cheap 4day break
5 / 10
Oct 2011, jacx67

we booked a cheap 4day break for 2couples . We arrived at the complex @11am in a taxi from the airport that cost 36euros .We went to check in at reception and the receptionist offered us an upgrade right away so that made us nervous it was 6euros per day for a room bigger than ours or 16 euros per day for an apartment, as we were just staying for 4nights we said it didnt matter. On opening the door of our room i nearly burst out crying n thought that i couldnt stay there it was like a shed with beds in , the paint was flaking off the wall by the bathroom our friends were just the same. I didnt think i could put up with it.The walls were very thin and we could hear the people next door talking as if they were beside us and the man staying there snored every night so loud it was awful. we went to the pool and got our drinks the bar staff were very nice but the snacks were nuts, cheesy wotsits and spam or cheese sandwiches. The restaurant meals were ok sometimes the trays of food came out of the kitchen only warm so i heated mine up in the microwave,im quite fussy but i could always find something to eat.In the bar beside the restaurant they served pizza that was delicios and guests ate them very fast . The activities available were excellent we played crazy golf daily ,boccia, and tennis and the daily cocktail games which were funny competing against other guests . The foot paths around the complex need redone as they were broken and uneven and would be quite difficult for people with walking difficulties . I have asthma and a couple of times i found it difficult to catch my breath when walking up to the restaurant as it was up hill from our room.. The rooms were clean and we got clean towels daily the only un welcome visitor to our room was a little lizard . The beach was quite a few miles away from the complex so you do need a taxi or use the shuttle bus . Overall the break was good its just a shame the accommodation wasnt better. As for going back im unsure if i would but if i did it would only be for a few nights like this time and i would definately upgrade to an apartment

  • Advice: try not to think about your room and enjoy what the complex has to offer

just came back from sun club eldorado last week the views were lovely, staff very friendly and the entertainment team worked really hard. wouldnt return though because the food was absolutely terrible i dont expect the food to be the same as back home and i am not fussy about trying new things but i found the food unedible and so did the rest of my family. we went into arenal every day for breakfast and lunch because my 2 children would have starved otherwise.

Just returned from a Mon - Fri cheap break from Prestwick. £155 each including transfers and 1 suitcase.
Rooms
Very poor. Musty and worn, although clean enough. Bathroom tiny but functional.
Beware basic rooms are tiny with little outside space. Superior rooms have balcony and a lot more space. We went for superior sea view, room 25. These being near the front are located close to the large pool and bar area. Great for getting a beer and taking back to balcony.
There are renovated rooms at a premium, these look lovely. However their location up the top mean that you are quite far away from the nearest bar and entertainment areas. Good for small children however as kiddy pool, mini golf and waterslide are near to hand.
Couples or singles better with superior sea view.
Bars/Entertainment
Not all bar areas open yet as it early season, resort lovely and quiet and no queue's at all at any time of day or night. Happy to serve you several drinks at once, although small plastic cups only. hey ho, its free. Barmen will mix u any combination you wish and there are cocktails available.
Saw a 'Grease' show, the usual 2* stuff, but fun enough for families
Food
Very good for a 2 star resort, had worse. Always hot, and very clean. Beer and wine on tap.
Alltogether
A great cheap break, so long as you can put up with very 80'ish Butlin like rooms. The resort makes up for it.
Mainly French and Germans at this time of year, and I understand it used to cater for the German trade. We actually prefer this mix, rather than tonnes of union jack towels. (no need to put towels down in morning..tonnes of beds). Heard the usual odd brit moan about Germans etc, but they were the ones who stuck out and looked silly!
Going back, but not at the peak of season as I can imagine it would be a bit hectic then. Book now, and enjoy...

we were here in may 2010, and first few hours i was unsure, but we had a great week the kids loved it.
sure the bungalows are basic but only what you get everywhere else, it was clean and was ample kids had bunk beds we had a double, sofa, dressing table, bathroom, to be honest we dont spend time in the room anyway can do that at home. the food was good but we eat a variety of food and are certainly not looking for english food. should your children not eat varied food they have a table with nuggets an chips etc, the bus stop couldnt be closer and the beach is great.we spent our time at pool up by the apts it was quieter and better for the kids we have just re booked and go again in may cant beat that price for what you get. entertainment excellent ive never been anywhere that has shows everynight its what you make of it its a holiday enjoy

Holiday From Hell

Sep 2010, English People

When we booked this holiday it was ment to be disabled friendly, but to our horror it was on Mt Everest!!
We stayed in what I can only call a donkey shed.... Our sink in the kitchen had no taps as they were cemented up.
From our balcony it looked like Maplins (Hi De Hi).
The snack bar at the bottom pool, had wasps and flys over the food and it was all cold.
I ate only once at this hotel as the food was awful and we called it the Ecoli bar.
We met only 3 english people in the 11 day stay there and one paid £140 to get a flight home early.
The only good thing about the hotel was the staff as they were very friendly!
My advice dont touch with a barge pole this hotel!!!!

