Perfect location and nice experience
Stayed 3 nights in this small hotel. It's extremely well located next to St. Mark's Square and on the waterfront. A nice and well kept tourist class hotel. The single room I got was small but well furnished and in the annex to the hotel. This is not a disadvantage to get a room in this annex as it's quiet and nice there. I enjoyed my stay and would return to stay there again.
Beware of bedbugs
On first glance the hotel is great, a little run down, but fine. After the second night, my husband and I notice bites on our arms and after some investigation we saw the bedbugs responsible for them. While the room itself is very clean with fresh sheets, the bedbugs were uninvited guests for our stay.
Management response from HotelPaganelli

We were disconcerted in reading the comment suggesting the presence of bedbugs in our premises since, aware of how this reflects on the property image, everybody at the Paganelli was alerted and required to make periodical checks in this direction well before this review. Not satisfied by this, before writing this note we wanted to be 100% sure and we can finally certify that such “uninvited guests” are completely absent. Which means that the prevention work of members of the staff, specifically trained by experts in the field, was successful. Moreover, we wish to point out that nobody made reference to bedbugs bites while staying with us, including the author of the review; we would remember and we would have verified that with them such is the extra care this subject requires. That’s why, after all our efforts, we find the contribution of the reviewer is very unjust and we think mosquitos might have bitten them, certainly not bedbugs and that’s a completely different story as everybody should know.

Cozy hotel in great location
As confusing as the streets of Venice can be, seeing one's hotel from the vaporetto is a great feeling. The hotel is right behind the San Zaccaria vaporetto stop. It's just a short walk from San Marco, Harry's Bar, and countless restaurants and stores. The hotel has two buildings, and we were in the one around the corner where they serve breakfast. Breakfast is a good continental breakfast of meats, yogurt, cereal, fresh bread, fruit, boiled eggs, and great coffee. Just right to start your day until that lunchtime panini somewhere... more
Location, Location, Location
A nice and charming hotel located very close to St Marks Square. From this hotel all the must see parts of venice are within easy walking distance. The very close proximity to St Marks made it easy to enjoy the delights of Venice and pop in and out for rest stops and tourist combat naps. The hotel itself was clean and tidy, although some signs of age were evident - but not unexpected in a city like Venice. The staff were pleasant and tried hard to be helpful - although this was a little difficult at times due to limited english... more
Location is evertything
This is an excellent location. We went to venice w/ 4 luggages, and initially stayed at another hotel and had to drag our luggage a great distance. This hotel is right next to the water taxi stop so you don't have to bring your luggage far. Also, the San Marco area is one of the busier areas where all the action is at. The value of the hotel is great. We were expecting a dingy old place b/c we only paid 100 euros, but it had nice laminate floors, clean bathrooms, good linens, and good air condition. They also have a safe in the room,... more
LOVED The Paganelli
The Hotel Paganelli was great! Some rooms are normal size and some are small, but this is normal in Venice and here they are very very clean with nice bed linens, nice bath linens and amenities, etc. Breakfast was above average for Italy with a good variety of meats, cheeses, breads, cereals, yogurt, and fantastic cappucino's. The Signore Paganelli's are adorable if you get to know them. The hotel's chief concierge, Marco speaks wonderful English and is super knowledgable and helpful about Venice. And location, location, location. The... more
Convenient, moderately priced for Venice
This location is excellent, walk to everything, next to water that doesn't smell. Great air conditioning, flexible large rooms for families. Not the St. Regis, but very good value.
Great Location
The price is right for being Venice and it is located perfectly. My room was super clean and well keeped. I'm going back to Venice in a couple of months and returning. There are a few downers.. The hotel is made up of two buildings one is where the front desk and some rooms, and the other building is arround the corner where the breakfast room is. If you're staying where the breakfast room is and are returning a late be prepared to have to go to the other building advise that you want to go to your room and wait until the man at the... more
GREAT Spot!
we were here for the New Years and understood the high price for the great location! the water taxi spot is less than 20 feet from the front door and st.mark sq. is less than a 2 minute walk! can't beat the location! Its a family run business so the family was very friendly and enjoyed talking to them. Yah the decour is VERY 80's but we stayed for the location and nice staff. room was average and overlooked a nice square near st.zacharrie church. over all I'd recommend it.
Average in Venice
My wife and I just came home from a two week vacation in Italy. The last Hotel we stayed at was the Paganelli in Venice. This hotel was the most average hotel we stayed at during our entire trip and was the highest priced (170 Eu/night). Everything in Venice is expensive, especially the hotels, so we kind of expected this is how it might be, but we were hopefull. I would say that that the positives of the hotel are Firstly, the location. Right next to St. Mark's and the Doges Palace at the end of the Grand Canal. You can't beat the location... more
