We arrived very late in the night and were qite pleased in fact to find that we were the only one's going to this hotel which meant we had a coach all to ourselves. On arrival at the hotel the staff at the desk were very helpfull and polite and had us booked into our room in no time and as the hotel is set around 4 different complexes we were shown to our room by a very friendly member of staff. We had booked all inclusive and the food was fantastic. There was plenty of choice and even though it catered mainly for the Germans it was nice to get away from the usuall full english breakfast that you usually find in Spanish hotels. There was a snack bar during the day which offered a good variety of food and ice creams for the kids. The bar was brilliant, the staff were very friendly and most could understand English. It was very easy to get drinks as there were hardly any ques although you were only allowed 2 drinks per time at the bar which meant we had to back to the bar at least 3 times to get the whole family drinks. The room was very clean and we had a brilliant view over the pool and beach below that. The room was very child friendly and the beds were extremely comfy.
The night time entertainment is fantastic for the kids in fact it is the best i have ever seen. Every night there is a mini-disco that my child loves. They get all the children invloved and the staff are incredible with the them. After that the night time shows are very good but again seem to be catered more for the Germans as there were alot there, but the english stick together and it is very easy to make new friends. The beach is a very short distance from the hotel and is very good, there is a snack bar and cafe but you do have to pay a large amount for the sunbeds and extra for the umbrella.
The location around the main hotel is very nice and has a supermarket, shops and a few bars, if your wanting something a bit more exciting though there are regular busses into porto cristo and from there you can go further. The bus fare is very resonable as well.
The pool area in the hotels main complex is very nice but can get quite busy so me and my family ended up in the hotel 'c' pool which was always empty and briliant for the kids to play. It also meant we did not have scrap for sunbeds!
Overall then this hotel and the holiday it offers is fantastic i would deffinately go back and i reccomend it to anyone with a family or for a short break. Even thoughthe hotel is centered around the Germans you are not over looked and a great deal of care is put in by the staff to ensure you have a brilliant holiday.

The hotel is spotlessly clean and very nice, it is not geared up for English people at all the staff hardly speak English, the bar staff are rude and sometimes refuse to serve the English they will serve Germans first and we had to wait for 15min to get a drink.
The snacks are awful and luke warm the food in restaurant was very poor for a four star hotel, this is not good, the coffee had grease floating on the top.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone our party ranged from ages 15 to 69 there were things for the teenagers to do but not a lot.
The beach is only 5mins away which is very nice and the buses do run frequently and are very cheap. Overall I would say stay away from this hotel if you are English.

Oct 2007, Mrs F Moremon

We went to this hotel with another couple for a no kids long weekend break to celebrate my friend's 40th birthday.
We had read some pretty dismal reviews on the hotel so were expecting the worst. I don’t know where some of these people have been but having travelled extensively in my life staying in 5 star accommodation; I have to say that all 4 of us thought the hotel and its facilities were excellent.
The apartment style rooms were fairly basic but very clean, air conditioned and spacious - ok no tea/coffee making facilities but a quick trip to the local supermarket meant we had milk, coffee etc in the room and the facilities were there to make it.
We had booked bed and breakfast and were really impressed with the choice and quality of the food available and the staff were polite and unobtrusive. The rest of the hotel was spotless and the pool and beach areas were great.
We had hired a car so ate out in the evenings both locally and in Cala rajada - all of which was really great. We enjoyed cocktails at the pool bar but found the nightclub pretty mediocre - bad taste in music and not much of a vibe - but we enjoyed ourselves regardless.
We have decided that in all likelihood we will return for a repeat weekend next year as it really suited our needs. Had the weather not been as good as it was there was plenty to do within the hotel had we needed it and it appeared that if you had children with you the facilities available were super.
So all in all a really great place which we highly recommend!

