Peace and Tranquility
My husband and I stayed at La Cazalla for 7 nights and had a wonderful holiday. We loved the silence in the mornings, the view of the mountains and the warmth of the Maria and Rodrigo (the owners). We ate 4 nights at the hotel and the food was superb. Most of the meals were healthy - if not organic, using local ingredients and all were beautifully presented. Although the weather wasn't great we did have a few mornings out on the terrace and had we been very brave the pool did look inviting. The library had lots of interesting books, the open... more
Perfect
La Cazalla is one of the most beautiful places we have ever stayed. It is not the grandest, or the largest, or the most luxurious but it is a absolutely perfect. We stayed for two weeks and Maria and her son gave us impeccable service, warmth and welcoming. In fact, we spent several days just relaxing at the property with wine, cheese and olives and their beautiful dog 'skinny'.
Lovely place and all previous reviews are accurate!
The location of this very small hotel is fantastic, as previously mentioned it's quite remote, at the bottom of a rural valley (but walkable to Ronda, about 45minutes). I agree with all the previous reviewers - I wouldn't recommend this place for anyone who was a nervous driver or looking for convenience or full service. That said, we spent a full (wet) day in La Cazalla and were very happy with the picnic provided on request to keep us going until evening. There's also an honesty bar with wines, beer, spirits, water, olives etc. Lovely... more
Oasis of calm and serenity
A gem of a place, hidden away at the bottom of a valley down a dirt track with the most wonderful hostess, Maria, waiting to show you round her home when you get to the bottom. (HINT! keep following the blue blobs of paint and have the courage to keep going when you think you must have gone wrong). La Cazalla really does feel like someones home in a valley that time forgot and other than reading (feel free to raid their little library!), bird-watching or walking, there is little by way of entertainment. Still after reading these reviews... more
If you are looking for relaxation..
Just come back from a wonderful 5 nights at La Cazalla. The hotel has only five rooms and we were lucky enough to have the place to ourselves for three nights. Maria the owner is a lovely lady and both her and her son (who does the cooking) stay out of your way. Breakfast is lovely - laid out with two of everything but plentiful- eggs, yoghurt, fresh fruit, museli and bread and homemade marmalade. We felt like we had a private villa with the gorgeous pool to ourselves. You do need a car as i wouldn't fancy walking into town but... more
Luxurious country retreat
La Cazalla is the perfect retreat for self-sufficient travellers who want touches of luxury without stuffiness. Glimpses of antiquity are everywhere: the centuries-old grapevine twining above the terrace, the Moorish-era spring that makes a cool summer hideout, and a Roman-era cobblestone floor in the living room. But there's no skimping on modern comforts either-the spacious, beautifully spare rooms have comfy chairs, delightful Moorish tiled showers, hotpots with a selection of tea and coffee, and mini-fridges. Don't worry about the lack... more
Wonderful Place
I totally disagree with the user below. We stayed here for 3 nights and found the place to be magical. Yes, it is down a 3 km dirt track, and in the middle of nowhere, and they aren't a "full service" hotel (although they will cook dinner and pack a lunch on request), but this is hardly a problem when you wake up at 8am to amazing birdsong and the sound of farm animals in the distance. Nor when you look out of your window and see nothing other than trees, mountains and the most amazing flowers. There is a pool, plenty of terraces and other... more
Fun for Some!
La Cazalla is really only suitable for really keen walkers, who do not want to go out into Ronda in the evenings. It is at the end of a mile long dirt track which did not suit an ordinary car's suspension -4wheel drive would be best. Also the track was both pot-holed and a mud-slide at the bottom because of rain. The rooms are pleasant but do not have proper balconies and lack such comforts as Bathrobes.etcBreakfast was a matter of 'portions' 4 guests so 4 portions of melon, butter, and so on. Bread was similarly rationed. The term 'rustic'... more