Aug 2010, Disappointing

After arriving at the hotel at about 1.30am we were shown to our bungalow. I cannot tell you how upset we were. It was like a cave. Dark, old furniture and basic . The bathroom was big enough for a baby. There was a little lock on the door to the little veranda that could be booted open. We didnt feel safe that night. No one slept. In the morning we complained and asked what the difference was between a standard and a superior room . As we had upgraded. We were told the size. After seeing how upset we were we were offered an apartment for 10 more euros a day. We took it. The apartment had a cooker , fridge , and microwave. A double bed and two setees that turned into two single beds. A very nice balcony and a shower cubicle. If we had the apartment in the first place we would have nothing to complain about but if you book for a bungalow believe me its not like the picture they show. Its a hovel.
The rest of the place is nice. Lots to do for the children. Food brilliant with lots of variety. Staff dont smile much and dont seem very happy. The entertainment team could be better. The whole complex seems to be geared for the french. Lots of Germans and Dutch. The English are out numbered. The complex is out on a lim. You have to catch a bus to the sea or nearest resort. There is no where to go for a walk after your meal. You are limited to what is on the complex. We went for a week and after the initial upset it was o.k But I could not have stood another week. Lots to do for the small children. Mini club great. This holiday is great if you want to get away from a proper resort and dont mind being tied to the complex. Just be aware if you dont get an apartment or book one before hand . The bungalows are very very very basic and not worth what you have paid for. So you will be very dissapointed. This place could be fantastic if they spent a little money upgrading some things.

Best holiday, Its what you make it!

Aug 2010, JACuerden

We came back early August, two families of 3, two single mums two teen daughters and two under 10's.
There was something for everyone.
All the STAFF if you make the effort to talk to them, COULDNT DO ANYTHING MORE FOR YOU. They're multi-lingual very helpful and really try to make you feel comfertable.
The RESORT is mainly German/Dutch/French but the English are welcomed just as much.
All the staff and animation team will speak to you in English as they love learning new languages.
The hotel MANAGER/director was particulary helpful, took us to the airport in the hotel minibus as we would have to have paid for two taxis otherwise.
The BAR STAFF made our holiday. We got the sense that only us, as the only English family, made the effort to talk to them and they loved the banter, didnt want us to leave. We didnt want to leave either.
The FOOD is average and isnt always English delicacies but there wasnt many English so understandable.
ENTERTAINMENT was average but the animation team were lovely and very talented with there languages.
The CLUB opened from 11 and although drinks were priced high, was fun to go to.
The ROOMS are basic and could do with updating but are very clean and we saw no bugs whilst there.
There was a choice of 3 nice POOLS ranging from quiet to busier one where all the reps and animation ppl were. The KIDSCLUB was very well organised like a seperate creche, and the children never wanted to leave. You could tell the childrens reps really enjoyed their job and wanted to be with the kids.

May 2010, Sad

Terrible place im here just now. The entertainment is 7 or 8 students who deal with everything during the day working in shops doing activities then they mime at night to songs and mime when they're speaking. There is a little barman who only shows you customer service if its the same nationality as him. Im fed up playing tennis the students are practising there dancing just now then they work im the cafe. I want to go home. Im missing eastenders.

Just returned home after a great week. Not the hotel's fault that the flight back was cancelled and that one day we were washed out. We wanted to play Tennis and with 4 courts there was never a problem, and we even go a free lesson. We upgraded to a superior room and it was wonderful. The food was plentiful, and although the wine wasn't top grade it was ok. Great friendly staff and the whole holiday was value for money Derek and Valerie

firstly, the customer service in this hotel is fantastic. I have stayed in higher rated hotels that would do well to learn from the staff and management here. The rooms are very basic, but are clean and fit for purpose, and cleaned daily. they do not however have any air conditioning, and although that was fine in October, don't fancy it in July. The all-inclusive food was delicious and varied every evening, the small cakes for dessert are to die for.We had everthing from steak to paella.. lovely. Our group consisted of 3 x 40's a 72 year old, 2 ten year old boys and an 11 year girl, everyone had something to do at most hours of the day. There was, obviously less to do than would be available at the height of the season, but everything is part of the all-inclusive package including shooting archery and even horse riding lessons, tennis coaching and free diving lessons. The entertainment crew were brilliant and the shows they had on every night were funny yet really well done. They invested so much time and effort on us that we felt really special, and everyone we spoke to felt the same. It was a fantastic time for all of us and we could have quite happily spent another week there and we will definately be going back again next october.

  • Activities: we stayed in the sun club and did not venture out because it had everything we needed here already

Don't expect the best accomodation, it's basic but clean. We were lucky to get a superior room which was big so you have plenty of room- two single beds, large sofa, coffee table, bedside tables dresser with chair. Bathrooms small but ok, terrece outside. Its set in lovely gardens with fountains dotted about and the view was good too. Rooms cleaned everyday.
The activities on offer were good (if you like a bit of sport) and free! they have 4 tennis courts, gym, a squash court, crazy golf and horse riding as well as the 3 pools and slide pool. The pools were clean but cold! (oct) apart from the heated pool which was nice and set next to one of the two bars. The drinks were on offer up until 23.30pm and snacks were offered throughout the day. The food was great, a wide selection to cater for all, you'll never go hungry!
A public bus service is avaliable from the resort, which runs every hour or so into Arenal and Palma.
We enjoyed our stay but you need to get out and about for a bit of varity as it can get a bit boring. Shame it's so isolated, would have been nice to take a walk into a nearby village or town but there's nothing near.
It is very geared towards the Germans and us Brits felt it!

When we read the reviews i was a bit worried, however we have just come back from our best holiday for along time. We were treated really well by all the staff who we cannot praise enough. The activities were organised well. The food was varied and fresh. The location is brilliant with fantastic views. The only downside is the challet type accomadation which really needs a big update. Ours was clean, and the maid service excellent, but it sort of reminded me of staying in Billy Bulins old challets. However we looked over the sea, and spent very little time in it, so it did not matter to us. I would recommmend this place to families of all age groups. I would not recommend if you only want british holiday makers as this is mostly a Belgium,Dutch and German resort but everyone speaks French, English, Dutch, German and Spanish. Overall fantastic holiday, and would go back again, Kids very sad to leave.
