Perfect Wedding
I got married March 26th and now feel great because everything got perfect. Feel happy that we had this lucky idea to organize wedding dinner in the restaurant of this cosy hotel Villa Greta in Taormina. In fact we celebrated two days, March 26th with relatives and March 30th - with friends. Nothing was formal, but everything up to the last little detail was made with heart and care. The beauty of the panorama of the sea, flowers and trees in bloom surrounding the hotel, the decorations of the tables and the dining hall, attention of the... more
Feels like you are at home!
My husband and I spent the second half of our honeymoon at this hotel. It's a family owned hotel, simple but quaint and very friendly, it feels like you are at home. We ate dinner at the hotel every night - the food is home cooked (by Elena!) and really delicious! We purchased wine by the bottle and if you did not finish it, it would be waiting for your labeled the following evening. We thought that this gesture is excellent customer service as well as feeling like you are in your own home. The service was friendly and wonderful! The... more
Lovely stay!
Our one-week stay at this hotel proved to be lovely: staff was very friendly and helpful; the room - though smallish - was cleaned every day; dinner was always delicious and the awe-inspiring view of Etna and the coastline made an event out of each meal! Even though a bus shuttle service to a serviced beach is available to each guest, the journey to the beach proves to be rather long - therefore this is not the ideal hotel for a beach holiday. Also, it is a good idea to bring a torch if one plans to return late at night:... more
Not really restful
We stayed a few days in December 2005 but found an alternative in Giardini Naxos and moved. The location is certainly spectacular and the walk back from town OK for the fit. However, the hotel is in great need of refurbishment and understaffed when it comes to things like changing light bulbs. On winter evenings there is nowhere but one's room to sit and the poor light made reading almost impossible. The walk to town involves negotiating stretches of narrow road with no pavement (sidewalk) and braving the Sicilian Kamekazi drivers. the... more
Gorgeous view
We have just returned from a short stay at the Villa Greta. This hotel is quite basic and badly in need of some refurbishment however the breathtaking views and the friendliness of the hotel staff makes up for all the drawbacks. The hotel is perched high up on a hill and apart from the long walk from Taormina centre there are also quite a lot of stairs in the hotel itself (no lift). There are two entrances, and you can easily catch a bus or minivan from the top entrance as the stop is exactly near the hotel. We found the minivans very... more
The view is to die for
Absolutely breathtaking view of the sea and Mt Etna from large terrace with tables, chairs, lounge chairs. But you work for it. It’s a steep 15 minute walk from town. But worth it. Usually I prefer to be in a more central location so I can pop back to the hotel frequently. Given the walk, I didn't do that very often. But you can't get that view from the center of town, and it really was magnificant. To wake up in the morning and see that, I would have walked twice as far. Free gated parking. No lift and lots of stairs. Room was quite... more
Beautiful view, nice garden, and that's about it
This hotel has a very beauful view both day and night and a great garden. However... One night we discovered pieces of broken lightbulb under our sheets. Luckily nobody got hurt. The personnel didn't seem to be impressed but they did help us change our sheets. We eat dinner in the hotel once. Our 4 y/o daughter complained that her pasta was too spicy I tasted it and she was right: there were chilli peppers in it. When we complained the waitress said that it was "not possible". She did replace the pasta and the second serving... more
Like waking up in a eagles nest!
The Villa Greta is not for the feint of heart or weak of leg. There are many sets of stairs down narrow halls but the views are worth it. The staff is friendly and most speak english. They mainly cater to German tourists. The rooms are quaint and clean but the showers are very small. Even the moderately large person might have to settle for a sponge bath. The balconies overlook Mt Etna and the sea. Breakfast is excellent! We can't wait to go back!
V. Good Food
As part of a group of 12 people on an independent holiday, we stayed at the Villa Greta for three nights April 2004. The hotel has superb views over Taormina and Mt Etna (although it was cloudy all the time for us). The rooms were "cosy" but certainly ample, and the staff were delightful. Eleanor and her brother spoke very good English and were very helpful. They organised a minibus to bring us from the station to the hotel which was certainly worthwhile, as taxis would have been very expensive. We had the pleasure of staying on the... more
Lovely
We only stayed one night, but wished we could have stayed longer. Villa Greta is a family run hotel, with excellent views of Taormina and Mt Etna. They have a vinyard, and the red produced there is most refreshing. Our room (& I think most of the others) had its own terrace area. We had lunch and dinner there. The lunch was a la carte, which was most pleasant, but at dinner there was the "day menu" available, which was excellent. We had home-made ravioli with ricotta and pear, followed by fresh meaty fish with olive tapenade, and a spot of... more