Just got back from 2 weeks at the Cala Mandia, like some others my husband and I were the only two going to the resort and were taken by taxi in the middle of the night. When we arrived the accommodation had been booked for a day later which meant we were hanging around the hotel until 1pm next day with cases waiting for our room.
We weren't told it was a German hotel, which full of couples with young children, hence every evening the buggy parade through the bar area - so bad they actually caused traffic jams! No English entertainment and TV was German only.
Meal times were horrendous with screaming children, there was no where to get any peace and quiet, certainly NOT a hotel for couples.
We had to resort to eating out, despite the fact that we were all inclusive.
And the Rep - forget it!

Aug 2007, Mr P Smith

We booked last minute to escape the rotten weather and having sealed the deal we then checked out the hotel reviews, there were a few facts wrongly stated including the distance to Porto Cristo (5km not 20) and easily accessible by the local bus which stopped immediately outside the hotel.
Having been a victim of the 1970's craze for Spanish Hotels with my parents and having experienced the inevitable poor food and stomach upsets, I reluctantly booked our holiday to please my family who craved sun and heat. I am delighted to report that my family all enjoyed our week’s holiday immensely and have returned hale and hearty with a good few extra pounds in weight. The buffet style restaurant was excellent.
The hotel was spotlessly clean and the rooms were more than adequate for a family with 2 children. The children were accommodated in the lounge on sofa beds. We were in a ground floor apartment overlooking the pool (the balcony rails are apparently too low for first choice standards to put anyone higher up) and we had no complaints re the room.
The entertainment may have been geared more for the Germans but this did not deter our children from wanting to go to the mini-disco every night and watching the evening show which followed. They befriended children from Germany and Italy and gained a lot from experiencing 'being European'.
The entertainment team and the staff had no problem in understanding and speaking in English and as for some of them being surly maybe we would have an off day too if we worked as hard as the staff at this resort undoubtedly did. The entertainment was international with some excellent shows.
The amenities were excellent, the pools clean, we used the tennis and squash courts and had no problems booking these, we cannot comment on the children’s club as our children did not want to attend but what we saw of it looked very good.
We would recommend this hotel and would definitely think of trying another Insotel Resort.

A very good family hotel. Excellent high standard 4 star hotel.
The food was fantastic, varied, lots of choice and so much to eat and drink!
The hotel grounds are lovely and it is a 2 minute walk to a lovely and very private beach, great for kids.
The entertainment was fantastic and the evening shows were excellent, the insotel team worked extremely hard and really did a great job.
Room were basic but very clean with plenty of space and the shower was good.
My children had a fantastic time and entertainment was great for them, meaning parents can relax by the lovely pool. The indoor pool was also very nice.
There was a lot of Germans here but also quite a lot of English.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and always there.
I would defiantly recommend this hotel and will be booking it again, I went on my own with my two children and had a thoroughly relaxing, and enjoyable week, and I wish I had gone for longer.

Jul 2007, Mrs A Smillie

We had booked Club Mandia because the rep at First Choice said it had everything we were looking for, which was good shops, good kids clubs, daytime and evening entertainment and good food.
Well she got it totally wrong. Firstly, when we arrived at Palma, we were told by the First Choice rep that we were the only family going to this hotel so we had a taxi to take us rather than a coach. An hour later when we arrived at this 4 star!! hotel, we found out that the hotel is split into 4 sections and divided by a very busy road. We were then taken to our room which was in the basement!!! smelt very badly of damp and has no pool view (which we had asked for).
There was no running water in the kitchen area either. We asked reception when we could see the rep, only to be told he was not there on a Saturday and we would have to wait until the following morning to see him. There was only one other British speaking person at the whole hotel, it was full of Germans and the staff were not polite at all.
The entertainment at night was in German or Spanish so the kids could not participate. By the end of the day we had decided we could not spend 2 weeks there and were trying to get flights home but because of the bomb attack at Glasgow Airport we could not get a flight, by the Sunday we were demented to say the least and were waiting for the rep, when he arrived to tell him our problems, he couldn't have been nicer and said to us that we should never have been sent there as it is mainly German people who go to the hotel, we asked to get moved to another hotel or fly home even it it meant not getting into Glasgow.
We were delighted when he checked with a colleague and we managed to get moved to the Holiday Village Can Picafort just outside Alcudia, but not before we had to pay the Hotel a cancellation fee and also the taxi fare to the new hotel, we paid it as it was a small price to pay for getting moved elsewhere. Although the Holiday started off rubbish, we had a fantastic time at the holiday Village. I don't envy anyone who has booked the Club Mandia as I would not recommend it to anybody and don't understand how it is rated as 4 star!!!

