metro station which is located there. The desk staff were friendly and efficient, and spoke passable English. Our room was modern, clean and comfortable, but a bit cramped for three people. Our rate included a breakfast buffet, served in a rather spartan room in the basement -- nothing special, and if you can get a room-only rate I wouldn't bother with the... more
Good location
Hotel is located in the Gothic Quarter of the city. It is a great location in a not too loud area only a couple of blocks from the Rambla. The rooms are pretty small, but clean and modern. I found the hotel to be a little overpriced, yet not outrageous.
New and Modern; Excellent Location
We spent two nights at the Hotel Medinaceli in October 2007. The hotel is located near the bottom of the Barri Gotic, walking distance to the excellent shops and restaurants in the "East Village-y" neighborhood and the more "Soho-y" Born area. We booked online through their website and got a standard room overlooking the plaza for 145 Euro. The hotel was clean and modern and the rooms were spacious and comfortable. The breakfast buffet was good. Overall, we liked the hotel's clean and modern rooms and the central location. On a side note,... more
Great location
Great location but in a nice quite part of Barcelona. Everything was within easy walking distance. We originally had a room overlooking the courtyard but asked to be moved to a room looking over the square which was not so quiet but fresh air a bonus. The staff were more than happy to oblige. Only disappointment was the breakfast not great quaility and we only ate there on the first day after that we did not bother even though included in the price. Overall would reccomend this hotel.
great hotel
We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights in August. As every one has said its in a great location for La Rambles, the Port, beach and Gothic Quarter. The hotel was opened in 06 so the decor is modern and new. The room was a good size with air con and was cleaned every day to a great standard. The staff were personable and friendly. Best part was also how quiet the room was, we were in an interior room but it was well worth missing out on a view because we slept so well, a rare thing at city hotels. Barcelona was fantastic and... more
Great Location
Stayed here for five nights and had an overall very pleasant experience. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful - we hired bikes and they had no problem with them being stored in the hotel overnight. Fantastic location - 20 mins walk to the beach, or 10 mins if biking. Placa Reial, Las Ramblas and the Gotic Quarter are just 5 to 10 mins away. Breakfast was actually quite ok - good selection of hot and cold foods and drinks. Decent selection of fruit although the apples looked and felt a little wrinkly. Also, lovely creme... more
Acceptable Hotel-But Not Four Stars
This hotel was acceptable. The most positive aspect was it's location. It is centrally located and many great restaurants, shopping, and cafes are within walking distance. However, the staff was either non-existent or didn't seem to want to be bothered. The shower door was broke; and quite literally, taped together. Also, we had to pay for the hotel safe, which, at other hotels of the same "star" quality, do not charge for that. The rooms were large and clean, however.
Good Hotel - Great Location
My parents, sister (23) and I enjoyed a three night stay at this hotel in February 2006. We had originally been booked to stay at a different hotel near Sagrada Familia. When we got there we were met by the receptionist who advised (in Spanish) that we were being moved to a different hotel. As we do not speak Spanish we are still unsure why we were being moved. We were bundled into a taxi and taken to the Hotel Medinaceli. Having had no idea what to expect we were pleasantly surprised by the hotel. The hotel is very clean and modern.... more
