Good deal...Friendly Staff..
The Hotel Mercurio is a great deal for the money. We stayed 2 nights last spring and found that the staff could not do enough for us. The breakfast was extremely good. The downside is that we had alot of trouble finding it when we first arrived. With heavy bags, it was difficult to navigate through the small, windy streets to the hotel. Even though it was a great deal, if we went again, I'd stay closer to the water. If you do decide to stay here, get specific directions when you get off the water taxi as it is very very confusing... more
Average Hotel
I had stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in Dec-04. The rates for the two nights were different: €70,00 for Thursday and €90,00 for Friday nights respectively. Positives: [1] Location - great location, 5 minutes' walking to the nearest boat Station (Veneretto), 10 minutes' walking to San Marco and 15 minutes' walking to Rialto. [2] Staff - very friendly and helpful staff who spoke perfect English. Negatives: [1] Room - the room size was ok but the decors and the facilities were rather old. [2] Shower - it might take some time... more
Hotel Mercurio - Venice
After a problem free three weeks in Italy we ended up in Venice anticipating no problems. After all, we had reserved a double room with a canal view at the Hotel Mercurio five months before. The Hotel had confirmed the reservation twice. However, when we arrived we had the "bait and switch" scam played on us. Oops, so sorry we don't have the room you requested. What they had was a take it or leave approach - the "take it" was a substandard room in the attic with falling plaster and non- functioning plumbing or a noisy room right beside... more
what a location
Great little hotel, some rooms look out over the canal, gondeolas passing under the windows, worth the extra charge great flavour of Venice, staff friendly rooms clean and comfortabel
Nice little hotel, great location...
This hotel is very quaint. The location is unbeatable, the breakfasts really good (we even got as many capuccinos as we wanted) , the staff very friendly. The only issue I had was that the room was a little worn (some plaster falling off walls) and the bathroom had mildew in the corners and a missing shower door (not really a problem ). Also - I had booked a "suite" - I didn't know that a suite is really a triple with a very uncomfortable cot added. If I had known that - I would have just booked a triple and paid the lower price!!
Great Hotel
Just back from a stay at the Mercurio will return found the hotel unbeatable in every way, the location was great 5/10 mins San Marco and 10 mins Rialto, the staff advised us on some wonderful restaurants, the breakfast was great, our room was perfect - view of the canal etc (Room 25) and the staff could not have been nicer - much better than what I expected and when you consider the cost - just a Great Hotel
Great location
This hotel is walking distance to St. Mark's Square, which is why I chose it. It was a short walk from the vaporetto stop. It was 1 flight up to the reception and another flight up to our rooms. I forgot that there are no elevators in Venice! But the hotel clerk carried our bags up for us and would not accept a tip. The rooms were nice, but the bathroom in one of our rooms was very small. You could hardly get into the shower and it leaked onto the floor even with the shower doors shut. Fortunately, there was a drain on the bathroom... more
Great little hotel!
Just returned from a 4 day trip to Venice and would highly recommend this hotel . Stayed in a double with canal view which was very spacious and spotless. Staff were friendly, breakfast was lovely and the location in unbeatable. Great value for money!
Perfect spot
The hotel is perfectly located a few minutes from the Piazza San Marco. We were allowed an early check in and got a nice double room. The room was small by north american standards but was fine for our two day stay. It was clean and had a small balcony. One morning however we had no hot water, and upon check out my girlfriend found she was missing her favorite skirt. We found 70 euros a night to be quite accomidating, with the buffet breakfast being quite adequate. The staff was also very helpful. A place we would probably return to.
Not disappointed
We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights in September 2004 based on the previous reviews and were very happy with it. Our room was on the top floor and did not have a view of the canals but it was very comfortable and clean. There is a lot of choice for breakfast (coffee, rolls, cheese spread, yoghurt, fruit, biscuits) and the staff are very pleasant and helpful. It is also easy to find from the Water Bus stop and is very convenient for St Marks Square and the Rialto Bridge area. We could even hear some singing being practised from the... more