Jul 2007, Mr K Innes

I have read the posted two reviews and I can’t understand their thought on this holiday resort.
First of all the room was inadequate for myself and my 15 and 11 year old sons. The hotel was geared for the German holiday makers and not for English holidaymakers.
I had booked 2 weeks in a family English speaking holiday resort and I received a hotel situated in the middle of nowhere the nearest town (Port Cristo) was 20km away.
The entertainment and food were geared for the Germans and I found only one or two staff could speak a little English, so communicating with staff was a non starter.
I certainly would not recommend or visit this resort in my lifetime. A complete waste of money and time.

Oct 2006, Mr K Marshall

Spent the last 10 days of October at this hotel which coincided with the school holidays. The weather was warm and sunny virtually everyday. Still ideal temperature for lazing around the pools and sunbathing. The hotel was nowhere near full to capacity and a number of the many restaurants and poolside bars were closed for the winter. Most guests headed for the main 'A' complex pools, where it was always possible to find sun beds.
The hotel also has sports facilities such as tennis, squash, football, volleyball, archery etc, which were probably much easily available in October than would be the case in summer.
The food in the main restaurants is always buffet style, with a good varied choice. Drinks with the meal are included for half board guests which is a bonus.
The hotel is only a short walk from the lovely sandy Cala Mandia beach which is ideal for kids. There is a beach cafe and snack bar also.
The clientele is mainly German with a few French and Dutch. However since we would prefer to get away from the 'English Breakfast', 'Real English Pub' signs and lager louts that are a feature of many other Majorcan resorts, this was not a problem.
If I had to make a criticism of this hotel it would be that the entertainment and Kids Disco is almost exclusively aimed at the Germans.
Booked this hotel and flights through Expedia which was considerably cheaper than Tour operators and then hired a car from the airport.

This is a very classy 4 star hotel...

Jun 2005, Mr K Wines

This is a very classy 4 star hotel but seeing as the locals call it “little Germany” it’s not surprising the standards are high. There’s not much to criticise here. The entrance is modern, very shiny and welcoming and the reception staff are courteous and efficient.
The complex is laid out over a large area so there is plenty of space wherever you go. Even at peak pool usage we managed to find 6 sun loungers available and space to put them together. There’s even a choice of pools (Area C we preferred).
We stayed on an all-inclusive basis and instead of wristbands we were given a swipe card per couple to obtain drinks or snacks, but only two items per visit to the bar. This is obviously to stop you getting drinks for non A/I guests.
The restaurant seemed to cope easily no matter how busy and the food was excellent. Even though they catered mainly for German tastes, we always had a good choice.
We stayed in one-bedroom apartments that gave plenty of room and the single beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was of a good standard, in particular the shower which was excellent.
The TV however had just 2 English channels: CNN and Eurosport. The rest were mainly German with a couple of Spanish and one French.
The grounds are very well kept in every part of the complex and there is a nice walk down to the small beach.
Inside the hotel, in the bar, restaurant and large lounge, the furniture and decoration were very good and everything was kept so very clean. That was the main thing commented on, the cleanliness in every area. It’s the cleanest hotel any of us have ever stayed in.
For the first few days the bar staff were a bit formal, even grumpy, but as the week went on they realised we were more jovial than their usual clientele and treated us accordingly.
A couple of things we didn’t like:
The entertainment was fine if you were a German child of less than 12 year old. We enjoyed ourselves in the lovely large lounge with a pack of cards and various mixes of spirits.
And,
Our A/I entitlement stopped at 12 noon on our last day and we were not being picked up until 22:45 but complaining got us nowhere. We couldn’t even have an evening meal unless we paid 20 Euros each. We politely declined.
Overall: Excellent
Would we go back? Certainly
