Hotel Plinio - Just Right
from iliketobike
Great Place! $80 bucks a night for a three-bedroom condo - not bad, a little bit rustic but you are in Costa Rica. The trail behind the lodge to the lookout is fantastic, just do it in the morning before the heat gets oppressive. I recommend swimming in the very nice pool - try it during a downpour! The onsite asian fusion restaurant was fantastic and the staff were very courteous. For a great meal out, cab it to El Avion and eat dinner uder the wing of a cargo plane.
Worst rooms in Manuel Antonio
from bibos
BOOOO!!! Can't speak for all rooms but for $90 a piece the two rooms we had were right on the road, in rooms that appeared to have last been remodeled or even touched up in 1973. With all of the construction going on in Manuel Antonio and the heavy car flow, it was hard to have a conversation outside. The food was ok, the pool was run down. There is a great trail however, behind the hotel that offers magnificent views of Quepos and Manuel Antonio, a very welcome respite from having to be in our hotel and our rooms.
Great way to start our CR adventure

My husband, daughter and I spent two nights at the Plinio over New Years and enjoyed it very much. The three story bungalow was a treat and very comfortable and spacious. We ate dinner at the hotel each night and were very impressed, and the complimentary breakfast was wonderful! Nice pool to cool off in after a long day of driving. Would highly recommend the Plinio. Only drawback was the noise from the road, but well worth it for the experience.
Nice setting with some drawbacks
from loubove
Nicely themed hotel with lots of wood in a lush setting. While the building has passed it's primetime it still has a unique and exotic character. The restaurant has a refreshing selection of dishes, staff is friendly. The room was simple and reasonably clean, good breakfast buffet. the pool could have been a bit cleaner. The real drawback is that most rooms do not have windows but screens only. While this keeps the rooms without AC reasonably cool, there is plenty of noise from the nearby road. Also sound insulation to the...

The Plinio: a great experience!
from NickyBee81
I stayed at the Plinio during my trip through Costa Rica with my dad in March, 2004. I thought it was a great hotel. We had a few, let's say special experiences (i.e. huge bug in the room, just beside the door, that might have gotten in while we were getting our luggage inside). The hotel features a nice trail that leads you to the top of a mountain where you can get a great view of the ocean... Just make sure you listen to the (nice) owner's recommendations and you make it back to the hotel before the sunset, or else you could end up...

pros and cons
from repose
Stayed here two nights over New Year's. The hotel is on the road that leads from Quepos to Manuel Antonio. I enjoyed my stay here, but there were definitely pros and cons. For one, the hotel is built into a *really* steep hill. If you have issues climbing steps you might reconsider staying here. We stayed in the "Jungle House", which is a two-story small home of its own. There were 4 of us, which fit comfortably. You could actually fit 5 because someone could sleep on this large couch type piece of furniture. It was a pretty long way...

Had to Leave
from krislrob
Booked the three story suite on our first trip to Costa Rica last Christmas. Hans, the owner, was very accommodating even when we checked out early. Only screens on the windows and the moon shone down on us at night and we could hear everything from people laughing and talking all night to the road noise which is RIGHT THERE!! I can sleep anywhere, but my husband and I did not sleep all night. We had to look for a new hotel on Christmas Day so our vacation wouldn't be ruined. Unless you bring earplugs and nightshades, I do not advise...

termites, no windows, road noise
from A TripAdvisor Member
I spent two nights at Hotel Plinio in late March 2005. We had a two story suite with a king bed. There are two two-story suites (that sleep 2-3), and four or so three story suites (that sleep 3-4). Our room didn't have AC. (Only the budget rooms have AC.) For $85 a night including 16.7% tax (which includes the 16.7% discount you get for paying cash), we got a room that didn't have glass windows. Only mesh screens. This would have been fine except Hotel Plinio is on a steep hill overlooking the main road to Manuel Antonio --...

Living with the monkeys at Hotel Plino
from adkind
We spent one much too short day and night at Hotel Plinio, just outside Manual Antonio reserve on the west coast of Central Costa Rico. Our specific purpose was to tour the reserve to see monkeys, Spider, White faced, and Howlers. This hotel is situated on the side of a hill in the very tree tops of the forest. The suites were three stories, sitting area and bathroom the first, two sleeping areas on the second, and a screen porch on the upper level overlooking the tree tops. We were so tired when we got to the hotel we took a nap in...

A Costa Rican Jewel!
from A TripAdvisor Member
Excellent Accomadations for large families or groups, however, only the smaller rooms with two beds are air conditioned-The 3 story jungle tree suites complete with large 2nd level balcony and third story view tower are not air condtioned!)Keep this in mind when booking, but, the ceiling fans help and it cools off greatly late at night. Excellent and very friendly staff. Hans(Hotel owner) actually drove us to town when he couldn't get through to call a taxi for us. The restaurant has excellent food(One of the best in the area) and free...
