Hotel Urquinaona

This is a small renovated hotel with a personal service and a good restaurant next door, where your breakfast is served. It has a nice informal atmosphere and offers free internet and a good free coffee machine in a small lounge on the first floor. And even a free bottle of Cava in the fridge. It is run by young and very friendly people who went out of their way to help us. It is within walking distance to many sights and the Metro just around the corner. I would definitely stay there again. Very good for the price.

Just back after a four-day break in Barcelona. This was our first visit to the city and we enjoyed our time there. There are plenty of interesting sites to visit and there is a very efficient metro and bus service if you do not feel like walking. We were looking for a clean room at a hotel that was centrally located. That is exactly what we got at Hotel Urquinaona. The hotel is perfectly located between the destination neighborhoods. We were able to walk everywhere. In fact we didn't take the metro once. I definitely recommend this location over Las Ramblas which is overrun with tourists and tacky. I stayed at Urquinaona and was pleased with my service. I was able to practice my Spanish with the front desk and the restaurant next door was about the best restaurant I and my friends enjoyed all around Barcelona. We stayed for about a week and enjoyed every bit of Barcelona. The staff are very courteous and helpful. If I were to come again I would stay at the same place. Location is wonderful! I spent 1 night at this hotel with my parents, sharing a triple room. The staff were very friendly and the room was clean. There's free internet access in the hotel, which meant I could still keep in touch with my friends by email, which was nice. I would recommend this hotel to everyone, and I would happily stay there again.

The location of this hotel could not be faulted - metro on door step, 5 minutes from Las Ramblas, 5 minutes from Gothic area and 5 minutes from main tourist bus stop and shops. It was clean, comfortable and we slept very well (quiet despite being so central). Breakfast was adequate and the coffee ok. Not so clean...We stayed here based on the recommendations of a CLEAN hotel on this web site, but were very disappointed in what we found. Our room was ready when we arrived at 1 PM Saturday, which was nice. It was MUCH more sparse than how it looks on their web site, but there was so much hair everywhere (in the bathtub, all over the bathroom floor, on the room floor, etc) that we soon forgot about that.When we told the woman at the front desk that our room was not clean, she aksed with some amazement "So, you want it to be cleaned... more

This worked out wonderfully. It's not fancy, but it's businesslike, clean, and perfectly located. It's situated in a grown-up part of town, not zooey, but completely citified, a world away from the Ramblas. But it's right on top of the metor station, so you can go anywhere. Our first impression was that the hotel was a lot sparer than the internet photos suggested. However, after staying at two other hotels in Barcelona we realized how clean and comfortable our room was for the money. The location is great - just steps from the metro and a few minutes walk to Placa Catalunya. Ask for a room facing the front of the building. If you want a safe, clean place to stay, this is the place for you. If you want luxury, look elsewhere.
