Hotel Ideal

There are some better hotels, but they are more expensive. Hotel Ideal meets the needs of the lower budget perfectly. It is clean and comfortable with a good breakfast (excellent coffee) and ... what else do you need? It astonishes me that some reviewers require Neopolitans to speak good English simply because Naples is a tourist destination. Do tourist hotel staff in London or New York speak good Japanese? Hotel Ideal was in a good location being across the road from the train station and bus stop to the airport. The piazza Garibaldi was dirty and noisey. Staff were helpful and friendly. Hotel does not look like a three star. Overall you get what you pay for.

Please read this review and others about this hotel. This is the WORST hotel we have ever experienced. It is in a dirty, smelly part of town. We arrived and they gave us our room. We have a young baby, they did not have a baby cot as we requested, they tried to charge us an additional 15 Euro for a bed that was unsuitable for our baby. It was so hot and noisey. We booked this hotel via an internet provider (lasminute web site) and although we rang the hotel to confirm our reservation a few days before arrival, on check-in, the hotel clerk said they didn't have a reservation for us. We even spoke Italian!! They waded through a lot of paperwork and kept saying there was nothing reserved under our names. I would not recommend anyone going to Naples stay at Hotel Ideal. It is in the worse part of Naples. My husband and I are not happy with Lowest fare. They did not have a rating on that hotel. We relied on them to recommend a safe and desent hotel for us,seeing we have never been to Naples before this trip in April. My fiancee and I stayed here in December 2003. We booked through orbitz and then followed up with the hotel directly to confirm our room and rate. The hotel staff speak minimal English (not good for a tourist hotel).The hotel had our reservation when we arrived and we actually stayed in the Hotel Ideal, unlike other people. I can only reiterate what others have said already. We too booked a room one month in advance at the Hotel Ideal and arrived to be told there were no rooms available.We were taken to a 2 star hotel, Hotel Gallo round the corner where we were given a horrible room with plaster peeling off the walls. Despite our complaints to both hotels we were informed there were no other rooms. If at all possible find somewhere else. Firstly this hotel is in a terrible part of Naples, it is in a square near the train station which is incredibly dirty, there are loads of dodgy looking characters and really no saving feature bar the proximity to the train station. Be very very careful booking here - despite confirmation, they denied any knowledge of our booking (through an internet travel company) when we arrived and couldn't give us our room. The 'helpful' man on the desk was momentarily put back when he realised one of our party spoke fluent italian, but then was quite happy to have a porter show us to their sister hotel which he cheerfully informed us was a little smaller but still a 3-star hotel. Hotel Ideal is ideally located near the central train/bus station in Naples. That's about the only positive thing about it. The rooms are tiny. The mattress was nonexistent, the springs in the bed were jabbing our backs. Well, I must say that the staff was quite friendly. Nevertheless, skip it and find a nice hotel on the Amalfi Coast.
