Fantastic botique hide-away!
We stayed at the La Mansion Inn for almost a week and it was Fantastic! Before continuing, let me give you a bit of background about us. We are almost 40. When we traveled with our parents as kids we stayed in hotels like the Plaza Athenee in Paris, the Dorchester in London, and the Bauer in Venice. When we traveled on our own in college we were on shoe-string budgets and we grew up with Lonely Planet and the Rough Guide and trying to travel on $50 per day. Now, when we have our own money we want to travel where we want to... more
Jungle Paradise
I arrived for my stay at La Mansion Inn ready to experience the raw beauty of the jungle -- my main reason for coming. I have stayed in elegant hotels around the world and would not try to compare them to this small paradise. The experiences are different and the expectations are different. I found the personalized service, food, accommodations, and value to be just right for the setting I picked for my vacation.
Loved La Mansion
We recently spent a week in Quepos, Costa Rica, which was beautiful. What made our trip wonderful, was La Mansion. It is a small, intimate property with everything we needed and wanted. We booked a standard room which was more than standard, it had an iron king-sized bed, private balcony with a view of the Pacific and the rainforest, beautiful artwork in our room, large bath with a blowdryer and iron, minibar, inroom safe, cable TV and fresh flowers in our room daily. Breakfast was included in the price which could be served in our room... more
A dream come true
My wife and I just spent a couple of days in La Mansion Inn, in Manuel Antonio. The way this place has blended luxury, comfort, good taste with the natural beauty of the place is just amazing. This is a place is a must for all of those couples who just want to have a great honey moon or a second, third..... honey moon. Thanks to the place and the staff
Found Paradise!
We stayed at the La Mansion Inn last week and were somewhat apprehensive after reading some of the recent comments. The hotel was recommended by some friends from New York and we had made the reservation almost 7 months ago. What an incredible place! Most of our worries were immediately put to rest upon entering the hotel. In one word "first class", from beginning to end. Upon hearing that it was our honeymoon the American owner sent a bottle of champagne to our suite. The food was delicious and the views are stunning. The unobtrusive... more
wasn't that great!!!
We stayed at La Mansion Inn last weekend. We found the hotel to be very beaufiful and clean, but poorly run. The night staff couldn't figure out how to work my airconditioner, so I basically paid $150 for a hot room. The girl from The Netherlands runs the front desk in the morning, and she was great! She and her staff were able to show us how to work the airconditioning. The staff that waited on us during breakfast was very nice and accommodating. When I thought that everything was going to be okay, the tranformer at the hotel went out... more

I apologize for the air-conditioning units but all of our units are mini-splits and some people find them a little hard to operate. This is not the first time we hear this. All air-conditioners are programmed and re-programmed before check in but sometimes people try to reprogram the control device in the middle of the night and turn the AC lower or higher. Concerning the electricity, from time to time we (and all other hotels in the area) experience short power outages in the Manuel Antonio area. The hotel has a power back-up system which is enough for the lighting system but not for the AC's. Fortunately most power outages last only for a few minutes and are usually not a problem. However in this once case it lasted a few hours before the electrical company had fixed the problem. We regret when this happens but there is little we can do. This is part of living in the jungle but we assure you that the benefits and the beauty of the area far outweigh these little negatives! Harry Bodaan Owner

Feel Like a Celebrity
La Mansion Inn was our first stop during our honeymoon. We've never stayed at an inn before, rather choosing larger "resorts" when vacationing. Staying at La Mansion Inn has opened our eyes to a much more intimate and relaxed way of vacationing. From the moment we stepped into the lobby, we both felt at home. Abby and Rosalie were both so helpful at the front desk when we checked in, booked excursions and needed to know the best restaurants/bars in the area. Our room was beautiful, and the view was breathtaking! (Just like other... more
Nice Hotel, details overlooked
La Mansion Inn has beautiful rooms. We reserved a deluxe room with them and when we arrived were told we were upgraded to a suite. The only problem was that it overlooked the parking lot. It still had a nice view of the ocean and my husband and I were not in the mindset of complaining. We had just driven for hours through the Costa Rican countryside and seen how little most of the people have. We had gotten a huge dose of gratitude for our life and our lifestyle during our stay. In the same respect, however, La Mansion is very... more

A little note abou the crabs. Twice a year when the moon is just right the crabs start their mating rituals. They come from the waters by the thousands and "invade" Manuel Antonio. They have been doing this for millions of years and they are very much part of "living in the jungle". Fortunately this happens only twce a year for a few days and they can be found all over the area. Harry Bodaan Owner

What a disappointment!
We had such high expectations since this hotel is advertised as a five star resort. Most distressing was the fact that unlike the advertised location of "near the beach" we were a $7.00 taxi ride in each direction. Because we had to make this trip 4 times a day (in order to visit the beach, and then to return to town for dinner) it caused us expense and much wasted time and effort. The unpaved road, steep hills, dangerous curves with traffic, and long distance made it impossible to "walk" to the beach as was the offhand suggestion of the... more
Management response from La_Mansion_Inn1

It has taken me a little while to respond because I did not quite know how to respond. Regarding taxi rides, the fee is only 2500 colones or $5.22 to take a taxi to the main beach. One can also walk, which takes about 15 minutes (we have since purchased a van for regulary scheduled transportation the beach). The trail is "rustic" which means it is a jungle trail and we recommend people walk in order to see the wildlife. That is why most people come to Manuel Antonio in the first place. The room in question is brand new and we just opened this new wing in time for the Holiday season. It is true that the door of the bathroom did not close easy as the wood (door) was still fresh and had expanded a little. This problem has since been corrected. It is not true that the airconditioner did not work. The units are all new mini-splits and some people find them a little hard to operate. It is not true that the manager asked these two ladies to write down the complaints. Instead they complained to one of our waiters and that is how we found out about their discontent. When one of the ladies started to insult one of our staff members as being unprofessional I (as a fellow American), asked them please not to "act like the ugly American", and that I thought it was better for us to help them find another hotel. The La Mansion is a very new hotel and we are almost always full. Last year we were the recipient of the True Decadence Award of the prestigious Elite Travelers Magazine (only six porperties in Central and South America won this award). Unfortunately, sometimes we do not meet all our guests expectations because they did not bother to check our web site and our proximity to the beach or were given wrong or incomplete information by their travel agent. We are mainly a couple oriented hotel and we bend over backwards to please our guests. This is the only business that I own and my livelyhood depends on it. The two ladies refused to leave however and told us instead they would contact Trip Advisor. Harry Bodaan Owner

The best honeymoon ever...
We stayed at La Mansion for 6 nights during our honeymoon and were very impressed with everything this hotel offers. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate us and we would return in a minute (if only work didn’t get in the way…). The front desk set up all of our tours for us; Dolphin/Snorkeling Tour, Damas Island Tour and Manuel Antonio Tour with a private guide. We stayed in a beautiful room with an ocean view and balcony that was very spacious, yet intimate for our honeymoon and we had plenty of privacy (which is exactly... more
