Great room and location
We stayed one night at the Galleria in room 10. The room was huge, with a great view and a really nice painted ceiling. We love being by the Accademia Bridge...it's a great location. The in-room breakfast was simple but delicious and delivered right when they said they would. There is no TV in the room so it can get really quiet if the windows are closed. We liked opening up the windows and listening to the Grand Canal 'traffic' go by. Would stay there again for sure!
Great location
We just returned from a trip to Italy and spent three nights at the Galleria in Venice. I would have to agree that the rooms are small but if you reserve ahead you can get one of the two larger rooms with great rooms. We had one of the larger rooms, I think the number was 10. We had our son with us and we all loved being on the Grand Canal. The view was fabulous. I am a light sleeper and did not find the location too noisy. The breakfasts were great and as we had just arrived in Europeso we enjoyed having the breakfast brought to our... more
great location
We just returned from a short March visit to Europe which included a 2-night stay at the Hotel Galleria in Dorsoduro just a few steps away from the Accademia Bridge, the Museum, and the vaporetto stop. We first discovered it in spring 2000 when we fell in love with the full canal view, the large room (#10) for three adults and great breakfast (delivered with silver service) of coffee/tea/hot chocolate (the latter is really GREAT tasting!), croissant, bread, jam, butter, nutella, cheese. All this remains the same, but this visit we took 2... more
A room with a view
Our family spent three nights at the Hotel Galleria November 24-27, 2004, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Located at Dorsoduro 878/a, the hotel is part of a 17th century palazzo overlooking the Grand Canal next to the Accademia bridge. The hotel has 10 small rooms ranging in price from $145/night for a double room, to $245/night for a triple room. We had room No. 8 which is one of the larger rooms and furnished with victorian pieces. While small even by European standards, the rooms were clean, and the bathrooms featured a shower and... more
Bellisimo!!!
We just returned from a splendid New Years soujourn in Venice--and the Hotel Galleria was definitely the icing on the cake. We stayed in Room seven, which is a smaller room right on the canal. Amazing! Wonderful shower, impeccible maid service and incomparable ambiance. Had I the option (and the wherewithal) to stay a few doors down at the Gritti, I'd still choose this charming, tiny home-away-from-home in quieter, less-touristy Dorsoduro.
Nice location, but I had odor issues in the rooms
This hotel was conveniently located near a vaporetto and the Accademia museum. The first night the hotel graciously provided me with a nice double room for the price of a single and on my second night I was moved to a tiny single. I liked the way the hotel was nicely decorated. Unfortunately, there was an odor in both rooms. I am not sure where it was from because when I was traveling on the Grand Canal, I did not notice any smells. Thankfully, I had some incense to use. The hotel staff was very nice and the breakfast was nice... more
only thing good is location
Great location but not good hotel. Had room #8. Larger room with view. (We liked view but that was it) Toilet lid does not stay up while going to bathroom. This means one hand is holding lid up while going. Because of huge foundation problem with building, bathroom door doesn't close completely, stay open about 2 in. Shower barley has water pressure, and it's mostly cold water coming out. Building is so old, I was hoping is wasn't going to collapse. Horrible foundation.
Small, but affordable and on the Grand Canal
The fact that you are staying in Venice with a view opening onto the Grand Canal or Academia bridge and are not being charged a mint is reason enough to stay here. Accomodations were quite small but clean with all necessary amenities. The staff was very congenial and helpful in suggesting good local dining and how to navigate through the streets. Excellent for the novice traveller who wants the Venetian experience.
Am I Missing Something?
I read the reviews and thought this hotel would be a great place to stay. I will agree that the location is very convenient. However, even with European standards, my single room was unacceptably small, given the price. There was 2 feet between my twin bed that was against one wall and the other wall. And it wasn't much longer than that either. I had to keep my shutters closed at night to TRY to shut out the noise from the Canal, and consequently had no breeze to make up for the lack of A/C. They also somehow overlooked serving breakfast to... more
Great location. Helpful staff. Excellent rates.
My wife and I stayed at the Hotel for 2 nights in June. I would agree with all the good remarks related by others and would definitely stay again. Breakfast was great; staff and owners helpful. Great location and rates.
