El Cid has great potential!
We were guests at El Cid from 5/23-5/27. We were excited to receive such a great deal at a new resort. We expected some kinks because the resort just opened, but we did experience more than expected! Property: This property will be beautiful one day, but it is not completed. The decor of what is done is beautiful and clean. There is much work to do on the landscaping, there are many dead trees in view, it's not a lush landscape like one might expect. There were workers every where, at all times, included one that was chipping away at... more
Optimistic Going;Neutral On Return
Let me first start this off by saying I truly believe the Marina El Cid has alot of potential. Myself, my wife, and child of 4 yrs old stayed at the El Cid from May 31st- June 6th. We were highly optimistic going to the El Cid since it was new, but after spending a week there we were mildly disappointed. The property lacks atmosphere in the worse possible way. All the landscaping is new and barely grown, so right now if you like a resort with plush plants and flowers along with beautiful palm trees, this isn't the resort for you (this... more
Well worth a try with considerations....
We just returned from a 4 night stay. I'd go back again which sums things up however based on your tolerance for certain things read on. The food in all the restaurants was very good. Don't discount the buffet we really enjoyed it for breakfast and lunch. The employees were terrific excluding the staff in the Mexican restaurant, they weren't as customer focused. The walls ARE THIN! We had the same problem with the LOUD music from about 11- 4 by the pool. I honestly thought there was an outside speaker in our room in building 16. I... more
relaxing vacation
Just returned from a quick 4 day vacation at El Cid. All in all, a very nice stay. Food was really good and always available, unlike some all-inclusives. (Alcazar was my favorite)The one thing to keep in mind is that the resort is still very new and therefore working out some kinks. We didn't get the room we were supposed to and couldn't change because there were no others available. What we realized later, after seeing that the pool and restaurants weren't crowded and there were construction workers around constantly, was all the rooms... more
A Small Quiet Fishing Village Is Wonderful Experience
Fantastic getaway for anyone wishing to stay away from the big commerialized areas of Mexico. Puerto Moreles had a two day local fishing tournament while we were there and the locals are so friendly. EL CID RESORT is in my opinion a 5 star place to stay. Marina attached to property allows you to take a deep sea fishing trip and the chef will prepare your food that night.... Kids love this place, food at all restaurants excellent, property very sanitary. You won't be disappointed.....
First visit to an El Cid resort
We've never stayed anywhere before that had this "time share" feature. We tried saying no to the appointment booker, but were promised a $50 certificate and a bottle of tequila so did make the appointment. We met with the salesman, did the tour (saw how nice some of the rooms were!) got into the bullpen for the hard sell and said no thanks and left. My husband used the $50 for a massage. We were put into Building 17 which had just been opened up for use and was across from the decimated, rotting mangrove. The smell managed to get... more
Think Twice Before Booking
We've just returned from "El Cid" for our Honeymoon. Here are some of the NEGATIVES about the Resort: 1. On our first day, we were told that our room was not ready and it should be done within 30-40min. So, my wife and I decided to have lunch. After 30min we returned. We were then told that it will be another 40-50min. Needless to say after the long flight(Red-eye), we were tired and just wanted to take a little nap. After waiting for another 10min, they finally gave us a different room. Before taking our nap, I arranged a wake... more
Wonderful!
My husband and I just returned from Marina El Cid. We had a wonderful, relaxing time. The junior suite we stayed in was huge! It had a living area with plasma tv, dining room, kitchen with granite countertops, two bathrooms and a huge bedroom! We also had two separate patios which opened up right onto the beach. One thing we love about the resort was the adult "quiet area" with no children under 18 allowed. It was so relaxing! They did have a children's area and beautiful pool. The food was excellent, especially in the speciality... more
El Cid-All Inclusive
My family went to El Cid for three nights, four days in May, 2006. I agree, when we came in the hotel and approached the front desk, we were given the welcome drinks. Check-in took a bit, and we were wisked away by the El Cid reps who told us when and where to eat, etc. Then the timeshare talk...we listened for a bit, and graciously told the rep that we were there only a short time, and wanted to begin our vacation. I truly believe from that time on, we were treated differently. We have no qualms with the rooms. As stated in... more
The Good and The Bad
My boyfriend and I (both professional, mid-40's) just returned from a 4-night stay at the Marina El Cid, with an all-inclusive package. We have stayed at many all-inclusive resorts throughout the Caribbean and Mexico and, based on our experiences, we do not consider this hotel to be even close to a 5-star--but it is a respectable 3-star. There are some very good things about this property and some very bad as well. Here's the rundown: PROPERTY APPEARANCE: The hotel is new and quite pretty, inside and out. Its structure is based... more
