Nice room, good value, extremely rude service
We stayed here for two nightsin May, on our honeymoon. The room was fine, quite large, nice big windows. We had an ensuite with shower - clean and spacious. The location was excellent - very close to the train station. Our only complaint was the guy at the front desk, who, as noted by another reviewer below, was "a total jerk". His attitude was terrible, he made it very clear that he thought we (and all guests) were a complete and utter annoyance to him. At one point, there was a lineup of five people waiting for their room... more
Good value in Venice!
We chose this place because it was the cheapest hotel (70 euro for a double) we could find that was actually in Venice (rather than Lido or Mestre). The room was quite nice, decent bed (but two singles stuck together typical of Italian hotels), basin and table, quite big. It had a window that opened out onto the main street - great for people watching but a bit noisy at night. The worst of the noise was over by about 11pm. The shared toilet was just down the hallway from out room and was clean and fine. My only real complaint was... more
Great room, great location, great heat
We lucked out finding this hotel. We were getting ready to call a hotel out of the guidebook and one of those hotel rep guys approached us in the train station. He promised a really good room for $70 Euro. we checked it out and checked in. The location could not be more convenient, close to the train station. We visited Italy over winter break and many of the hotel rooms were really not properly heated so uncomfortable that time of year. Hotel Minerva was very cozy.
a great budget accomodation
This hotel is located literally a minute away from the Santa Lucia train station, which means avoiding lugging your luggage all across town. For a triple I was pleasantly surprised to find 2 singles and queen size bed! The room was small and rather sparse, but it was clean, and that was all that really mattered to me. The bathroom was located close to the room, and was immaculate. My only complaint with the room was that it was rather loud at night, but given that we were on the main street, this wasn't surprising. For 78 euro, it was a... more
Would Never stay here again
I would never stay here again. My husband and I were on a budget trip to Italy. We are well-seasoned travellers with a high threshold for discomfort. All I ask in a hotel is cleanliness and politeness. I don't need frills. We stayed here b/c it was close to the train station and were were arriving very late, which wasn't a problem for the hotel. And it was fairly cheap. Yes, it was convenient to the train station. That's about all it had going for it. When you think of the hotel lobby decor, think 70's pimp-style faux riche. Lots of... more
Hotel Minerva- cheap but nice
My sister, mother and I opted for a bedroom with the bathroom in the hall so it would be cheaper. That part worked out fine and I would suggest that to lower the price. Our room was very spacious and even had 4 beds even though we only needed 3. It was extremely hot and they had no AC or celing fans. We were sweating most of the night and got a decent nights sleep the first night. They changed our room the next night and unfortunately moved us to a room above the main street and directly above the restaurant/bar below and hardly slept at all... more
Backpackers?!?
We found that this hotel was more like a backpackers hostel, with very noisy guests. We felt we had paid good money to stay there, but would have been better off staying in Lido where we could also relax. The room lacked even so much as air conditioning and a t.v. Very disappointed!!
Nice and clean hostel
We stayed there three nights (April 26-30, 2005). We opted for a double room without bath, half-board. * the hotel : ++ spacious room and very clean, so are the toilets and the shower. This was my main concern before arriving (hoping that the room was ok and clean). The hotel is very close to Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station (less than a 5 min-walk from Piazzale Roma, enjoyable when you want to get rid off your stuff to explore Venice). And it's cheap. As I booked in advance (end of January), we had a discount... more
Great for price and location
This place is the cheapest hotel in Venice that I have seen. We got an ensuite double room in October for 84euro a night. It is in an excellent location beside the train station, and all the staff speak english. On the negative side, the room we had was small and basic (though that didn't bother us). A bigger problem we had was the heating in our room. When we visited at the end of October the temperature in Venice was between 18 and 22 degrees Celsius, but the heating was constantly on throughout the hotel. We were told that it... more
Best deal in Venice!!!
This is an amazing deal. We paid less than 30 Euro each at the height of tourist season and got a gigantic room that was spotless. On the train ride to Venice I heard girls complaining about the mice in their pensione so I was quite scared, but ours was awesome. The staff is friendly and helpful and the hotel is a block down from the train station and the vaparetto, which is extremely convenient. I would highly recommend this place.
